Gator01 - 100K or Bust

I woke up this morning to 10" of new snow on top of the 8" we had yesterday. Making it worse was the 25-40 mph winds. I'm already tired of winter and I have 5 months more of it to look forward to :crazyeye:
I'd get the wood stove fired up, place my computer nearby and start a nice emporer game! :mischief: Sounds like really nice weather to me!! :D

Sorry. I got playing GOTM and the opportunity slipped.

I'll definitely post saves tomorrow.

jb reporting for duty.

When we gunna built some of that culture stuff?

I haven't been able to make a scenario out of the save file. Probably because it's such an old version.

Why don't we just play it? It'll run on PTW after all. No need to do anything fancy with it is there?

Thanks MB, after creating my first scenario I am learning alot about the time it takes to do that. I think we should start, by using the original save. I got to thinking later that if we added the units to the Civ III version we really would not be able to compare our results to the original game. Now, Team B & C can compare against each other, and Team A can compare against the original game since there are no modifications.

I'll setup the individual threads for Team B & C and we can get rolling. So that we don't get spoiler info if someone from Team B & C will pm me when they reach the end of QSC and AA we can decide about opening up the other teams threads (like we did last game).

Good luck and have fun.

Civ3 Game of the Month VII: May 2002

It's time for the first Deity game now. I've made the world completely random, yet I've played some turn and I think it's quite doable. And if it isn't, you certainly won't be the only one who loses. So just give it a shot, ace.
Here are the detailed Game Parameters:

Civilization: Iroquois
Leader: Hiawatha
Difficulty Level: Deity
Land Form: Random
Land mass: Random
Map Size: Standard
Rivals: 7 Random Rivals
Climate: Random
Temperature: Random
Earth: Random
Barbarians: Random
Victory Conditions: All

Here is the 4000BC Save

This game plays as a vanilla Civ III game (no addons required).

Team A (Civ III)
AlanH
DJMGator13
Mistfit
Tomoyo
leif erikson
Nikof

Time to set the roster order and discuss the opening moves.

Wow.. did my 100k victory in gotm35 make it to 6th spot in top 100k wins?

I only made it to 40th spot on list that month, and since it was my first ever 100k game I made lots of mistakes that prolly cost me around 50 years on the victory date :crazyeye:

A medal & a 1420AD date is great, Gyathaar. I've not been bold enough to try a 100K in a GOTM yet. Maybe after this game I might have enough knowledge to try one. My only GOTM medal came when I was the only person to milk the demigod game awhile back. BTW, great last set in our SID game.

I think only a few of us on Team A have done 100K games so keep an eye on us.

Okay, opening moves: I am leaning toward moving the worker southeast, and settling on the spot. It is only two water tiles and in a 100K, that hardly matters.

Hi Everyone. :wavey:

Reading the link Gator provided from SirPleb, it sounded to me like expansion is the first priority. It would be nice to find some fresh water? ;)

Opening Moves. It looks to me as though we are on a penninsula that has salt water around the northern sides. I'm thinking the Scout moves two squares to the south, onto the hill. If we don't see anything, perhaps the worker to the west, onto that hill. If we don't see anything advantageous, then we might consider settling on the spot.

imho, the disadvantage to the start location is that it looks like we will have some water tiles to the northeast, east and, perhaps the southwest, with no option to build a harbor and make them more productive later.

Oh. Oops. I forgot we had a scout. I doubt we'll find anything better in the immediate surroundings though...

I like the scout S S as leif said but I would take the worker N instead of W. With the scout already going S the worker W would only clear fog from 1 additional land tile, while taking him N would clear at a minimum 4 land tiles.

Worker N could also help to confirm penisula and if there is limited land that way. Looks like a rough start for RCP. We may need to consider a free palace jump later.

On the roster how about:

AlanH (our UK friend could paly the first 20 before we awake Saturday)
Tomoyo
Gator - trying to finish COTM07 (before relatives come to town)
Nikof - working to get a better connection (might be a skip?)
leif
Mistfit - temp away

Hi :wavey:

I'm happy to take it first, though I have to play 10 on our Xteam game first, so you might not get it until Saturday evening east coast time. Is that OK?

I agree on the scouting moves - S, S for the scout, N for the worker, and then play it by ear.

If that's the case I can take it now...

Although I'd probably mess up... :(

4000BC: Scoutsouth. Worker southeast. Nothing interesting. Found on spot. Game to the north. Start scout. Research off on Warrior code. Scout sees a goody hut.

3950BC: Hut is empty.

3750BC: Scout – scout

3650BC: Actually I want a granary.

3600BC: Get 25 gold from a hut. I’m not liking this. Set research at minimum to Alphabet.

3400BC: Meet the Russians. They are up Bronze working, Masonry, and Warrior Code.

3050BC: Granary - Warrior

The worker is unmoved. Decide whether to go chop the furs, improve the BG, or chop the game.
