Full hard disk during civ3

Greetings everyone,

I just bought Civilization 3. When I run the game after about 30 minutes disk cleanup pops op and civilization displays an illegal operation message. The hard disk is full and when I look at the properties of my hard disk it is almost completely filled. When I wait a few minutes the previously available space returns. The problem continued after I installed the latest patch. I was able to determine my windows directory increases about a gigabyte when this occurs. The previously available space always returns. I have an 8 gigabyte hard disk with 1.2 gigabytes free. This only occurs during Civilization 3. I searched civ3 forums and troubleshooting guides but this problem was never mentioned. Anyone any idea?

Sounds like a swapfile issue - I cant remeber the exact specifications for civ3 but does it say something about required hard disk space ? I cant remember if it mentions swap file ( I may be getting confused with another game - I dont have the manual with me at the moment).

It may also be that you have insufficient memory and windows is increasing the swap file to compensate - you dont mention what your computer memory is - first thing is to disable/unload any background programs before starting civ - it is memory hungry.

Tide,

I had the similar issue some time ago. I just uninstalled the Civ-3 from C:\ drive and installed it in E:\ drive which had about 5 gigs of space. The problem was solved. I install all the external programs in E drives now as my C: drive has only 2 Gigs of space.

Hope this helps..

Thanks
Peace

Thank you both for your suggestions. It was a driver issue. My viper550 driver needed an upgrade.

Thanks
