First time ever..i am a mega noob

Hi all,

I have never played Civilization. Ever! I bought it and i like it...but...

I dont understand the game. I did the tutorial, but that hasnt helped enough. So i got only two questions, with, perhaps, not so simple answers.

1. What is/are the best People to start off with.
2. Is there some kind of 'recipe' on how to create a prosporous cicilization in the beginning. I start off, build a worker, but in no time i am being surpassed by other civs, and the time flies without any decent advancement. I need some help with this.

As far as the best civ goes, it all depends on your playing style and personal preference. Leaders with the aggresive trait are for the warmongers while philisophical and finacial helps the peaceful players.

As far as building a worker goes, I like to build warriors first and wait until my city is a size 3 or so before I build a worker.

I think youre best bet is building a warrior and exploring with your start military unit. youre city cant grow when you are building workers. wait till size 2 for workers and 3 for settlers

Do NOT follow the Civ III model of building as many Settlers as possible as soon as possible. Build a Worker, improve your tiles, build Scouts and troops, and then, when your city is stable, build one or two (no more!) Settlers and send them out to do the same thing a short distance away (remember, distance from the capital is not as important in Civ IV as it was in Civ III - choose a site based on its resources, not a set distance from the capital)

Grab those resources!

I love financial industrial it gives you the option to build peacefully and still put together a good sledge hammer for a war of opportunity. I am not agressive but I will not hesitate to become so if the opportunity appears to be in my favor. My favorite nations are France/Nap China/Que Russia/Cat
I have played other nations successfully but I favor these three.
