For Phil, Evana, and Other Interested Players: Try this Game! ^_^

Catapult rush build, you're in a strong position to take out a neighbor. Don't have to cheat the AI through diplomacy, done by good old fashioned micromanagement.

Spoiler :

Almost all the forests have been prechopped. We can have 6 catapults in 3 turns, probably ready for war in less than 10 turns.

The trick with catapult rushes is to have a lot of beakers at your second city. Riverside plains cottages are underrated.

I have a catapult rush guide somewhere.

Screenshots of my current position:
Spoiler :

Yes, I settled the fifth and sixth cities...:lol:

The plan from here should be pretty obvious. Lib Steel (I wanted Rifling but Ragnar is about to tech Edu), set up the globe in the seafood city and then go to war.

I have a defensive pact with Rag. Genghis beat the bejeezus out of Napoleon and nearly wiped him out completely but Nappy escaped across the sea and settled one city on the isthmus which is still alive. Genghis took the others. However, Alex in turn pummelled Genghis and took a bunch of his cities then peacevassaled Nappy.

Meanwhile Toku is slapping Shaka around. :lol: I'm enjoying the spectacle but I may need to bribe Toku to peace as Shaka capitulating would be a serious pain in the fundament.

It's interesting to see all the very different strategies people are proposing for the map.

^_^

Pretty interesting stuff so far. But Phil and Evana haven't played yet. ^_^

@Mylene:
Spoiler :
I could have, of course, taken out all the resources except for maybe the cow and the clams, and taken out all nearby iron.... that would have been really hateful, but I decided not to do that. Dealing with crap junk cities is enough of a pain anyway, and Shaka and Ragnar being so close is another annoyance too. But yeah, if I took out all those resources from the capital, it would have been very very interesting. ^_^

Oh wait... I thought you had to go to work ahcos! You lied to me, didn't you? ^_^

@Nihilzero,

Spoiler :
Very nice attempt... I would never be able to stomach such crap cities just to get my city count to 6....

@ Gwaja
Spoiler :
Yeah, they are pretty depressing but they already both have theatres so I'll be able to get the globe and draft like crazy. I have fond hopes that they will one day have universities too, and then I can build Oxford...but by the time that happens I might already have conquered some better cities if things go well for me.

@Gwaja: err... i did go to work. And it was awful because i stayed up too long :D

@NihilZero,

Spoiler :
Wow nice work with the Globe Theatre... will you be just drafting? I wonder how whip AND draft works out on a globe city... I think Washington or the double seafood city has good enough food output to make it happen.

@ahcos,

You said you were gonna leave like 3-4 hours prior to actually leaving.... ^_^ Anyhow, sleep is overrated!

Special rule just for my honorary friend that this game is dedicated to:

You are forbidden to do Culture or Diplomatic Victory in this game! ^_^

Culture is a valid VC. I will not accept a ban on it unless you ban it from the AI, also.

So, how well did the globe city work out for me?
Spoiler :

Rather well. Shaka has left the building. :woohoo:

Not sure who to go for next. The Mongols hate me but are huge and have rifles and are kicking Alex's ass at the moment. Toku hates me too and is backwards (when is he not?). I'd better hit Toku then. The damned AP will have a thing or two to say about it, unfortunately.

Seriously fun map. The warring has been quite something to behold, in endless permutations of who is fighting who this year. :lol:

The condition imposed upon you is due to your special uber skillzzzz in Civ 4. Surely you could handle it, right? ^_^ Of course you can! This should be all piece of cake for you!

Just for funzies...

Spoiler :

I warrior rushed ragnar and killed him ^_^. I lost because shaka chose me over worst enemy GK that declared on him already (he was annoyed with GK). What's comical is that if I hadn't been daggered, I'd have actually pulled a warrior rush on the highest unitprob AI on immortal/normal with a stock civ and taken a winning position from it. Things I had around 500 BC when shaka declared:

- 2 gems site
- 5 cities with horse resource and 2 nearby barb cities easy to take
- Holy city (nidaros!)
- room for 2-3 cities settled on top of the barb ones

The warriors are a serious econ drain. To beat 4 archers you need like 20+ warriors (less if aggressive). The only reason this worked is that I worker stole ragnar + pillaged him to slow him down alot (and denied him strat resources!).

If one were to play this map properly, it wouldn't be that bad and there are 2 relatively easy options to get out of the earlygame with a lot of cities:

1. Vicawoo's catapult rush
2. Sword rush

In the latter case, one would repeat the steps I took to deny the target metal, but then use the far more cost-effective and versatile metal units instead. Swords have very good odds vs archers in cities and while ragnar's melee would be stout his archers are nothing special.

This map is hard and you can definitely get screwed if the AI DoW you at inopportune time, but using alpha beeline to bribe the idiots against each other and backstab would take care of that just fine. Once you get past the earlygame phase or rushing someone out and creating AI-AI havoc (not exactly hard to do with a gold start), this map isn't particularly hard.

Unless you warrior rush.

Nice analysis, TMIT.

I need to come up with a more painful and hateful map that is not on Deity.

EDIT: Wait a minute... why are you using my smiley? ^_^ Surely I have not seen you use that before!

TMIT, you did what!? :lol:

Kudos for trying something so unorthodox, but you can never be surprised when you-know-who does what he does best.

I will soon be making a Part Deux... I am offended by the statement claiming that my maps are easy. Soon, my dear friends will be pulling their hairs out in frustration. ^_^

I am so evil.

"Evana"....oh lawd...who is this character? Emily, what are you doing to me?

I just realized that I wasn't attentive enough to fix my default name in the game. GAH!

I like Evana... such a nice name. Come on, I gave you a compliment! ^_^ Now show me your uber skillzzzz please!

lol :D
well well well...the "problem" here is just that the capital is too good, you can get the Oracle too fast and gain the power to bribe the warmongers onto each other.
Then you can trade for IW and backstab as you like, it's the commerce tiles (even marble is 2g) that make this easy. I also found the surrounding land not that bad, you can settle the river/sheep, a 2 seafood/fur, that's not bad! Try harder! :lol:

I almost did that once when I posted for the first time on the forum. From then on, I just set the name permanantly to GGracchus

I think I am gonna do that right now. ^_^

lol :D

Ah... well then... next time it will be lots of non riverside tundras for you with no awesome resources! ^_^

On the positive side, if the 1st attempt is too hard, it doesn't get any interesting at all... it is all about the anticipation, the build up!! That's right... my evil meter is filling up nicely! ^_^ Soon, you will feel more pain! LOL~!

Evana is apparently my female alter-ego :rolleyes:

Gwaja - Emily is a very pretty name, by the way (and to think I thought your name was Shirley :) ). Evana...ugh...not so great for a dude. Feel free to excise the second "a". Of course, "lymond" is more than sufficient.
