Football fans, since when are you a supporter of "your" club and why?

I have, and still do support 2 clubs. Bradford City FC, (the place of my birth) and Leeds Utd (where I used to live as a child back in their Halcyon days). As you know, both clubs are doing very well and will no doubt be meeting in the final of the Champions League next season. :D

Anyway I support the mighty Colchester United  as they were the local team where I was brought up

I can remember the misery of finishing bottom of the English football league in 1990 and the elation 2 years later with the FA Trophy win against Witton Albion in 1992 at Wembley, they did the non-league double (Conference title also)

Now a FL 2nd Division team which always starts the season as relegation favourites.

Hey, Col U are no longer in the 2nd Division - they're in League One! And top of it no less....

My last visit to the hell hole which was Wembley was to watch Col U thrash Torquay 1-0 to get promoted to the then Division 2. Ah, those heady days as we marched through a series of managers all of whom started with W - Wiggy, Waddy, Whitts...

I'm a Liverpool fan. My brother used to be a Liverpool fan, my dad then bribed him to become a Burnley supporter. He then, as a gift, gave me all his Liverpool stuff (a gift at 3 weeks pocket money, according to him). I was 6 and have supported them ever since, 11 years now.

I was a Parma fan since the early 90's when they made the astonishing progress from the third division to the top. Zola and Ortega were my favourite players.

They could have won it in 1994 but didn't. Therefore I hate Juventus and Del Piero (his first season). I had so much passion back then. I wasn't young at all but I cried out loud for an hour because I missed the weekly newspaper reporting the results.

For some reasons they became a sellout and don't have any good players any more. And since I moved to NZ I hardly see any football let alone Italian football. Haven't checked how they are doing for ages now.

They are still in Serie A but they had a financial crisis a while ago after Parmalat had a load of financial irregularities...

Most of you are suporters of a football club. Here you can tell "your" club.
Mine is the Portuguese club Benfica, 30 times champions, 24 times winner of the Portuguese cup, 3 times winner of the Portuguese Supercup and 2 times winner of the Champions League. And yours?

I support Werder Bremen, 4 times Bundesliga champions, 5 times German Cup winner, 1 time winner of the European Cup Winner's Cup. Werder are also the current German champions and cup winners.

Well, I must confess I'm not a real club supporter. My boyfriend and my brother are total fans of Paris Saint Germain. They go to the games, they are completely crazy about it actually...

If I don't share their optimism, it's simply because I find all that way too violent and well... mannish. I've followen once my boyfriend in Auteuil at the Parc des Princes... and well, people are all freaks there. I didn't feel comfortable at all, especially when we've been out of the stadium. Actually, I don't want to do it again because of that.

Anyway, when on TV they are giving the results of the championship, I'm glad when Paris wins... but I'm not a fan as I'm actually scared of fans.

i was born in Lisbon, and i have a benfica jersey hanging in my closet.... but benfica has been horrible the last 10 years... i like to see good football... but benfica hasn't played good football for a long time

so the last couple of years i have cheered for Valencia, because they play like a team and have very good players... sorry

Well it was quite intimidating... especially the behaviour between Marseille and Paris fans. They seemed to genuinely hate each other. I've found that rather ridiculous and I was scared to receive a bottle in glass on the head.

Anyway, I've been warned it was especially "heated" between both clubs... but I really don't want to do it again.

It's like in Portugual there are the "Three Bigs" Benfica, FC Porto and Sporting. Well Benfica hates Sporting and Porto, Porto hates Benfica and Sporting and Sporting hates Porto and Benfica.

Everton FC, which are the smaller, less sucessful neighbours of Liverpool FC. We have though won the FA cup around 5 times, the leauge about 9 times and the old European Cup Winners Cup once :)

Oh and we've spent 50 consequtive years in the top flight of English football, which is more than you can say for Manchester United or Liverpool :D

Charlton Athletic: 1 time FA Cup winner and The London Cup winner (setup for the duration of world war 2) the 1998 Division play-off winners and 1990 Division one champions and the only team to be in both FA Cup finals were the ball has burst
