Gamespot gives Wind Waker Game of the Year

In the Gamespot's Best and Worst of 2003, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker has won the award for best overall game of the year, beating out Dark Cloud 2, Mario & Luigi, Rise of Nations, and Star Wars KOTOR.

Best PS2 Game: Dark Cloud 2
Best PC Game: Rise of Nations
Best Xbox Game: Star Wars KOTOR
Best GBA Game: Mario & Luigi
Best GCN Game: LoZ: WW

Rise of Nations winning PC and Strategy really suprised me, since it was completely drowned out by C&C: Generals and Warcraft3. I haven't played Mario & Luigi yet so I can't judge, but Fire Emblem was nominated in best GBA, story, and RPG. FFTA, Disgea, and Mario Kart all got NO nominations (I don't think FFX-2 or FFXI got any either).

Star Wars KOTOR was a good choice for Xbox GOTY. Rise of Nations, even though lacking in sales, is alot better game then C&C Generals.

Just bought a Gamecube and Zelda, Wind Waker for Xmas, so I've just started to play the game. So far, I have to admit, it's quite excellent!!

Clearly Nintendo is the best game-maker on the market today.

EDIT: I think its been long enough, perhaps a second play through of WW is in order...

Perhaps I'm alone in this, but it seems that Nintendo and SquareEnix release most of the great games. Most of the other really good games are spread out among several different companies.
BTW, who won last year? I only recently started visiting Gamestop regularly.

A couple of months ago, Game Informer made a list of the "Top 50 Games of this Console Generation (Gamecube, X-Box, and PS2)," and LoZ WW took the top spot there as well.

As I expected, Call of Duty, Final Fantasy, and all the others that reviewers bashed but still remain extremely popular won.
No Reader's Choice for Game of the Year though.
