KA01 saw two adventurous teams take on the task of duplicating a 1275AD deity space launch from GOTM20. As it turns out both teams missed this goal but in a weird twist they achieved the same 1445AD launch date. Armed with knowledge gained from that try they turned their discussion towards an attempt at a 100K game.

That is where we find ourselves today. AlanH was kind enough to put together a list of the top 100K finishes from the xOTM series. I have listed only the GOTM ones below, leaving out the C3C ones, so that our Mac friends can continue to play.

Please check in and then we need to decide which game to replay. My personal though is that the #30 to #35 are probably too recent to try replaying. Having never played a 100K game, I am leaning towards the Emporer level GOTM24. I think diety (#14) might be too tough for a first attempt at a 100K game. Besides #24 gives us the fastest date to take on.

hmm Cultural Koreans...could be interesting. One question though. How is the mod going to work. I've got my standard Vin Civ for GK's Tdg - and my Modded Vin Civ for the SGOTM. Would this mean I'd need a thrid install of Vin Civ? I don't know if my tired old deck will handle another version of Vin Civ.
 
I haven't looked that far. I'm hoping MB and Alan have all those answers since they are our resident mod gurus. I did not play #24 originally, but I would think our Mongol gameset would be OK since that was #25. We'll get that straight before we start.
 
Interesting thing about 24 is that there was only one other person that pulled off the 100,000 culture win besides Adells awesome finish. That was gerdy who finished it in 1830 for the slowest 100K victory. oh yeah and there was someone named captain chaos who managed a 100K loss in in 1808.

If we do indeed decide on 24 as our game our start will be very important as Adell placed 3rd on the QSC that month.
 
Hi, I'm in. I already indicated that I'm happy with any of the above starts. I've played all the maps relatively recently, except 6 and 18, but I played 24 in MB01 from a different start, as the Mori instead of Korea.

The GOTM 25 configuration should work fine if you still have it. I don't know whether anyone's noticed, but I've now created an all-in-one vanilla Windows installer to match the one I produced for Mac OS. It's a 22 MByte download, but it will set you up to play any game - random, old gotm, new gotm, new sgotm, and bluebox scenario. It plays current gotm/sgotm and random games with no tweaks, and there are just three resources graphics files to swap if you want to play a gotm or sgotm between 20 and 31 inclusive or a bluebox scenario.

I did not realize it did all that. I'll definately get it, especially if we keep playing some of the older GOTMs.

EDIT: Nice job Alan :goodjob: I downloaded it and it works great. I was able to open my previous GOTM games, our Jumpmaster game and KA01 without having to change any resource files. Very cool to be able to start a new game playing those civs also.
 
Hi, there -and thanks to Gator for his PM.

Unfortunately, it is still a bit too early for me to engage in another game, so I will grudgingly have to leave that reserved slot... :ack:

24 looks like an interesting game, and the date is a real challenge, so it may be the best pick. 18 was also nice to play, and the 100k date should be reachable both for the difficulty level and for the Pangea setting.

As luck would have it... SGOTM 6 will be a 100K played as the Celts. (You heard it here first. ;) ) So I would rather not use the Celt Map. The babylon game has been played as a SGOTM as has the Korean game. However, if we were to play the Korean game from the original start, then I would be happy to play it. It is a classic game.
 
Hi all, I'm in of course, it might help my quest for the 100k award in CotM. ;)

I'd rather not play the 24 map, since the map is still very clear in my memory, and for me one of the aspects of what I like most about Civ is exploring the new world. I even played 31 as a 100k game (1710AD my date was... :blush: ). But I'll go with the majority.
 
Would we lose comparability if we used the settings from #24 but generated a new map?
 
I believe we would loose the comparison with a new map. With the list of players here and the fact that we are doing it as a SG, I think that 14 on deity is do'able. I personally can't remember ever playing a game as the Bab's. Wasn't KA01 on Deity? I don't remember feeling that one was over hard for us.
 
Correct Mistfit, KA01 was deity as well. GOTM37 is also, so I think most of us are comfortable at that level. So #14 is not out of the picture. If 100K is doable on deity that would work, being able to double the neareast civ in culture is where I see a potential problem on deity.

@space - I'm sure we could find someone to take a look at a map for us.
 
I didn't play SGOTM01 and I couldn't get to the announcement page. I was trying to eliminate replayed maps so the game had a fresh feel to it. So that would limit #14, and that is the one Cracker used in his WA article.
 
Why don't we see what the others think as well. Who knows ainwood might already have another similar map from when #24 was setup originally. Another option is that we can always up the level on one of the other games.
