[GS] Gathering Storm Screenshots Discussion Thread

The more I look at the structure the more it looks like a bath rather than a temple. Anyone know of any prominent Indian/Tibetan/Nepali/Central Asian/Persian baths that might fit that description?

In the trailer, they have the Maori leader (with his ta moko) sailing towards new land...could this mean that they will have the wayfinding ability after all?
Calling it now: the Maori will have a unique settler unit that can cross ocean tiles from the start. This would avoid stepping on Norway's toes, anyways.

Unique barbarian graphics or am I just seeing things?
unique barbarian graphics exist since rise and fall iirc. scout has a wolf instead of a dog for example.

A unique settler would be almost as disappointing as Tamar's walls, but I admit it would make some amount as sense--and would also make the Maori a probable 2 UU civ.

At present barbarians only have unique Scouts. It looks like they may be getting other unique units now.

They have unique horse archers too.

I'd expect a Unique Naval Unit that can cross early along with the Maori warrior. The Civ ability allowing settlers to enter water without shipbuilding would work also.

I think it might be something Persian. It reminds me of the Apadana in terms of color and style, though maybe something more recent and less ancient.

The only thing I've managed to find so far (after making my eyes sore for staring at rows and rows of domes) is a tiny part of Portugal's Pena Palace that kinda resembles the domed pavilion next to the main building.
Spoiler :

But the rest of it is obviously not the Pena Palace, so... :crazyeye:

Saw the title and felt that I'd be incredibly disappointed if Winston Churchill wasn't in this expansion.

Guess I should explain that it's because the first of his six volume series about WW2, that he authored shortly after the War, was titled:

The Gathering Storm

To add onto this:
It will be part of Kupe's LUA. This leaves some variant of Maori warriors to be the UU and allows the Maori civilization itself to have a more war focused theme, while still incorporating the traditional ocean crossing aspect of Civ 5's Polynesia.

The Temple/Fortress looks Central Asian to me, but since it clearly isn't found that easily I get the feeling it doesn't exist anymore or is a ruin nowadays.
Found a few candidates on thee UNESCO Heritage Sites.
Parthian Fortress in Nisa (Turkmenistan)
Erk-Kala in Merv (Turkmenistan)
Takht-i-Bahi in Sahr-i-Bahlol (Pakistan)
Needs more exploring but found some architecture especially in Turkmenistan that showed some resemblance.

My First thought was it reminded my of one of the Prayer Halls in Lahore but a bit more colourful

I think one of the volcanoes in the screenshot is Mt. Vesuvius.

The tiles around it could be a part of the natural wonder itself, or the aftermath of the volcanic eruption.
I was wondering if Eyjafjallajökull will be turned into a proper volcano as well.
