I don't think they will be announcing a patch today. We still haven't seen Aspyr's builds submitted for 2K QA approval yet. I imagine they want to have that approval before they settle on a date.

I'm going to be in a big project meeting in half an hour. So they will probably drop the expansion announcement while I am in there.

If I were a Firaxis employee I'd take a picture of the back alley leading to the office's rear entrance, post it on twitter with the text "What mysteries lie in untrodden paths?" or some such nonsense, then grab some popcorn and watch reddit and civfanatics go mental for the next two weeks.

Another point of view, the whole point of announcements and trailers are to generate hype for the game or upcoming xp. To be honest i dont see anyway how much more hype they can actually generate by actually doing something?
Maybe the best way is to stop talking about anything related to xp update patch or whatever

Definitely - If they are going to release it in even the first half of 2020, it would make sense to me for it to be available for pre-order on Christmas day for steam gift card use.

In that case, if nothing is announced in the next week or so, does that make a Q1 2020 release unlikely?

This would I guess mean the next likely scenario would be Q1 announcement for Q2 release... or even later... or nothing at all. But we literally have them saying around the time Red Death came out that they weren't done with the game, so...
