Game Tracking Thread

Well this just doesn't seem right, we got burned when the game crashed on us before we could log in at the end to do our set. And then now I log in and we're already forwarded all the way to turn 85.

The admins could choose to rectify this with another restart to the same or an earlier point. It is a result of a technical problem and not turnplayer error, but it would result in turning the clock back on possibly played turns, so I can't just decide to do that on my own. Up to you to ask for it if you want it. I can't do anything with it until about 5:30 my time tonight.

The Civstats page says the uploader is currently disconnected, so perhaps Dave has not resolved the problem yet.
The game should be up, but I must have overlooked restarting the civstats uploader. Likewise I can't start it until 5:30 or so.

You had 34 hours of uptime when you could have played the turn. It does suck missing the last 6 hours due to the crash, but I don't think it's bad enough to order another reload.

The civstats uploader was not restarted with the game so some of us were not sure if the game was restarted and from what point.

So reload from last turn with the uploader connected is required.

P.S It is common courtecy in every pitboss game to pause the game when it is reloaded a few hours before turn roll to allow for time to play in case the reload does not happen in your time zone.

Ok, I agree that this reload was pretty sloppy.

Who needs to play after AlphaShard's autosave?
Merlot, AMAZON, and CDZ ended turn.

That leaves Quatronia, Mavericks and Sirius that have to get their turns in the 6-hour window?

Y'all might be making an assumption about when the reload can be done.

I found my computer powered off, which has delayed things a little -- but I can squeeze it in before leaving for my coaches meeting.

Pausing might be "customary" but in this environment we have a rule that says a team can be penalized for pausing. Maybe that rule wasn't such a good idea in retrospect?

Edit: unfortunately the ship has sailed on that autosave. The game only saves ONE autosave per player, and Alphashard has logged in again since the game was restarted -- as has every other regular turnplayer. The available choices are now the autosave for 0750 BC, this morning at 5:48, and an autosave by Adi, the turn before 0750, taken on 8/29 at 11:52 AM. The Adi save was the one just before the Alphashard save.

Maybe I should try to squeeze in some programming time, to write a sweeper program that captures older versions of autosaves for this purpose. I took the precaution just now of renaming that Adi save, just in case.

I have left the game down to get comments on which save to start from. I'll be gone an hour or so, and will be up until midnight.

Both of Dave's other hosted games have just gone down as well, so I presume either it's a server issue or he's doing some maintenance. I'll PM him to let him know.

AlphaShard and I are the turnplayers for Sirius. I don't think we did anything the last turn that can't easily be repeated. I would vote for the Adi autosave.

Oops, the last page of comments didn't appear for me until I posted this for some reason. Never mind. ;)

Adi autosave sounds fine.

Please do pause the game after reloading, and again after hitting end turn (Sirius and Quatronia). No one is going to be charged with timeouts for that.

If you think that ther is need for a reload from an older save, try and use a different name when you log in just in case, since that means if there are problems, then things can go back to the old save. I think this is good practice for a gam such as this, due to the magnitude it causes when things go bad.

I'm curious what was going on with that issue that blocked others from logging in when someone was already into the game. I don't remember that complication before in the beginning. I guess it was part of the same problem?

It's up now. Don't know what was up with that issue.
Edit: paused per DaveMcW's comment. ~11 hours on the clock which should be plenty but given time zones let's be safe.

Interesting, obsolete has logged in a couple of times since the server was brought back up, and that's the team we're now waiting on.

DaveMcW: Should it be unpaused now that all teams have had a chance to login? The clock is at 10:45.

Looks from Civstats like the other two games are down too. PMing Dave.
