In the trail of one W...... R.... (Name dubbed for privacy reasons) The high council of the federation finds that eventhough he is found guilty of a blatend violacion of the prime directive his exemplary record over the past will way in heavily. The verdict thus will be that he will get a formal reprimande, a degradation in Rank and a suspension of duties for the remainder of the year (turnset?).

Uppon his return to active duty, he may be reinstated to his former rank.

Editorial: As we all know a second formal repremande on your record will mean dishonorable resignation.

Yet, he should gain 7,000,000 points for referencing the 80s 'hit' movie "Short Circuit"

Ok to the nerds who want to make the universe better. I like Star Trek, but have absolute passion when it comes to Star Wars. Star Trek just got way too political and cerebal. I like Schmart but not crazy about politics.

So just wondering amongst all the posters. What drives you more
A. Star Wars B. Star Trek

Star Wars revived Hollywood in the 70's when it was in a slump. Star Trek didn't even scratch the surface in that regard. The first movie was good but could have been better. I mean VGer turns into that. mmmmmm

Best Star Trek movie "Wrath of Khan". Most of the odd numbers were mediocre and some were really bad especially no 5. (Shatner directed that one egomaniac although I do like him)

Star First Contact was great the rest was mmmmmm. Resurrection/Nemesis should have been in the series as they both felt like a tv series rather than a motion picture. Generations was bad (plain and simple) and first time I saw that in Florida I was so wanting to fill my need for Star Trek so I didn't know what to think.

With Star Wars all the movies I really like but was heeha hum on Phantom Menace. The rest satisfied me plenty especially episode 4, Last Hope, Empire strike backs, Return of the Jedi was good but I didn't like the Ewoks. What a crock a bunch of Teddy bears up against an elite force. The Emperor's best loose to Teddy Bears. ACCHHH that left a foul taste in my mouth.

Clone Wars is good but Revenge of the Sith once again reached my passion. Although I wanted to see a lot of more "Vader" and less of "Anakin" and found the transformation (acceptance of the Sith) weak it still drove me. I like that Lucas put forth "True Evil" in Vader when he wiped out the Jedi even the young ones. That's what a true Evil Lord would do. I hate Hollywood for sweetening up stuff and too many happy endings. This is off topic but one of my favourite examples of Hollywood can't face reality is this:

"The Vanishing" (Orignally filmed in Dutch and remade in the US with Kiefer Sutherland) Just look at the ending of each and you know Hollywood is living in a dreamland. That's what I liked about the Dutch one it was realistic.

So just curious what drives your passion more 1. Star Trek 2. Star Wars....

My take on Revenge of the Sith ...

Emperor: Anakin, join me on the dark path.
Anakin: Oh ok.

They could have done better with someone and a hand puppet.

Yeah no kidding Ruff_Hi......Argh what a weak moment. Couldn't there have been a vicious battle first between the two whilst Anakin fought between the good and dark side with in him. I mean come on he's a Jedi for years but take three seconds to become a Sith. It should have been a struggle until he almost kills the Emperor (not really Emperor manipulating) and then the darkside kicks in. Yes Anakin do you feel the rage. Can you feel it surge within you. You do want to kill me don't you. Then he turns as his rage makes him fold not some silly notion about Frankenfrying his wife. I didn't like that angle. If one understands passion it can be manipulated and honed into a darkness by motivating the rage. I understand this very well. Anakin was young and couldn't control his feelings like a practiced older person can do. It takes years to control rage/anger and use it for what it's good for "Passion". I know the idea sounds like the Luke battle but one small difference. Luke didn't have it in him but Anakin did since he killed off the Sand warriors including the women and child. And therein is the dark side of Anakin but at conflict with the good. The story about the wife helped finish the story and his love for her would be a motivator but still he was ripe for the Sith even without that. Perhaps the Midichlorians were experimenting in seeing how darkness can lead to light. Meaning in the end Anakin was the Chosen One. That had a nice twist which I enjoyed.

On the subject of Star Wars and Revenge of the Sith, I too thought that the turn of Anakin was handled bad... I never got the feeling that he was turned to the dark side by what we saw in the movie, just that he was desprate to save Padme. I think that what we should have seen was what happened after he killed her... that's what would have brought out the dark side in him.

Maquis,

Anakin didn't really kill her. He thinks that he did as manipulated by the Emperor. But she really died in labour. In a metaphorical sense he did kill her as his transformation to the darkside destroyed Padme. The Emperor was the mitigating factor in turning him since he was all that Anakin could trust. He no longer trusted the Jedi because of their duplicity. They in a sense caused his fall too. They drove him their but the transformation should have been played out much more and a viscious duel between the Emperor and Anakin after Windu was killed. Something like:
Anakin: what have you made me do, Old man. Emperor laughing (as Anakin isn't a total moron and should have known or guessed he was being manipulated) draws his light saber and the battle ensues with blood spill and the like. Anakin's rage getting deeper and deeper until he folds.

Sorry for not being all Star Trek but I just love making a thread huge mohaaaa

Having grown up on Star Wars, it holds my passion much more intensely, but i agree that Anakin's descent into darkness was a little cheesy ~ too bad Lucas didn't have an old Japanese movie to "borrow" from ;)

As Ruff so expertly pointed out:
Emp: rage, blah, blah, blah, anger, blah, blah, blah, Dark side, blah, blah, blah.
Anakin: Too right! die Younglings! although the emperor with a sock puppet WOULD've been funny ~ better that Jar jar binks at any rate.

Good point. He "restores the balance" in 3 by ending the reign of the Jedi. he restores teh balance in 6 by killing off the Sith Lord (and himself).

Pholkhero

If you follow the extended Universe unfortunately the Emporer did not die. His spirit drifted to find another body (had bodies ready for him I think) in which to host and eventually flips Luke to the dark side. (that's Lucas's true nature not that Hollywood everthing's fine at the end)

PS: An old Japanese movie would be a great example.

i read those last books YEARS ago ~ they were pretty good. I still have The Last Command somewhere in my basement.

I totally forgot that new Sith guy was teh Emperor's spirit.

Perhaps it's time to visit Amazon Used books?

NOoooooo not of TOS??? Geez... Thats SOOOOOO outdated... was good for its time, but soooooo outdated now...

Me I prever Start Trek over Star wars, but thats mostly cause I am more of a series kindoff guy than a Movie man....

The last 3 episodes of Stars Wars (i.e. the original 70s~80s) were great, and they are all time classics, but the first 3 were ... Pbbbffftt. Come on, Jar Jar bin??? :vomit: And Yoda hopping around?? That totally destroy Yoda's image as a Jedi master.

Now, Star Trek is another matter. I wasn't a great fan of the TOS, but its TNG that really captivated me. Yeah, TNG Generations was lame, but I personally think that Nemesis was great. Think about the tragic ending ... that alone enhances and heightens the life of Data, and is priceless. First contact was okay, it settled the Borg plot once and for all. Insurrection is good too, it is the only movie that actually reiterated the Prime Directive.

I think they should have produced a movie with Q in it though ...

Isn't Star Trek the topic??

I'm in the same camp, Fox. Never got into the original (though George Takei and Shatner are some of the funniest 'real' people i've ever heard!), but TNG really had me. It used to be on everyday at like 5 o'clock on our local television channel (after such cartoons as Animaniacs  ) and i'd watch it religiously!

in other news:
The Emperor's Council

Yeah, when I was working in California like a decade or two ago, one channel aired ST:TNG everynight at 11pm. I would watch it every night, even though I have seen some of the episode before. Then at 12am, switch to another channel that aired DS9.

After that, when I returned to Singapore, the local TV aired ST:TNG every wednesday night at 1am. I would watch it every week, even though I have seen almost every episode in Caifornia before :)

Recently, the national library allows free loaning of DVDs, and you guessed it, I watched every episode of TNG on DVD yet again!

Since the engineer has been MIA for more than 24 hu-man hours, pindicator is free to take command of the bridge if he so desire. If you choose to wait some more, its fine by me too.

This raises the really big question ... how long does it take you to know which episode is currently playing ... 10 seconds, 5 or do you need the whole teaser?
