I've started this thread for people to post about the funniest thing that has happened to you / seen by you in Spore.

For me, I was in creature phase and battling it out with a species. Suddenly they literally all scattered and ran away. I saw a shadow pass over me and looked up. There was a UFO.

I got abducted!

BTW, some of the missions you get in the space phase involve abducting creatures from other planets. So it's good to know that you can suffer from the same things that you can do to other planets when you get to space phase. :)

I think the only thing funnier would have been if you were trying to charm them, then the ran away.

I've been watching some spore streams, and at times notice a huge shadow pass over. (I think one had a flying epic creature) What happens when you get abducted? Do you "die"? Or spawn on a new planet?

You're reborn at your nest. Same as dieing.

I read about the same thing happening to a previewer in the tribal phase. He was about to attack an enemy tribe, when a ufo flew over and abducted one of his soldiers. That's something you don't see in AOE.:D

Well it happened to me again just now. And I was fast enough to pause to get screenies of it. :)

This time in Tribe, and one of my guys got zapped off.

Given that one of the facts of this game is that life is nearly everywhere, it's not really all that surprising.

Yeah, but aliens usually don't pop in to visit in the one sample we have.

Yeah, having the game ruined by alien invaders is not an exciting prospect.

Losing one tribe member out of 12 is not "game ruined". Also, if you get zapped away in creature, then you don't die, you're reborn where you left off. So it's not ruining the game.

But then when you hit space you can do it to every planet you find too. :mischief:

Cool, now put out an all points bulletin on that spaceship so you can nuke their planet later.

Are those Willosaur-type creatures?

How is it emmersion breaking?

How is it immersion breaking? Let me count the ways.

Seriously, you're playing a game on the tribal mode, where you have creatures running around, occasionally attacking different peoples, generally growing through the phases of societies until the dawn of agriculture and civilization... Your people are in the middle of cracking another people's skulls wide open, then suddenly a giant UFO appears over you and abducts you.

Now maybe it's just me, but having a giant spaceship abduct your creatures isn't what I associate with the story of the human race, and it isn't what I'd like to associate with the story of my race, either.

I noted to you in private conversation that it's no different than your tribe believing that some sky god carried away the shaman- maybe a sign that you should be a religious civilization of some sort. The game, I believe, will be much more fun if you roleplay it, as I intend to do.

Although I doubt i'll get the game, I do have a question: Could you destroy a spaceship in the tribe or civ. stages? I'd find that pretty awesome if you could.

Seriously, you're losing tribesmen so fast anyways you don't even notice the addition of one extra loss. To take over another tribe (~6 warriors plus the rest civil) you'll probably lose ~15 of your own. So you'll be doing about three waves per tribe. Though this does depend on how strong that species is, and how "combat orientated" they are.

And maybe I'm a God-botherer who doesn't believe in evolution and this whole game is a massive slap-in-the-face to me?

Seriously mate, it's just a game. If it bothers you so much, don't get it. :)

It's not the loss of the creature, and it's not gameplay mechanics. It's immersion.

"I really hope this isn't commonplace." I don't think I've been particularly heated.
