Full Monty

Well, I'll give this thread a few more days to see if we can attract any other players before we start rolling. Unfortunately, I think some of the civ 4 ranks have been dwindling what with the advent of SC2...

First I didn't want to ask, but since you're really looking for more players:

I don't know if you guys are willing to take a monarch/emperor player, I'd be honored to join (and totally not offended in any way if you decline). To compensate for my lower level, I could play shorter turnsets, make a more detailed plan before my turnset, and I could pause and ask for advice when facing a decision in my turnset.

I do know a lot of tricks (beg 1 gold to avoid war-like stuff), my diplo is a bit on the weak side, but at least I'll be able to remeber each AI's favourite civic, unitprob and declares-at-what-attitude and stuff :)

Again, I understand if you guys don't want to.

I bet there is some other resource somewhere in the north (see the blue circle).

I'd settle 1W1N to try to grab another resource and leave some place for the cow city in the south.
SIP for a better defense is not a good reason. I've never let monty attack my cap.

I'll sign up if you'll have me. Normally an Emperor player.

My 2 cents, 1NW looks good, warrior SE next turn, that blue cirlce has to be hiding some seafood or something, and the warrior is already south.

Delurking...

I thought that I could quickly throw down some name changes like Kossin suggested, so I opened up the WB, realised I couldn't do that in there, then spent a while learning about the .txt version. Soooo, here is the starting save from my (inexpertly) edited world builder with new names for each psycho if you want to use it.

Changes:
Swapped name section to
LeaderName=[Colour]_Monty
CivDesc=[Colour]_Monty
CivShortDesc=[Colour]s
CivAdjective=[Colour]ites

Swapped handicaps for each civ from Handicap=HANDICAP_NOBLE to Handicap=HANDICAP_DEITY

Added techs to the Barbarians in the normal WB interface: Myst, Agri, Wheel, Hunting, Archery, Mining (This is what I'm least sure about being right as I don't normally play on Deity)

Regardless it looks like an interesting map, have fun! :)

I might be wrong but I thought AIs are suppsed to have "noble handicap". I didn't think there was any need for modifications except the name/civ description/etc.

I am ok with lower-level players but monarch is quite a stretch. Deity also is very different to emperor... I'd suggest you guys quickly play a sologame and see how it is? I don't like players dropping out midgame... If you feel up to it, be welcome! :)

Thats quite a few settling options :lol: I don't have much of an overview on the iPhone but I try to give my opinion:

I don't like losing a turn with the capital in normal speed games, even less on deity. Settling anywhere south means losing a turn, and more importantly, will share cows with a city down there. I'm quite sure that we'll find seafood down there, which might be our GPfarm depending on what we find. Plus we lose fresh water, giving up the rice is no biggie. I'm definitely against settling somewhere south.

NE: We lose a turn but get PH.. not so bad but very risky - we might get new resources but might lose the strat resource and get just junk, with jungle so close. We lose fresh water too.. I don't see why we'd settle there.

I think there was NW mentionned too..Doesn't lose a turn, keeps fresh water, as tons of river tiles... but still the risk to lose the resource. It looks to me like we're also giving up quite a few green tiles, and I don't really see an improvement to this site except the river... I'd be most willing to move there even though I don't really see why. I'd still SIP :D

Yeah I'm pretty sure the handicap for the AIs is normally always Noble; it affects things such as AI tech costs and AI maintenance costs which never change (contrary to popular belief). The human player's handicap affects all the AI players as well for many things, such as different maintenance costs, war weariness, growth threshold etc. :)

@mysty,
Why is the copper/horse so important? We'll get a second border pop in 3000 BC for strategic purposes. The extra hammer+food from one tile isn't as good as the river commerce, IMHO.

Edit:
I'd also prefer Immortal+ players. Being an Immortal player with some Deity experience, I'm the weakest link here, and I'm quite scared of messing something up during a TS.

@dingding,
wanna join us? We could call this provisional team "One Short Plastic Duck". :D

could i sign up? i promise not to delete any posts this time:rolleyes:
I am on enforced holidays and it is damn rainy here. Can win OCC at immortal sometimes, but have not touched diety lately

The only reason to move is to gain riverside, IMHO. I would consider two west for plain hill, although it is pretty much gamble as it is hard to guess how much desert, brown tiles and jungles is westwards....

I would prefer to avoid endless discussions, we had enough of that lately ;) As I don't see a clear consensus on settling I think you, shyuhe, as active player, should go ahead with what you consider best.

Welcome soirana :dance:

OK, thanks for the explanations and patience, that is all good to know! I'll go look into it for my own reference.

Agree. :)

Yes, those are Monty's first three cities. :lol:

Will do some more, when I have the time...

Sorry guys, was busy with some other stuff. Will get to this tonight - I'll edit the WB save for the names and give the barbs archery. I'll trust the map generator and settle in place, as I can't remember if the rice is wet.

Looks like we have a full roster now:
shyuhe
mystyfly
bbp
kossin
soirana
Silu (lurking)

@Mike and Neil - sorry guys, but I think a deity game with all Monty's that will probably end up playing as an AW game will be difficult if you're not used to at least immortal. Next time though!

@bbp - those are some funny maps!

No problem Shyuhe. I'll be lurking this one though.

I'll report back here ifWHEN, i said WHEN... ahum.. when we have won the Monarchs take on Deity SG. :mischief: We are doing very well now, it's 3300 BC and we STILL haven't lost due to barbs yet! Even though we only have warriors! Oh man, we're SO goooood! Ehm... what's that? Oh, those warriors are called Quecha's?? Well... what's the difference?? Besides the funny name of course...

Anyways, have fun!

PS I suggest not renaming the monties. I DO suggest setting all AI monties culture colors back to their original monty-green one, heh heh heh :devil: (I'm more than willing to make these changes if you want)

No worries, I will be lurking with interest.

So I was going to start playing and realized we had 0 discussion about starting techs. Settled in place trusting the RNG:

So I'm thinking copper or horses are in the BFC. Hard to tell which though. Do we want mining--BW or AH? I vote mining--BW, as it looks like the land to the west is narrower (suggesting a peninsula). I've edited the leader names and adjectives to... Aztec gods. Hopefully they're not too incomprehensible.

And yes, I made sure barbies have archery.
