G-Major 20

well, it's no consolation at all for being dumb.
I've already played for time victory starting from ancient, but not on epic speed!
If I get time to play again, I'll keep a larger margin and won't accept any vassal.

I'm pretty sure turning the vassalage option off is legal for HoF games; assuming I'm not completely misremembering, I turn it off for almost all of mine.

Heh, another accidental domination win here. Stupidly captured one of Hannibal's cities by mistake, it had a SAM infantry in it so I thought I'd better kill him.

He recaptured it the next turn. It was a size 19 city, on top of Uranium, and he RAZED it ! AI = :smoke:

2 turns later, nothing much I could do to avoid the win. I could have gifted Saladin another city (already gifted him my Island city), but my other Island city only covered 2 tiles.

I'm going to submit it anyway, see if it gets accepted with the 2 crashes. I still need Epic speed/Warlords level/Russia for my QM lists.

Bahhhh
I made all the calculations, but i missed some...
I'm close to the dom limit, and there's nothing i can do to avoid it before the end.
But i've learned this: a city on the 3rd level of culture is 35 tiles, equal to 1.84% in a large map with 60%.
So, before to take a city, you must consider this, since in a short time it reaches this level.
Next expansion has to be considered if it's a border city, otherwise it doesn't count much.
To be safe, you can add this value to the % you already own, plus some % for the high culture expansions here and there.

Another thing i've learned is that found a corporation which competes with one already present, removes this one, so if you found corps only for wonder score, you must do it where it has less impact.

Maybe i'll try one last time.

I can't believe I'm still in 2nd with only 52% dom limit and 185 FT's. Guess there was something to having a continent under the limit by about 10 tiles - no incentive to spread further and risk the dom win that's been plaguing otherwise great attempts.

 Crashed again. At least this time I had auto-save set to 1. I'm on pace for almost 400 FT this game (the speed picked up a lot faster than I thought it would). The funniest part is that of the 4 remaining AI, 3 are on strike  The 4th is at 10% research and needs another 200 turns or so to finish researching steam power (I'm in the mid 1900's). I feel bad for abusing the AI like this :mischief:

Since it seems we only get points for late added pop, not land, has anbody tried letting the AI's build big cities and then taking them on the last turn? That would be better than settler spamming for only 1 pop/city, no?

sounds good.
you could even spam a food corporation to them and trade them happiness and health resources.

That's actually what I'm aiming for. In my hammering of Ramses and Charlemagne, I'm not razing food resources and I'm figuring on taking them all on the last couple turns (they won't come out of anarchy quick enough to border-pop me over the Dom limit). If I could build farms for them I would - they keep making cottages though, so I've taken all their workers.

That was my plan as well, just get all the armies in place to (a) destroy all the enemy troops and (b) capture all their cities on the last turn, like IglooDude I was leaving their food resources and pillaging everything else.

I didn't realise that HOF games aren't accepted if you have more than 1 crash though... that should be in the FAQ. I played on for at least 10 hours after the second crash, the whole game took 50hrs total. I won domination by accident anyway, but it would have been nice to get my epic speed game out of the way. I play slowly so I'm not a fan of epic (unless I can win quickly) and marathon is just like torture.

Well I'm a complete sucker and decided to have another shot at this!

Decided to give Justinian a go for some serious settler spamming and filling in of QM requirements. I've got 350 turns to go and have just hit the teens in future techs, hopefully go close to 300. I've built all my shrines and just need one more GS for last corporation. I'll have only not built one wonder and I will capture that soon. At 50% land, so not much more expansion but already have a large group of cities with populations in the high 30s (should have 20 or so in the 40s by the end of the game).

Hopefully add a couple of thousand points on my first attempt.

I'm not really enjoying this gauntlet, but I'll finish the game I started.

I'm impressed by the size of Ozbenno's cities!

I've got about 300 turns to go and am at future tech 52, with a research rate at about 80% of the cost of a FT. Biggest city is size 33 and have 45% of the land area.

My opponents are researching physics and steampower etc so I suppose that means I should get my tanks out again. It's pretty tedious moving all those units around...

Are you using spies to get this information?

Are playing Vanilla, Warlords or Beyond the Sword?

This gauntlet is just an exercise in patience... I hope my game gets accepted :please:

I played bts. With enough espionage points, you can see what's going on inside AI cities. I don't see why you would not play bts for this gauntlet. The food corps let you grow your cities to silly levels. I had a bunch of size 40 cities at the end and I was spamming 1 tile cities to further increase my pop.

I have to agree. I just hope I won't run out of patience. I don't have bts (yet) so I'm playing warlords. 1500AD now, half of the AIs still alive, 1st tanks on their way to battlefield. I don't care if I end up at the bottom of the list, I just want to be able to finish it and move on to a better game.

37 turns to go. I only have an hour or two a day to play this week, so not sure if I'll get it done before the weekend. Over 300 FT, should end up close to 350.

I have most of one civ's cities empty now, working on number 2. Then I need to declare war on Gandhi. I hope to have a unit parked outside empty cities on the last turn. But I'm afraid I pillaged the health resources so their cities may not be very big. It's going very slowly as I have to make sure I don't accidently attack a city with a tank that only has one unit left, or pass a tank through an empty city. All of my units are stealth bombers, modern tanks, or gunships, fighting riflemen at best so far.

I just realised I can't raze the other continent because I peacefully vassalised Izzy a long time ago, and she loves me too much and is too scared to break free. So I'm going to have to periodically raze the AI's cities on the other continent to prevent them going to space...

Which leads me to the question, what effects does razing the capital city of another civ have on their spaceship?

None really. All parts already built are kept. I actually won a game by builbing my lat spaceship part the IBT my last city got taken over, so got a spaceship win and conquest loss in the same turn.

Spies are best to sabotague any SS parts being built.

Four turns to go. I was nearly in some serious problems as my mobile artillery unit accidentally took Charlie's capital (with shrines) with 15 turns to go and 2.5% under the Dom limit, but the turn it got out of anarchy a revolt sent it right back in. ~170 FTs, ~16K pts at the moment. Should have held off on beating Charlie down a few dozen turns ago, he refused to give me any rice ever since and my corp cities have been slowly starving.

What version are you playing? In bts, they restored the feature where razing their capital destroys their SS. I think this applies even if they have launched but have not yet arrived at alpha centauri.

edit: My game is accepted! :woohoo:
