First Game

i'd build a city on the hill 3SE from Medina ... its plain hill so you'll get two hammers in the town, it got fresh water (+2health if i remember right) and as far as i can see it's on the coast so you can build lighthouse and other coastspecific buildings ... might not have any spectacular bonus reasouces (though there is a chance of some in those spots you still have to explore around of the city) but it'll block Cyrus off and do for a very decent town

Hmm.. Do you mean 4S2W?

@Nash: Do you have an escort for the settler?

yeah ... 4S2W from Mecca ... but notice something ... i said 3SE from Medina ... thats the other town ;)

Ooh, me..dimeccana?

It's good if you can block Cyrus but it's more important that your city has a source of food or it will be a total drain on your economy.

And pass up the clams that could be his if he moved 1S? Don't want to skip out on clams, food = good city. :p

i'd use the clams for a city 2W of them :)

I'm thinking i should go 3SE1S from Medina like Joshua said. So i also get the clams

get one of your warriors down there an explore so we know whats in those few still to be explored areas ... then its easier to tell

Spoiler :
I played your game to around 850BC by now. i settled my 3rd city at 4S2W to Medina, to take advantege of the pig to the east of the city site. Also, Julius settle his 2nd city at 1S2W of the gold. I'm planning an attack on him using Chariots if possible. Pretty worried about his Prats, too powerful to counter once he got iron connected.

EDIT: However after discovering the iron, i had to say, 4S3W might be a better choice.

Blocking Cyrus isn't worth a crappy city. Remember that whatever the AI builds, it's building it for you to conquer it. ;)

I'd look to the west, since there's a nice site there with floodplanis galore and a gold hill.

It will make him a little harder to conquer though, which is bad. If you can avoid making things to hard/complicated for yourself you should. Even though it might mean a bit extra maintenance right now.

I'm still thinking i should go 3SE1S, to cut cyrus off and also for the clams. And the next city more to the west.

Hello CivFanatics, first post here, another noob!!

Nash, very cool you have blogged your first game here. I've played 4 games at noble and have only managed 1 "time" victory so far, I look forward to gleaning some tips from this thread, thanks!

interesting, I downloaded your map [another first for me] and I've played till about 1200AD. Completely unexpected was a very different rival scenario emerged compared to your game.

Anyway, sorry to cut in on your thread, I don't profess to have good advice to give, just wanted to let you know I'm playing along!

Nice to hear :D

I havent got much time playing further cause i am really busy atm.

The Horror, The Horror ...

Well I played this out all day yesterday, to the conclusion of an ignominious retirement at 1918. I managed to be first to circumnavigate, but I missed being first for Liberalism by one measly turn! After that I was only 2nd best in the points and the leading rival decided to invade. I think I "annoyed" him by not accepting "open borders" early on. I did manage to take him down with me, that is the only consolation. Perhaps I will go back to an early "save" and attempt a better result, I haven't tried this yet in Civ.

Look forward to seeing how you play this out.
