Fox06 -- Need For Speed

They're healing .... they heal longer in enemy territory. Take ~5 turns to heal. You'll not get far if they're not properly healed, since we really can't use the pults to soften the defenders.

Plus, by the time they're healed up, the OTHER stack will be there to accompany them ;)

All the units are healed except for one Keshik, my man. I think we don't need to wait on one Keshik when the smaller cities will easily be crushed.

This case, I agree with ChrTh, the stack should have moved on to the next city, but for a different reason. Even if everyone is injured, the stack should still moved on. Those injured can heal back while the cat is slowly hurling stones at the city defenses. The cat is the bottleneck, we shouldn't add one more bottleneck of healing to it.

Oh ... then they must have healed while I was typing that msg ... yeah, that's it. Let's go with that. Ok ... right.

Maybe the download to my PC healed them?

Well, they can still move this turn at least (and I'm sure they finished healing this turn anyway, so no harm done), so Bede or GreyFox needs to make sure they send them on their way before hitting Enter.

If we wait another day, Monty will have more time to build troops. We must put an end to him ... NOW!

GreyFox, I should be able to play now, you want me to take it?

By all means ChrTh, take it away. I shall watch with glee!

Turn 0 -- 815 AD

First things first -- we have a stack of troops with one thing on its mind ... Waffles!

No wait, I mean War! :hammer:

With Code of Laws due next turn, I turn off Science.

I find a Fog-busting Chariot on the East Coast and remind him we have a Great Wall.

Wow, I like the music that's playing. I need to look at these mp3s.

Turn 1 -- 830 AD

We make a Tech Discovery:

f61mp0.jpg

And that means ...

f62tn5.jpg

I don't convert because I don't want to waste 1 turn in Anarchy. I send the Free Missionary to Carbon after verifying he moves more than 1 space a turn.

I decide to research Polytheism next (due in 6 someday). At 0% we're still -1 gpt :crazyeye: That'll change once I get the Courthouses started.

Stacks move with ominous footsteps.

Turn 2 -- 845 AD

Beijing: Keshik > Courthouse. Damn, I should've whipped it last turn. :smoke:

I do whip the Aqueduct in C10H15N.

Confucianism spreads in Carbon.

Turn 3 -- 860 AD

Carbon: Keshik > Keshik (not worth building a Courthouse here)
C10H15N: Aqueduct > Courthouse. Blech, it was emphasizing Commerce. I turn that off so it can build the courthouse quicker.

The situation at Teot:

f63ic9.jpg

Two archers, with no City Guard promotion?

I bombard to 12%. My best odds are with the War Elephant, at 98.3%. Piece o'cake, he's about to gain a level. I send in one my least experienced Keshiks at 77% ... and of course he loses  ... however the next Keshik has 99% odds, so ...

f64pl9.jpg

I disband the Workers. The Stack continues its march to Tenoc.

Turn 4 -- 875 AD

I whip the Keshik in Miramar for some Courthouse overflow. We have reached the walls of Tenochtitlan:

f65kc3.jpg

Turn 5 -- 900 AD

Miramar: Keshik > Courthouse

No one ever looked across the water? :gripe:

f66iw6.jpg

Ok, let's see what we can do at Tenoc.
First I bombard to 41%.

I think I can take it. In fact, I know I can.
First I send in the Catapult. Only 61% odds to win, but screw it, this is our last big city. Sometimes to break a few eggs you have to make an omelet.

He takes damage, but he lives, killing the archer and causing collateral damage. :woohoo:

I send in a Keshik, kills a Jaguar. Send in another Keshik, Archer is dead. Send in yet another Keshik, another Archer dead. Send in Keshik, kill Jaguar. I send in War Elephant (97% odds) and ...

f67ua9.jpg

Against my better judgement, I keep it. Start on Trireme. 7 Turns until out of revolt. I move the troops that need healing and don't have Walking Medic into the city to heal. Everone else moves to Tlat.

continued ...

...continued

Turn 6 -- 910 AD

We now 2 million souls in our Empire ... and 16 million corpses in our wake.

There's a barbarian archer looking at our Great Wall and crying. I mock him :nya:

Well lookie here ... what are you doing so far away from home?

f68he7.jpg

I dispatch him with a Keshik, and I send him on a southerly route to see if there are any stragglers.

Turn 7 -- 920 AD

I kill the Barbarian Archer for the Hell of It.

Turn 8 -- 930 AD

Carbon: Keshik > Granary
C10H15N: Courthouse > Keshik (we're now +1 gpt at 0%!)

Turn 9 -- 940 AD

The situation at Tlat:

f69up0.jpg

Bombard to 35%

I kill another Barbarian Archer for the Hell of It.

I :whipped: the Ger in Novgorod for overflow hammers for the Courthouse.

Turn 10 -- 950 AD

Novgorod: Ger > Courthouse

Bombard Tlat to 21%

Ok, I think I can take Tlat. May be :smoke: in the end, but we'll see.
First I send in a Keshilk with 78% odds. One archer down.
Next I sacrifice a Chariot to damage an archer.
I send in a Keshik with 72% odds .. he beats the Jaguar.
I send in a Keshik with 88% odds .. Tlat falls. I keep it as a staging location.

It also results in:

f610sz2.jpg

I don't do anything with him yet, as I don't see a troop to join him to.

And then there was One (I reckon) ...

f611il9.jpg

Results for the Round:
3 cities sacked
14 wins, 2 losses (1 sacrifice)
1 Great General
A whole lot of butt-whooping.

Monty has at least 1 Trireme. We need to be careful with our troops in Galleys as a result.

Here's the save:

Wow, things are really speeding up to the game's glorious end. Great job

But I see you are taking some pretty chancy battles with our generals, eh? I'm glad that Lady Luck is with you today. Must be the in-laws' visit ... life has a funny way of balancing things out.

You kept two cities????

Bede has the option of taking this game for the last time for the next 12hrs ... failing which I will play, and then Rex gets to just-press-enter.

 How quickly you forget:

No, we cannot afford to suicide cats. Suicide the keshiks we can do. Alternative is to leave Monty for the last, then it doesn't matter if we suicide the generals.

And, of course

You kept two cities????

  How even more quickly you forget:

Maybe we can keep both .. ???

Re: the galleys and Monty's trireme ... since we kept Tlat, what we should do is to assemble the galleys and troops in that city, load troops, wait one turn, move the galleys and unload the troops within the same turn to the land west of the presumed-last-city. Of-course we should have some trireme support of our own.

Hmm ... what's the point of a granary in Carbon? Might as well set it at research so that maybe we get polytheism one turn earlier and can start the CS-slingshot.

 @ the how-quickly-I-forgot ... I am simply role-playing the Need-For-Speed.

Hmm ... what's the point of a granary in Carbon?

Health. Don't need any more troops, thought we could get it growing again. Also considered building Hanging Gardens in Miramar.

:dubious: uhhh ... you do realize we have just one city left to take, right? What do we need CS for?

One More Thing (tm): We might want to position the chariots along the West Coast in case Monty tries to land a settler.

Get it growing? You do realize we have just one city left to take, right? What do we need growth for? Plus, we are at happy limit unless we revolt to Confused.

Getting the CS-slingshot increases our score, that's why! :) But then again, we already had Priesthood ... so likely the Oracle was already built and razed :crazyeye:

I would hate to get in the way of the Grey Fox-Rex Victory Dance. And I am having way too much kibbitzing the badinage and persiflage. Play on, boys, play on.

Well, I tried my best to complete the game in 15 turns, but can't :mischief:

As ChrTh says, kill an archer, because I can. This turns out to be the only battle I had.

fox06-AD0980-archer.jpg

The remaining turns turns out to be a mad race to get the workers rushed to the two new cities for chopping duties. In the mean time, I decided we should have a sword, and so, we had a sword.

fox06-AD1070-swordsman.jpg

I realize my grand plan of 1 turn galley ferrying won't work because Tlat and the last aztec city is 3 sea tiles away :aargh: Hence I had to resort to the technique of luring and sneaking.

First, Monty finally discovers we have coastal cities and decides to send his trireme to pillage the clams at the south ...

fox06-AD1106-monty-trieme.jpg

I waited for the trireme to reach the south of Tlat, and then a galley went off and landed a cat and an elephant next to his city.

It was then, Monty decides to turn back and chase that galley.

fox06-AD1118-monty-chase.jpg

Fine, what a predictable move. My galley moved further north, and successfully lured the Aztec trireme to follow, thus opening a window for a second galley to move off Tlat.

fox06-AD1124-monty-chase.jpg

So, there you are, we have troops to kill Aztec once and for all next turn.
