I'm still considering angles on it. But I think that maybe the XB and PS4 versions plus current expansions for all platforms is Firaxis' contribution to 2K's profit margin for the current fiscal year.
And perhaps they wanted to give the players on the consoles enough time to buy the current expansions before offering the next content release to all platforms simultaneously.
So the expansion or DLC or whatever would wait until the next fiscal year.
I'm still kind of iffy on that interpretation. I need to spin it around in my head some more.
You know, I'm kind of impressed that you went over a year back to find posts of me. Though I will admit I haven't posted that much between then and now.
I do that when I don't recognise a member. You were coming across as a bit aggressive and I needed to know whether it was normal behaviour or not. But then I found that post and I felt compelled to show you we're not so different you and I.
If you're to small, you will/should never become scientifically or culturally influential to the degree required to win Civilisation simply because you don't have the smart or creative people respectively to back it up.
I'm not so sure about that. Consider the influence of Genoa prior to the conquest of Constantinople. Portugal was arguably at its peak long before colonisation began in earnest, when they disrupted the routes dominated by Venice, the Ottomans and the Mameluks, not when they controlled vast territories in Brazil and Africa. Korea today is fairly small in size yet aspects of their culture reach millions worldwide, a phenomenon that in terms of dimension is only comparable with Americanisation. And as for being small yet influential to the degree required to win Civilisation, one needs to look no further than Greek City-States, whose culture influenced empires and whose philosophers are widely read still today, despite their own borders never having reached far beyond the limits of their cities. And then there's also Singapore in the modern era. I wouldn't be surprised to see it added to the game in place of Venice this time around.
I think victory conditions are abstractions in a game which would otherwise be endless. Tall just means population size shouldn't equate lack of science and culture, because it doesn't matter much if you have the numbers when there are no incentives in place for potential Newtons to be anything more than poor farmers. And even if a state/country generates the minds, then you need the incentives to keep them there.

nearly everyone is remastering or doing HD versions of classics , how likely is it that we could get SMAC or Colonization?
You could post in offtopic or ideas & suggestions. You might consider it a pub, but you opened the door and everyone in town can hear your ideas. I assume people could find the pub called “offtopic” if they had that craving. I just check here for an update - not your ideas.
I know this probably won't happen, but I think there could be staggered starts for the Classical age, Medieval Age, and maybe even Renaissance. This could be based on a fixed number PLUS eliminated civs, to represent emergent civs and cultures. They would get some extra units, and cities with maybe a little extra population and free builders to help out. It would definitely add to the feeling of new empires rising.
Idk, something I feel is sorely lacking is that dynamism. Instead, everyone starts in 4000 BC on equal footing and I would like the shake-up.

But this thread has been overwhelmingly ideas, hopes and speculation from the very start? How can the thread be 90% off-topic when speculation and ideas has been the topic? Sure, I guess it's gone a bit overboard and lost steam now, but it has lost steam not because of a lack of updates, since there have been zero actual updates in a 100-page thread, but because we've milked all the potential speculation. And let's not forget speculation so far as mostly meant trying to figure out hidden meanings in Kevin Schultz's pasta.
First post:
Sure I'm jumping the gun a lot, but do you think it likely we might get another update this year-say around November or early December?
If so, what do think think-or hope-will be included?
For me, it'd be:
-Plague Mechanics (& ways to counter them).
-more 3rd party diplomacy (3rd party peace/trade & more ways to protect City-States from aggression).
-Further improvements to going tall (making specialists more beneficial).
I like it that way. Any real announcement will get a new thread anyhow so take solace in the idea that you don't need to waste seconds of your valuable time here.

Moderator Action: While we understand the lack of information leads to frustration and topic creep, people come here to learn if there is anything going on with a Winter Update. Think of their frustration when they have to read through pages of information that has little to do with an update. We have a entire forum for Ideas and Suggestions, Firaxians read it and so you should use it. They are not going to wander through pages of stuff looking for a lost nugget. Please focus on a Winter Update and news and speculation concerning it.
I'm 99% certain that if there is additional paid content coming, there will be a free patch either before or concurrently with the release of that content. I'm not expecting a large patch, though.
My feeling is that a patch will be released soonish. Hopefully this week or next. There are things that need to be mended on Mac and the pantheon exploit needs to be removed for MP sake.
I think new content is coming at some point. But I subscribe to the theory that if it were coming in Q1, they would have begun the marketing campaign prior to the holidays to get that sweet holiday preorder cash flow.
Therefore, we should be expecting Q2 at the earliest with the marketing campaign potentially beginning as early as mid-February.
