Fox-04 -- The Prime Directive

did you have problems playing GotM 8 or something ruff?
gotm 8 is my candidate for the biggest smoke job ever ... read about it at my web site (game reports).

OK, I've 'got it' but I need some thoughts on where we go from here.

We're currently on '100 turns left'. We are running 30% luxury and we still have some planets unhappy. My quick count of the Space option shows that we would need 98 turns at 100% research to get all the techs never mind about building the required parts. We could build the UN reasonably soon but we would be against the dominion and far more civs seem to either like them or else dislike them less than the UFP. :( The dominion is fairly well advanced on Space techs so I think going for time is probably not feasible.

Which leaves Culture or Domination. As Culture's a non starter that leaves Domination which is... challenging. ;) We need to reduce to one front. As the cardassians won't even talk that means the Klingons. The only question is when i.e. take Novogorod and take a breather or go for peace now?

Thoughts and suggestions welcome. :) :)

EDIT: Brain's working slow tonight. It just occurred to me that Ruff's prologue may be a not too subtle hint of how the game will go. :( Perhaps I'm too gloomy..... I'll wait for comments on the way ahead so I won't be playing before tomorrow.

There is no way that we can be eliminated so don't worry about my "you have been defeated" stuff.

I vote for taking the current two cities of peters near moscow (and maybe the one with the ex-barb pyramid city) then sign peace deal. He did actually offer peace during my turn set and was going to throw in a city too!

It was more the 'xxxx has won a ????? victory' message I was thinking of. :D :D

If you mean SGOTM 2 and Work... maybe a little free time inbetween... Yes.... Captured by the Romulans....

I would suggest not taking that city... Usually cities gifted by the AI are worthless peaces of **** not worth the replicator rations...

Feel free to grab the game when you are free .... ;)

For those true trekkie, you would undoubtedly notice the basis why I placed a "Risa? Captured by Romulans?" besides our chief engineer namliaM's name, as you would obviously recall, in a particular episode, Geordi was heading towards Risa for a convention when he was captured by the Romulans en-route. They then implanted some receiver into his visor to control his mind ...

I agree with taking out the cities near mosow and get peace ... I think we can let the southmost city remains Klingons for now.

The cardasians need to be kicked in their ass for attacking our ally Monty ... there goes our plans of diplomatic I think, unless we can grow to 62% world galatic population

That leaves only domination, and so domination it is.

I make a start on clearing our space of Cardassian vessels by destroying a Galor class ship. Regrettably we also lose one of our Akira class vessels in the process. A further encounter with one of the Galor vessels is more expensive resulting in the loss of a Nebula class ship and an Akira class vessel as well as severe damage to another Akira vessel.

The Ferengi request our assistance against the Romulans.

FerengiOffer.jpg

Although tempted I decline their request.

The campaign against Novogorod is successful with minimal casualties. The latest census shows that the UFP population is expanding well.

UFPPop.jpg

A sub space message from the Dominion is intecepted indicating they are attempting to build a vessel capable of travelling between galaxies.

The Romulans approach us with an absurd offer which is promptly rejected.

RomulanOffer.jpg

Despite considerable cultural pressure from DS9, Bryansk is still holding out. I decide that this planet has been a thorn in our side for long enough and order it to be sacked.

BryanskCapture.jpg

Two further Galor ships are destroyed for the loss of an Akira class ship. For the time being it looks as though our space is clear of Cardassian ships.

After a delay to repair the assault ships used against Novogorod we successfully take Yaroslavi.

YaroslaviCapture.jpg

So far the Klingon empire has made no attempts to sue for peace. However I feel that we are now in a position to suspend hostilities against the Klingons and take the war against the Cardassians more vigourously.

Epsilon has started work on a new facility which should help replenish our finances. We have completed research into the Radio technology. I have selected Rocketry as a suitable technology to research next. However I have suspended research due to lack of funds so we have not yet started work on it.

Further sub space messages from the Dominion have been intercepted showng that they are making progress on their trans-galactic ship. The Daystrom Institute assures me that the Dominion requires far more work before it will be ready. Intelligence reports indicate that the Dominion are also quite powerful.

I am up from what I can tell but won't be able to do anything until tomorrow evening Eastern Daylight saving time.

Great job, Sam! The Klingons swould now know better to backstab us again.

Now, I have looke dat the save. We are at 17% land. Domination is IMPOSSIBLE.

We are at 20% pop. Diplomatic is IMPOSSIBLE.

We are like 300 points behind Liz. Time Victory is POSSIBLE.

We are behind in Rocketry, Computer, Fission, Plastics. Space is POSSIBLE.

I think our best course is still to run for space, and hope to overtake Liz in score. For that I would suggest we make peace with everyone (don't take that crappy city Tver ... I suspect its that north-pole city NE of Moscow), pay that 50g to Cardassians, switch all non-essential cities to research or wealth, and make a run for it.

We would most likely not make it before 80 turns is up. I was hoping to settle for a score victory, and if we are very very lucky, perhaps we will beat the Dominion in intrgalatic spaceship.

Build nothing but nukes from here on out. On the last turn, nuke every city in the game six times and win time by a landslide.

I'm with Rex. So this is how it happens.

The Borg infiltrate Starfleet and turn all officers into drones. The Queen orders the drones to nuke the entire galaxy system. (only problem is that Dominion will probably get SDI and shelters). But I haven't used nukes much in Civ 4 mainly because they become useless so quick with the SDI being built by most opposing civs. But I do love the pretty mushroom cloud.

It seems we are out of options captain but I will do as you specify but if you have a change of heart I won't be starting until tomorrow sometime.

Ok I don’t really have time to do the Star Trek thing so I just played my turn to keep things moving.

This going to be tough to beat but if we are quick with space parts we might although the other AI's are already building parts. Apollo will be due in 14 turns. Libyan is set to research right now so might want to change that when we finish Apollo for SS casing. Our point spread with Liz is about 200 points even after a couple of cities came out of revolt. Moscow will grow quite a bit now with sea resources and deep space nine should work the clams once the workboat is done.

Perhaps it's worth building the Internet wonder to try and catch up on techs? It's probably worth while setting a lot of our planets to wealth so that we can research faster. I think it may well also be worth suspending research for a turn or two so that we can run at 100%.

Hoshi? OMG. T'Pol beats her anyday .... maybe because I am asian, so I am used to far better asian beauty than Hoshi. I fact I think Kekko O'Brien looks better than Hoshi ;)

Anyway, good to hear from you again, paul! Saw you at DM, but didn't really give you a proper greeting overthere.

ok - got it, will play and post tonight. I better read back and see what our objective is.

Ruff we are trying for Space victory or time. Apollo is being built in Earth and due in 14 turns. Libyan is set to research but has good production for space parts when Apollo is done. Lizzy is miles ahead of us though and has already built thrusters. Some cities can grow like DSN and Moscow. We are like 200 points away from Lizzy in second place.

Well, concentrated on growing some cities. Swapped some workshops to farms in the small hammer cities. We might think of back filling some techs (they will help our score position too) but I don't actually see us catching Lizzie in score or keeping them from space ...

The GP Scientist is on his way to Libyan (best science city with no academy @ 86bpt) or he will give us 2100 beakers to computers. 86 beakers times 50% times 49 turns = 2100. Prob best to lightbulb computers so we can start on the labs 2 turns earlier.
