So now there are 10 confirmed unique units, instead of the stated 9 from the press release. Further evidence that Firaxis' marketing folks can't count, and that any analysis based the unit/building/etc. numbers in the press release is worthless. :(

I think the argument is the Janissary wasn't counted as a 'new' unit as it's already in the Poland scenario.

Supposedly there are still 3 non-unique units unaccounted for, but we can't even depend on that...

At this point I am assuming they counted scenario related units....

Let's not blame marketing. Marketing's job is to ask "how many new assets are being added to the game?" Then the dev team tells them and marketing includes that in the press release and the promo pitches.

Also between making that announcement and now, things might have changed with the development of the game

It's unlikely that they decided to add new units at the last minute. Although for something like the Janissary, maybe they initially didn't have it included, and then decided they wanted to give the Ottomans a little extra, and already had the model sitting around...

It's convenient to blame marketing, because they're not really... y'know... human beings.

That's engineer talk. It warms my mathematical heart.

Or tried counting on their fingers using Base 12 math . . .
You are surely talking about the next type of humans, who are using their primary thumb to hold the device & practise shift/control modifiers and their secondary thumb to make wipe gestures on it ... Evolution @ work!

This is actually quite simple: you just count joints rather than digits. Used that for a culture that uses base-12 in one of my books. ;)
