Nubia confirmed?

It looks like units are now grouped into armies and battles are resolved similarly to Humankind.

From the steam page:
“Move your army as one under the leadership of a commander”

This sounds like war will be a lot less tedious for 1UPT

The screenshots look like 1upt. I wonder if civ7 will do like Humankind and let you move units as a stack but them spread out in 1upt for combat? Or maybe adjacent units can move together with a commander, so still 1upt but just units move together?

I'm imagining the Commander is just like a Governor you pick... Maybe you pick a Parliament or Advisors of sorts.. and they just give you bonuses.

I’m hoping a you can group units together to a be defined as a cohesive army, but move them around together like a moving carpet. I actually love the geographical tactics component of 1UPT, but I absolutely hate trying to move 20 warriors at a time.

The image in the OP looks like it has swordsmen, archers, and a leader of some kind in the middle, all in the same tile.

Looking at this screenshot, it does look like 3 units grouped together with a commander in the middle. We can see an archer unit in the back and 2 melee units in the front. We've also seen screenshots of units spread out when fighting. So it does look like a prettier version of HK where you group units together to move but fight in 1upt.

Looks a lot like Humankind graphics-wise. I like that is seemingly a nice mix between the more realistic graphics of V and cartoony like VI.

Interested to see the actual mechanics.

They obviously threw in navigable rivers in the trailer to appease a good portion of the fandom. Got a kick out of that.

I love this. It will allow players to customize the type of army leader they want. I also like that some promotions apply to non combat. So you can use army leaders to buff unit production or city yields when not in combat, sort of like a military leader being stationed as a governor of a city.

Overall, I like the new combat system. It delivers what I have always wanted, a sense of an army but without the micro of 1upt.
