[GS] Gathering Storm Screenshots Discussion Thread

Sure. But then we need good underlying mechanism that other civs just won't accept gifts to improve relationships or accept friendships and alliances and that they won't take even favorable trades in regard to diplomatic favors. iirc civ V had other things than money for diplomacy victory as well, but it didn't matter much in the end - if you were rich enough, you could just buy victory.

Admittedly, civ VI is already much better since you can't buy suzerainship with money. This alone would make it harder to get votes from CS.

It's also weird looking to spam seaside resorts.
Like it or not, a bit of money goes a long way in diplomacy. :)

But it does sound like only part of the equation. Hopefully grievances and diplomatic favour are tied together in some way, i.e. having a ton of grievances has negative impact on your diplomatic favour.

Then it is definitely a Pa (Maori fort). The other improvement is probably a Marae.
Indeed, I regard this riddle as solved.

Maybe similar to an Alcazar? Culture boost plus treated like a fort, I’m sure there would be one more benefit too.

Maybe a +1 to certain districts? Or maybe a negative modifier towards enemies

Pa were the original perfection of trench warfare, which may have inspired the Europeans in WW1 given how successful they were in defence.

That looks distinctly like a Maori Pa, which is a fort with trenches, usually on a hill or small mountain.
That was my first guess, but the steps looked like they were made of stone, so that's why I said Inca as well.
Leave it up to someone from New Zealand to know for sure.

Well, I mean...

Note the squared-off sides. It's almost definitely a Cahokia mound, maybe Monk's Mound when you consider the (anachronistic) stone steps:

I think that is now going to be the Nuclear Power Plant.
Yes, I think it makes sense. Each Power Generation building or improvement will likely require a resource or specific location. Coal for the older looking power plant, Uranium for the Nuclear Plant, Geothermal fissure, Dam on a river for Hydro. The Solar Plant will probably need to be built on Desert tile or something like that and Windmills on the coast or hills.

This one has been bugging me from the first time it was leaked. I think this is a Future Tech Wonder, instead of an improvement or district. It doesn't have the correct color highlights on the buildings to be a water based version of a neighborhood (green roofs) or a science district (more blue).

What is that to the left of the building, the wall like thing?

Note the very end of the cinematic trailer, the people are gazing at a similar island with a dome in the center, albeit the buildings are much taller. I feel like they are related.

To me, it looks very similar to the futuristic city shown at the end of the trailer.

Some kind of futuristic sea-based Neighborhood district?

I agree, future era neighborhood that can be built on water.

I think those are probably the "seasteads" mentioned on the official site.

A new era has been added to the Technology and Civics trees. Combat new environmental effects with speculative ideas such as relocating your population out to seasteads and developing technologies to recapture carbon emissions.

I'm hoping that in the released version they will have the canal graphics only for cities that connect two bodies of water, and not for every coastal city (as it seems to be in the demo). It looks quite jarring and a little silly, especially in an ancient city. And it doesn't look like it will play well at all with the Harbor district graphics.

My first thought when I saw that during the livestream: a stone dock before even researching masonry? It looks very out of place so early in the game.

I trust the art team to get this right before GS is released. The crew working on Civ 6's in game art has been top notch so far.

Yeah, I guess. The part that is bugging me is that they have explicitly trimmed their housing related districts (Dam, Aqueduct and Neighborhood can all be seen in the new screenshots) with green roofed/accented buildings. And this doesn't have any. That's why I feel it has to be something more than just a district. Perhaps the Seastead is a Wonder?

Why do I feel like the Rise and Fall screenshots revealed more new things than these ones?
