forum down this morning?

Tried it this morning around 9 CET (8 GMT), couldn't reach the site.

This morning, maybe around 7-8 Nova Scotia time, it kept saying the connection was reset. Then I went to school. And I'm back and its up.

And once again. This time for a looooong time too. From 5:51 PM until between 1:21-1:23 AM, AEDT. As Ric Flair would ask; "What's causin' all this?"

yup, basically all day....

The site is slow currently as well.
I was having that problem when I was on earlier too, which is why I chucked a hissyfit and watched wrestling for two hours.

So Padma, this was a different problem to whatever's been happening previously? So now we have even more troubles? Ai, Chihuahua.

Looks like the problem this time was some bad RAM in the server.
I wonder why we cant develop a redundancy system for RAM.

Why is this happening so frequently? The site has been down for significant periods of time on 4 seperate occasions that I've counted during the last 6 weeks or so. Surely the server can be maintained better than this?! An average of more than 2 down-days per month is more than a bit ridiculous...

Well, just now the forums just hit a slowness snag.

Sorry about the downtime, guys. :( I know it's annoying.

I talked to our host AtomicGamer and the good news is we do plan to get a server upgrade in the near future, likely before the end of the month.

Some RAM does have a redundancy system. The old IBM systems (the real IBM ones, not the clones) had 9 bits of ram for every byte, with parity. You could lose an entire chip and it would keep on chugging in non-parity mode. Really big servers still use similar systems.

So in essence the entire RAM chip has gone bad, even the redundancy parts?
