For some reason, my game has been running slowly lately. The unit movements are slowed down and the gap between turns has been taking a while. Not to mention initially loading the game. The only things I can think of that might be slowing it down is that I just made a new mod and that I just installed MacOsX 10.3.3. Anybody have this prblem before? Know any solutions? Thanks.

Pretty common on large and huge maps. I'm assuming you're running Civ3 version 1.21g, correct? If so, how long? What are your machine specs? I'm using 10.3.3 and haven't experienced anything unusual. Can you provide a little more information, such as is it during the entire game or just later in the game?

I've been using a standard size map with 4 total civs. Yes, it is 1.21g. What did you mean by "if so, how long?" It's just the Vanilla version, not PTW or C3C. My computer's a G4 iMac with a 700 MHz processor and 640 MB ram, so I don't think that's the problem. THe slow speed has been happening all throughout the game, not just in the beggining or a good ways into it.

I used to get slow-downs with 1.21g. I don't see them now, with 1.29b2.

The 1.21g patch increased the recommended RAM from 64 to 128. If you had just upgraded from 1.16f or 1.17f, and you had less total RAM, I'd point to that as the reason. I recommend moving up to 1.29b2. You can find it here.

I have 1.29b2, but the editor doesn't work with it (it's like that for everyone right?) so I've kept it down to 1.21g for the last few weeks while I've been modding. I'll either try giving it more RAM if I can or when I'm done modding, I'll upgrade to 1.29b2. Thanks for your help.

Yep, that's right.

If you have enough spare disk space I'd recommend using two copies of Civ. One 1.29 version for playing and one 1.21 version for modding. That way, you can use the editor and get all the new and shiny features while playing. :)
