Gathered Statistics

CFC got way cooler now that this is a thread.

Something I dug up myself, too:
# of doctors in the American Medical Association: ~240,000 (2007)
# of physicians & surgeons in the US: 661,400 (2008)
Therefore AMA membership would be about 36% of doctors.

Since this Bureau of Labor stat doesn't include specialists like podiatrists, optometrists, and other medical doctor professions, the actual percentage of doctors in the AMA is necessarily lower. As the article details, membership by med students, residents, and retirees (all non-practicing doctors) dominates the entire population of the AMA.

Statistical review of the number of medical journal authors who are employed as consultants for drug companies, etc... is pretty....ummmm....interesting too. I'll have to look up some stats for that, which interestingly enough, are usually the subject of journal published article

Accuracy in the video game Modern Warfare 2 for the Playstation 3
85% accuracy puts you in the top 10K players.
25% in the top 100K
23% in top 250K
21 in top 800K
15% in top 3.5 million
12 in top 7 million (the dead bottom in reality, slightly over 7 million play)

This is a crosspost from an OT thread, but I felt like it deserved a spot here.

68% of US high school graduates go on to start college.
About 50% of those who enter high school eventually end up going to college.
Three-fifths of new college enrollments are in four-year programs. Two-fifths are in two-year programs.

Sources: the data was pulled from a conglomeration of surveys done by the National Center for Education Statistics, US Department of Education (Common Core of Data) and the Bureau of Labor Statistics, US Department of Labor.

Interesting!

Any source on how many actually graduate?

As posted earlier - about 30% of 25 year olds have 4 year degrees according to my source.

* I am not answering my own question, What does your source say?

(I don't have access to this, saw it on tumblr.)

We find that white men are more willing than white women to date non-whites in general, yet, with the exception of their top two preferences for dates, whites and Latinos, the racial hierarchies of males and females differ. Among daters with stated racial preferences, white men are more likely to exclude blacks as possible dates, while white women are more likely to exclude Asians. We argue that exclusion relates to racialized images of masculinity and femininity, and shapes dating and marriage outcomes, and thus minority groups’ possibilities for full social incorporation.

While this is in no way surprising, it is good to see some hard numbers.

In case you are wondering, I've seen similar studies and I recall that black women and asian men are the most picky almost only going for their opposite gender same "race". Though black women prefer latinos over white men. It was part of a show on 20/20 some7-8 years ago, not sure if I'll be able to dig it up, but will try.

That would be very interesting indeed...

Not quite a statistic, but still pretty numberwang:

Anyone with >50% accuracy in any fps is cheating.

Or doesn't shoot.

There are a lot of "knife only" guys and shield users. Could be that, there is no "at least 100 shots fired" prerequisite

My guess is, the one's with lots of shots, they are corridor campers. They wait around one corner with a shotgun and blast you as you come around. You generally can't miss.

Awww those horrible 1950s in America.

Pretty graph.

[Note to self: recreate that graphic of top marginal tax rate vs revenue share of GDP. Bonus points for time series and scatterplot.]

[edit: my back-of-the-envelope calculation was horribly off. Time to find actual data...]

Sounds cool :)

And no I am not implying I think the top tax rate should be 95% btw

Anyone who does that is terrible at the game anyway.

Texas facts •Texas is the only state in the US that allows its residents to vote from space
•In Texas, you can be legally married by publicly introducing a person as your husband or wife 3 times
•Texas is the only state in the USA to maintain a secession clause in their agreement with the federal government. Texas can declare its independence and become a sovereign nation simply by enacting the provision.
•Despite what Texans want to believe, the previous fact is false, since the original treaty negotiations (which would have supported a secession clause) were ditched in favor of a more traditional annexation agreement
•Texans still proudly insist their state is the largest in the Union, even when confronted by Alaska’s massive size. They justify their claim using the metric, “useful parts of the place accessible by pickup truck.”
