Assuming that there will be future DLC (I see no reason why 2K wouldn't want to keep making money) would they still cater to Vanilla or would they take advantage of the mechanics introduced in G&K? It would be stupid IMO to have something like the Moors, for example, and not have religion in it.

I see a few possibilities

1. To buy future DLC G&K is required.
2. There will be a bundle pack with both G&K and the new DLC.
3. G&K and future DLC are independent if each other.
4. Any civ (lets say the moors) that is added will have a different ability based on whether or not you have G&K.

I think that they will take advantage of G&K mechanics for the following reasons:
1) people which are still interested in a Civ5 DLC after 1 and half year from release have probably already bought the expansion. Casual gamers have already moved to other games.
2) It gives another incentive to buy the big piece of the cake: G&K

Scenarios are more tricky though. A Religion Oriented Scenario can't work without Religion... making it Gak exlcusive.

5. If it makes use of a G&K feature it requires G&K, if not - it doesn't.

I believe from here on out all DLC will be based on G&K. We won't see anymore catering to vanilla in the area of DLC. There's plenty of DLC im sure there going to support the expansion pack from here on.

true, but if there's a new civ being added, it doesn't mean that it 'must' use espionage or religion. SO if the new civ doesn't use those, then there's no reason that they can't be used in vanilla.

Yeah but G&K is an expansion pack, its a whole new addition to the game. You can buy a disk for it. I don't know why its even marked as DLC on steam because technically its an expansion pack which i guess you could call DLC but my point is that any DLC will be made for Gods and Kings. It won't just be Civilization 5 DLC anymore it'll be DLC for Civilization 5 Gods and Kings.

While I agree with this, in general, it doesn't rule out creation of a civ/scenario/DLC that doesn't happen to use GaK specific features. That's all I'm saying.

I'm thinking along the lines that if it doesn't explicitly require g&k then it won't need it. They don't wanna alienate fans who may want to buy the expansion in the future by ignoring them.

But i do think any civs or scenarios that are released and require g&k are gunna look a lot more attractive to your average player than the vanilla ones.

By the way, if CiV is vanilla, is G&K chocolate or strawberry?

I'd love to see a Cold War Scenario myself, maybe called "The Long Twilight Struggle", with the goal being to "take over" as much of the world as possible without going to war with any of the major Civs. So maybe you can play as China, Arabia, America, France, West Germany, Japan or Russia (the major Civs), with all the other modern civilizations represented as City-States (though you might have some other major Civs, like Persia or Egypt, so as to have a good spread of major civs across the board).

Another thought might be to change religion & Social Policies for the purpose of the DLC. Have religion elements replaced with Ideologies (Communism, Fundamentalism, Liberalism, Fascism), but which can be spread & utilized like religions in the base game. Social Policies might be more trimmed down than in the base game, though in what way I'm not sure.

Aussie.

It'll take a long time(maybe in Civ6 or Civ7) to do such thing . There are at least 3 problems to implement such scenario in Civ5:

1)City-states only includes one city(hence the name),which will difficult the representation of the territory of many countries;
2) There will be more than 22 civs in this maps and more than 28 city-states,which is the current limit of the civs and city-states;
3) Because of the size of the map,the computer must be very,very powerful in order to run such scenario without problems.

You're wrong with first number

A. On numerous occasions, the City State is more than capable of conquering another city, while it usually razes it, other CS and capitals remain in their control.

B. City States can have as big of a territory as you want, the cities arent settled by settlers, since we're talkin' about modern scenario all cities will be pre-plopped down.

Well I may accept city-states with 2 or 4 cities,but I'd like to see the case of Brazil and Canada . It would be too much awkward if both Brazil and Canada is only represented by a cluster of city-states,since their territory is bigger than the territory of most civilization represented in the game . But,I'd like to see this scenario as a bonus for players that bought all the dlcs of Civ5 .

They could do it now with Civ3 or 4 because they have lower system requirements.

While it can certainly be done a different way, I imagine all new DLC will require G&K. This will encourage more people to purchase the expansion if they want the new stuff being released. Makes too much sense from a business standpoint.

It isn't about them making additional DLCs after they had already have made the expansion, more likely they had all of the parts of the game made at a certain stretch of time, and then decided to take parts out of it so that they can sell the majority of the parts on one specific date and sell the remaining small parts for another later date.
