I know this may be a stupid question, but does Future Tech ever end? I don't want to keep putting in 500 gold per turn for it. If it doesn't end, are there any mods to stop this?

It ends at the turn limit

It's like the song that never ends...

If you don't want to keep teching it tho, just set the science slider to zero.

Ok, thanks. Just wondering if it ended or not.

Because you probably have more use for producing wealth or espionage by that point. Wealth for rushbuying (who cares if that city you just captured has zero infrastructure? It can still produce a Modern Armor every other turn!), espionage for messing with any other civs that are getting too close to victory.

Very few are the games that aren't decisively decided by the time you can tech Future Tech.

Yeah, I'm kinda assuming that you're in mop-up duties for a conquest/domination victory by that point.

Future tech is the only tech with the xml tag bRepeat set to 1 (true) - this means that once you have the prerequisites, you can always research it, even if you already have done. So it will never end...

Does that mean that e.g. if Genetics were set to repeat, you could research it over and over again for the global health bonus?

No. What it means is that the computer will automatically research Future Tech 1, then 2 then 3 without asking you your opinion. But no tech can be repeated twice for it's bonuses.

What it means is that you get +1 health and happiness for Future 1, then another +1 for Future 2 and so on. So in a sense you do continue to get the global health bonus, but just +1 for each future tech.

How is that a no? If you set genetics to repeat, it would provide the 2 health each time. Your answer is irrelevant .

Perhaps I was unclear on the question. Unless you are playing an unusual mod or edit the XML you can't research the same tech twice. If you set genetic to repeat by editing or modding than, yes, my answer would be irrelevant. I meant that in CivIV unmodded no tech can be repeated except Future Tech (which, admittedly, was already said).

And he gave an example of genetics with <bRepeat>1<bRepeat>

Yes, what I meant by "set Genetics to repeat" is "modify the XML so that Genetics repeats, like Future Tech does".

Anyway, thanks for answering the question.
