So just started playing and it seems like a real waste of gold having to connect cities by road and was wondering if building citys on the coast or on rivers connect to each other as trade routes?
Ty. Also in civ 4 if you built a city say at the start of a river and a city down the river at the coast they would be connected does that work in civ5?

With the exception of two civilizations - the Iroquois, who can count Forest in their territory as roads for city connections and Sumeria in the Ancient Wonders DLC which counts tiles adjacent to rivers as roads for city connections (I believe).
