Canada
Germany
Russia
France
U.K.
U.S.
Japan
Italy
What other 5 countrys would you think were invited based on your best guess based on there clout (sp?) in global and regional events both?

This one is done right :D

No searching till you vote *wags finger* takes out all of the fun.

Fifa :scared:

I voted for the Netherlands off course, and some others.

Four out of five, I voted Spain instead of South Africa. Not bad.

Brazil, China, India, Korea and Mexico.

Edit: 4 out of five, voted South Korea instead of South Africa. and
1. I assumed it is South Korea we're talking of.
2. Just because you got a World Cup you probably won't be able to host anyway does not mean you should go to the G8. But I understand, a democratic country in Africa...

G-8, what's that? And is it a good thing that my countrys in it?

A summit where the mostly self-appointed most industrious nations on Earth meet to discuss stuff and sheet :)

The "Most industrious nations" was the original plan, and it used to be the G7, but then politics got into that and Russia was admitted.
They also invite 5 countries every year.

Now is it a good thing? Well, my opinion is that the more countries work together, the better.
But other people could think that this is just a waste of time and that the US does not need to bind itself in international agreements...

Brazil, China and India are shoo-ins. After that not sure, Turkey seems plausable, lot of people in indonesia, pakistan and nigeria. Maby not Oz, being as how there are so many anglo-saxon nations there already.

it's nice to see that italy is considered to be important by other countries.

I went for Brazil,Ireland, China, Italy,India,South Africa.

My reasoning was ethnic mix, understanding of terrorism and the issues, or just sheer political clout. Might of put the spoiler up later, as you can see I didn't read it but it was tempting :)

Crap, of course I never chose Italy, it was your subliminal messages that made me :D I meant all those bar Italy, that was wierd, thanks Chris :)

As Italy has the world's 7th largest economy in the world its importance speaks for itself.

It should be noted that the addition of Italy and Canada to turn the G5 into the G7 had political motivations. France and Germany wanted Italy added to boost the European presence, the UK and USA agreed on the condition Canada was added to boost the anglosphere presence.

Japan was more than content to remain the only Asian country to ensure its continued dominance in the region, though those days are gone for certain.

Four out of five.
Seems I wasn't the only one who made the same mistake in the south of US America.

i know myself italy should be in G8, but a lot of people have things against italy, especially now that italy won the world cup. even famous people like jeremy clarkson (presenter of "top gear" in england, a tv show about cars) regularly take the piss out of italy and the italian people.

i remember once he said something along the lines of:

"it would be nice for people to buy the maserati quattroporte because the money raised would be going to a third world country, italy".

utter arrogance and ignorance.

the above may be considered offtopic, but i see it as some people's perspective of italy, a rather different one to the truth.
