[GS] Future Update?

At this point the only thing that really bugs me out is the possibility of them not releasing the dll never.

All that they've never done and will ever do can be achieved faster and better by modders. But they need the damn thing.

There's absolutely no way they aren't going to release the DLL? Why wouldn't they?

If anything the likelihood of Civ 6's "support" coming o an end means the DLL is closer, because now that there's no more additional content they can just open that door for modders.

And as last man standing, I am still here as the sole part of 'Third exp pack is still coming' gang, just out of need to be unique snowflake.
You can't take me alive.

Well at this point I am more waiting for DLLs than for another expansion. For one I have lost most of my hope, but if the development cycle is near the end DLLs were to be released we could get some some serious quality mods and overhauls.

It would make sense to use the current engine on civ 6 and make a spin off 4x game in space or fantasy.
To me it makes the most sense even do beyond earth kind of failed as an inbetween project.
I`ve still got some hopes of a remake of the first xcom. At least the same setting of aliens invading earth. Somehow the first xcom did more for me then the 2nd (rebels) one.
But i`ll much rather see continued development on civ 6 then splitting recources. I can only play one game at a time. And i`ll rather see one good game then firaxis making 2 mediocre ones.

I've been waiting for fantasy spinoff since Civ II Fantastic Worlds. But, and I've been pushing this too, I think the game is ripe for a neolithic setting too, either spinoff or additional era in the main game.

civilization Victoria 3. It would make the paradox community very happy. A very specialised era on an earth map with real city locations. Just imagine like 20 different ships. It would be so cool.

I read a couple of the last replies (but not all of them, just too much stuff), and you guys think that there will be no third expansion? Why is that? That would be a huge bummer.

At this point I would also say that what is probably gona happen is some kind of spin off (which nobody asked for) late this year or early next ... something about virus, epidemic, zombie (maybe) or stupid like that.

You are ever the pessimist my friend! Your posts are always predicting something unfavorable. Cheer up, we may get something that will surprise us all pleasantly :)

just speculation. Firaxis can drop the bomb any week from now (it might as well be months). There is a very high certainly development for civ 6 has not stopped. Due to what the devs said in last september update and the found 10 hidden achievement leaks. In what shape or form the end phase of civ 6 development will be is unknown. Firaxis is silent as a grave. The civ community is getting increasingly irritated since there was nothing to show for before the last holidays. At two times we expected news from firaxis. In November and Januari. There was nothing but meaningless fillers in social media to entertain us with.

Update: no news this week. Another giveaway. Third one this week.

Reminds me of the comedian Karl Valentin, who in a situation in which was agreement about everything had been said already, remarked "but not everybody has said everything already ..."

I’m doing my best to get all the Civ6 steam achievements in the meantime while I’m waiting for something to happen.

72 achievements so far. I`ve grabbed the easy ones along the way. But on epic game speed achievement hunting goes so sluggish.

I've got 241 out of 246 (5 left) and I only play on Epic speed (but then again, I do have 3,084hrs of play time. Generally I can knock out a whole Huge-Epic game without quick animations in a day by either Diplo, Culture or Science Victory. I never do Domination or Religous normally.

(I'm only missing the Diety Scenario achivements for the Polish, Egypt's Nile, Nirvana, Alexander and Black Death)

I'm still hoping we hear something soon, even if it's just confimration of a patch coming out soon or new content in the works. However I would love it if they did drop a patch and DLC out of the blue for us.

Beyond Earth 2 or Fantasy spin-off is the question.
If I only have these 2 choices and must vote for 1 it would be fantasy as Beyond Earth was the worst Syfi game I have ever tried to play.
My real vote would be neither as the Age of Wonders franchise and even the Warlock games do a better job than the current team at Firaxis has proven to be capable of doing within the 4X genre.
What Firaxis really needs to do is fix this game(to reclaim the respect they have lost with it so far) then go to Civ VII take their time(1 or 2) years and allow an open Beta process ( I would buy the game in advance to be included)

impressive. I’ve only got like 800 hours played. And i must have finished like 6-8 games with Peter (Russia). Somehow the extra tiles must make the civ strong but i could never really make it work. Guess it is because i am almost always going with a fast prophet.

Im actually not very optimistic in this regard.

Releasing the .dll would be an executive decision. After working in software companies I know the only thing that beats human stupidity is executive stupidity motivated by greed.

Honestly, Fxs releasing the .dll in previous civ games should be seen as nothing short of a miracle nowadays. Consumer friendly policies sooner or later get thrown under the bus in all companies I know. Only extraordinary people and continuous consumer presure can sometimes counteract those trends.

I still believe that more content is coming, even if it won't be a full blown expansion.
Their words tell us they aren't completely done.

I am curious, not being in the modding community at all, is this (releasing a game's .DLL) common for other AAA games out there in the past 5 years or so?

With how secretive a lot of companies are with proprietary code, when I first heard that Firaxis ever released anything like this I was surprised. I realize there is a big open source community out there, but a lot of corporations still shy away from "sharing" if they feel it is to their competitive advantage not to.

Rambling a bit here, but I wonder if the announcement of Humankind made them decide to hold back here.

Soren Johnson really wanted it. I'll never forget this picture (in a video during a talk on game AI): he putting this film on a overhead projector: "The AI Code to Civ4 ... compile it yourself: 2kgames.com/civ4/downloads.htm". To me this is dedication, commitment.
