G-Major 20

That settler spam thing is far to be clear: are you sure time is checked first?
Anyway, FT 392 is impressive: i should have reached 350 perhaps in my crippled (abandoned for now) attempt. Now i got 2 more good choices, let's see what comes.

Yes I know it sounds weird but that's what I got in my test. You can download my saved game, its on the last turn of a Duel game with everything set up for a Domination or Conquest or both. The first time I finish the game I get a Time Victory, but if I reload the save without restarting the program and do it again, then I get a Domination or Conquest. I run Vista, if that makes a difference.

I also found that Corporation Headquarters count as wonders in the scoring, so I guess you want to get them all.

Arrghh!

Been playing for days and finally had an absolutely sweet game going, only to trigger domination with about 200 turns left to go. I was already on FT44 so it would have been nice. I was doing a tech per turn at 0% science. I am ready to try again having learnt a great deal. I am not two frustrated as I was flirting wit the 55% land limit for a long time, plus I submitted for the HOF. I got greedy going for cereal mills and Aluminum Co. resources which lead me deep into Sumerian territory. His creative trait was too much to keep only the few cities I wanted with the resources. I ended up founding Creative Construction to combat it and eventually when he become a vassal, the two cities culture popped out of nowhere! I won, or lost I should say, with a 61.55% dom limit. What I should have done was razed all his cities with my MI and MI when I first invaded, but I thought his culture would keep me in check...and it did. Still, I might like to go up against some creative civs next time too.

Gandhi asked me very early to be my vassal and was on the top of the continent leaving me to conquer Justinian and eventually Zulu. Gandhi was great for building up culture on our border. Vassals are great for demanding the resources you want. I will go for more vassals next time.

PS...is there something up with the server? I have been getting errors when trying to submit both in the forum and on the HOF site.

Finally finished. Got up to FT 30 or so but only had just over 5000 pts. Was no where near domination or anything, had about 30% both land and population. It was definitely fun!

Still going, 124 turns to go, up to future tech 30+. Thinking about building up some military for the last turn now. This is really tedious, but it's ok.

It was tedious but I had all cities on research the last 50-60 turns and just kept hitting the turn button. Only think slowing me down was the random events.

I'm playing warlords so no random events. Also building research everywhere, still one FT every other turn, with an occasional 1 turn one. Just need to keep going I guess, and hope the game is accepted despite my 2 crashes. Just broken the 10000 points barrier. Looking like a mid-table finish for me if it is accepted. Got some spies scouting, should easily be able to take all the AI cities on the last turn if I declare war on them say 20 turns from the end. My only worry is vassal Roosevelt sneaking in to an unoccupied city and pushing me over dom limit. So I plan to decalre on Saladin early so he can finish of Roose for me.

One of the things I think I learned from my Time games before this Major... NO Vassals.. NO Colonies. They get you into more trouble than they are worth, and actually can reduce your score.

Whoops, posted this in the wrong gauntlet thread before. It was supposed to refer to this GMajor20:

Woohoo! In my second attempt at this, I have managed my first ever Civil Service slingshot. I know it's only Warlords level, but at least I can now see how it is done. I am using Suryavarman of the Khmer this time.

@shyuhe - how many extra points did you get from the settler spam last turn? IIRC, you won't get any extra land points as you have to have the land for a set period of time, so you'll just get the extra population points.

I just did a test with my Duel save posted a few pages back. I started the game, hit return twice and checked the score.

Then I quit the game and restarted with the saved game. This time I settled one of the settlers, then return twice to finish the game. The second one had a higher score by 40, but it was all in population, the Land score did not change even though the new city did control a new 3x3 area.

That means that it may be best not to leave large empty areas to be settler spammed, but to let opponents expand into the areas, and take their cities the last turn for max population points.

Was the 40 points for just 1 pop, or was it for the 1 pop and any specialist from the new city?

Whoa, from reading up above, I get the impression that vassals count towards your land area. Is this true?

Also, how the heck do you stop your GPs from switching to ones you don't want? I hate micromanaging 50+ cities to make sure I am not running Spies or Merchants when I want science. Any advice on that? Is it from adjusting the slider or what?

Did we ever end up with a definitive answer on the turn in which to settle en masse?

I've been playing a different time game for ages (Warlord, Standard) and don't want to blow it now with a shot at the Vanilla highscore.

You should get the countdown messages. 100 turns left, 99 turns left etc. When it says one turn left, you can exceed the domination limits or conquer your last opponent etc, and you will still get a time victory. This will be turn 2049 in Vanilla or Warlords, turn July 2049 in BTS.

What we are discussing is what you can do on the last turn that will improve your score.

I'm an idiot.
In my second try, for some stupid reason, I took 2 vassals.
And now I'm at 59.49% land.
If any of those 2 idiots founds or takes a city, I get a domination victory.

With 200 turns to go, I cannot see which miracle would lead me to a time victory.
And this being warlords I can't even try to liberate cities

You get 50% of your vassals land and pop score. I am not sure about wonders and tech.

There are emphasis buttons for the governor. They are below the rush buttons on the city screen.

I put my governor on Great People and Science.. he still made Engineers and Priests. Checking all the cities and changing the new specialists to scientists is the most tiresome aspect of this game

Cabert, can't you give a city away to one of the AIs? I have had to do this twice so far in my game.

I have a sort of similar problem though, when I declare war on everyone near the last turn, I need to make sure that Roosevelt doesn't nip in and grab a city, and I may even have to watch that no-one takes Roosevelts only city which could push my border out a bit more. I think I am 20 tiles under the limit at present, but I just built a city on a 1 tile thin island.
