is it just me or has garrisoning a unit become impossible with the expansion?

a unit doesn't automatically garrison the city when i move them onto the city as it used to, and i don't see any button that allows me to actually garrison that unit.

anyone else having this problem?

also, one more question about 'follower beliefs',

are the follower bonuses city-by-city only?
ie) i found christianity in washington with a follower belief being +2 faith per each world wonder - does that mean that my nation, america, gets a +2 faith bonus from cities with world wonders regardless of who owns those cities if they follow christianity?

Watching one of MD's vids and it would appear that 'garrisoning' now is little more than having your unit inside a city. So, that's what counts for the purposes of Oligarchy etc. You don't need to activate any special function.

Someone else with the game will have to answer the religion question you have I'm afraid.

Garrisoning a unit in a city now just involves moving the unit into the city. It was made this way to get rid of the annoying micro involved in:

1. Garrisoning a unit to increase the city damage.
2. Attacking with the city
3. Attacking with the unit.

This has been changed so that you can just:

Attack with the unit/attack with the city in either order and not have to worry.

Are you sure about this? I only played for an hour, but I thought when you had a Melee unit in town that the garrison icon appeared, but it did not appear with a ranged unit. I just remember seeing it briefly when I had my spearman in town but not with my archers.

[EDIT] I was mistaken, I had a chance to log a few more hours last night and you are correct there is no longer a Garrison option.

Let's face it, it had to be a bug or exploit that a ranged unit could attack and increase the damage output of the city depending on the order of attacks.

I love this fix, I found the micro-ing of garrison-fire with city-fire with ranged unit to be completely annoying and time consuming. Nice and simple fix.

What does that mean, 'automatically garrisoned'.

Do you still get the happiness benefits from garrisoning?

Any military unit present in a city is that city's "garrison". It doesn't matter if it attacks, fortifies, is passing through, etc. There is no 'garrison' command anymore. It's a good change.

Garrison happiness works. This is actually a really good change as you no longer take a happiness hit for attacking with a garrisoned unit.

The 5 second way to convince yourself of this is watch the city's combat strength before and after you move a unit into it.
