Future Techs?

For the first time i've researched the entire tech tree, every other game i've played i won before this happened, but in my current game i'm going for a 20K city victory and it's coming down to the wire, so the game is going well into the 21st century.

I was surprised when i suddenly realized i was researching "Future Tech 1," and was excited about it, having never heard of such a thing before. But once i got it, it didn't seem to do anything for me. No new units, buildings, options etc. It also seems i can't trade it with other civilizations.

So, what exactly IS future tech? Does it do anything or is it just something added in so it doesn't look like the tech tree ends? How many future techs are there? :confused:

It would be nice if maybe they gave a better bonus for future techs, especially to Civs with Scientific traits.

They seem to give a few points, but they are averaged in over the 540 turns so you are lucky if you get anything out of them, you may get 2 or 3 points by the end of the game if you dicovered your first future tech with maybe 50 to 100 turns left in the game.

They maybe should have given points equivalent to 10 times the value of a piece of territory, maybe that would average in better.
 
Can other techs be added to the future era exept Future Techologies 1,2,etc?
