Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Are you planning to quit Civ in less than 10 years? Why? :)

BTW, have you recently checked the middle link of my sig? :mischief:

Is there a method for uploading a screenshot directly from MSPaint to my User CP "attachments" folder without that image being an attachment to a post?

I ask for two reasons: 1) to be able to view the image prior to posting (make sure it's the one I want posted) and 2) to test how large & clear the image is prior to posting (I don't want to inadvertantly attach a poster sized image that's too fuzzy to make out).

BTW, if you guys want to suggest a question to include in this FAQ, feel free to post here.
A "Where Should I Post This:" (Tacked?) Thread?

Civfanatics has so much content that sometimes deciding which forum a question (like this one) or suggestion (like this one) goes isn't so easy; especially when a member (like this one) is still learning the right way to do things here.

Now for my question:

Where should I post:

a) small reference charts re: info taken from the civilopedia or the game's editor,

b) "not-so-newbie" questions and/or tips (ie. for those who know the basics of stuff but are ready for slightly more involved strategies)?

Thanks.

Depending on the game civ3 or 4 posting in strategy and tips may be best for both. im not sure however why your posting the civilopedia so im not sure about that one.

It would probably be better to upload those to ImageShack from the reply page. You can see the image before copying the url into your post. Plus you have unlimited space.

The only disadvantage is that it's always a thumbnail. :(

Ohhh !!! Let me try ...

EDIT: OMG it works ... i didn't know this ... all this time i have been posting crappy thumbnails

Does this post have a screenshot? And is that screenshot descriptive?

Edit: Okay, I got that far. Looks horrible though (from MSPaint). I guess I have to write down the URL before I start?

Last Edit: Duh, maybe if I enlarge it using the onscreen enlarge button!

Not if you copy the actual image url instead of the forum code....
Ummm, how do I know the URL code from a "My Pictures" saved file? [Edit:Text Deleted]

Padma, I thought so. Would that be accomplished correctly if I put it in my Yahoo Photo Albums...that would give it a URL, right? Or is this the step I would accomplish with membership in some sort of file storage/upload server (like the one named at "manage attachments")?

[Added: ImageShack]

this has been asked and answered somewhere before but i cant remember where, is there anyway of knowing how close you are to a ban? im pretty curious

PM a mod and ask. We'll let you know. As for the 'not-so-newbie' questions, use the Quick Answer's thread in the Civ3/Civ4 GD sections. That's the intention of those threads.

Best to PM a moderator and ask them.

And no, we won't publicly state how close you are to a ban. Unless it's part of a warning.

also, after how many bannings do you get your own personal thread in the mods forum??

Also kind of curious whether any of you mods got banned before becoming a mod?

Yes, I am perpetually scared about being banned (See today's closed OT threads *shudder*) so I wish to know WHO to PM.
Is there an official list for all the moderators to see who's head is on the chopping block?
And could I be warned for reporting a large (And I Mean LARGE) # of people? I hope not...

Every forum lists the moderators of that forum on the top right hand side, next to the active users.

Being banned is pretty painless; it will only hurt your ego. ;)

Spoiler :
You've spammed or trolled or flamed too much,
And with the rules you'd best be in touch;
So as a mod for this here thread
I bring the moment of which you dread,
And with the power at my command
Three's the count for the days you're banned.

You can still link to imageshack and have the proper size still. HEre is an example of what you can do. Below is how you get that picture and this is what the page looks like. The bit I copied is what you should highlight to get the picture.

I hope that helps.
