GeneralMatt's Creation Thread

Ok, it was you. :p

So you want the last one?

Also, I think that Russia is the only major ww2 civ missing a BB in the game
Not so... the French and Italians have no Civ4 models for their battleships (and if they are out there please point them out). Both of those navy's capital ships saw more combat then the Russian ones (especially the Italian Navy)... and yet nobody has made any Italian or French WW2 battleships... :(

I think Matt has some unfinished business still to do first though! :mischief:

GeneralMatt - the Oktyabrskaya Revolyutsiya (Gangut) would be my preferred version but which ever one is easier for you. As long as it is the ww2 bent stack version I am happy.

Wolfshanze - your actually correct....I never noticed that the Italians were also missing a BB in the game...and they were a major player in the naval wars. I am guilty of thinking about US, Japan, UK and Germany when picturing the great naval battles of WW2

As for France :undecide: ..... I am trying to work out who scuttled their ships faster when at war....Russia or France??? :suicide:

General Matt... I know exactly what he's talking about... when you look-up these ships, you have to remember they are WWI Dreadnoughts that were modernized between the wars... any picture where all the funnels are straight stacks would be a WWI Dreadnought picture... any picture where one or more of the stacks are "bent" at an angle, is post-modernization and the version that saw service (well, anchored-in-harbor patrol) in WWII.

Well to be fair, the French navy in WWII saw more action then the Russian one... they did fire quite a number of salvos at the British!

Also... at least the French had modern battleships (even if they were used mostly against the English)... something the Russians did-not.

 You guys are funny. :p

The touching up on the Iowa is done, per request Wolfshanze. Sorry for the delay, I got in late last night from a friends were we were putting together something of a PC for a friend from our older parts (He does not need it for much) and then today had church and we went skating with some of the members of our church for most of the afternoon..

I wouldn't be laughing too-hard Matt... your Commonwealth buddies in England were the ones running around sinking French battleships.

That is why it is so funny! Yet another war we got to sink their battle fleet. :p

Thanks for the tips all on the Russian Ship, that will help plenty.

LOL....the British were a bit "too" helpful in sinking those French boats.

As for the Russians, it was a case of:
Officer: "Sir we are at war!"
Captain: "Well what are you waiting for, sink the boat before the enemy can shoot at it....damn if I will give those turds the satisfaction!!!!"

In all fairness to the Russians, they were in the process of building new BBs but Barbarossa put a hold to those plans.

An interesting bit of info I read a few weeks ago was that the Sevastopol naval commander was the only person who went against Stalin's 'no provocations' order and actually put the naval forces in the area on high alert on the eve of the attack....when the German bombers came, they put up a good fight. You got to give them credit for that at least ;)

I should actually do the Royal Sovereign class BB, killing two birds with one stone. Ie satisfying m internal crave to do British ships and doing a Russian BB as she was lent to Russia for part of WWII (And I would assume the RN would not look too kindly on her being scuttled. :p)

Just joking of course..

Its poor quality oil thats to blame the poor French gear boxes get stuck in reverse or neutral hence they keep forgetting where they put their ships planes and tanks :D The Brits just happen to find them .

Since we cought upon history...

Well, not a french myself but i think they are being underestimated. France was, is and will be a great power. The British are just lucky. Located on an island, having a powerful navy to pretect it, gives them a great advantage in warfare. It's always been this way (That's why they have never been succesfully invaded, even by the Nazi's war machine in 1940s).

Although i love Russians, their navy in WW1 and WW2 was pretty much garbage material. If it hadn't been for their toughness as a culture...

Indeed, the French were a worthy opponent and a fair ally. If they just did not have at the time such "old" leaders (Not to say they were the only ones with them, the British just had the Channel to not make faults in high command so fatal) they could have given the Germans a fight. Add to that their airforce was not all that great at the start of WWII..

The Brits where not just lucky, Very aggressive Admirals and the industrial revolution combined with the island factor made the RN what it was then. The French Navy was never as aggressive as the RN but still very powerful. WW1 Russian Navy was very militant and had very poor morale after the Japanese mauled them at Tsuhisima, a Japanese Trafalgar. Russian Army though very tough add Stalin to the mix WoW as WW2 proved Russian Navy was under orders not to sortie in WW2 let the Brits run the conveys keep their ships intact.

I think he meant lucky in that they are an island nation.

seitan2102, You do have to remember that it can be a blessing and a curse. They just used the sea to their advantage. They HAD to for survival.

Where's those Austrian Dreadnoughts and Pre-Dreadnoughts you promised Matt? I also don't see any French or Italian WWII battleships yet! Get to work!

Hehe... just kidding... I'll leave you alone for at least 24 hours.

 At the moment I am listening to the Leafs beat the Sens (2-0 atm) and am enjoying the break. ;) :p

I really want to play a MP game on your mod though.. sounds fun.

Edit: Oh yes, a funny coincidence. I was reading through the Victorian age in the book "To Rule the Wave's" on the British Navy. It was talking about it's main competitors, and on one page it mentioned the Iowa and the next the Mikasa! So funny!

Edit: 3-0

Indeed, I sometimes wish so much I lived back in those days. *sigh*. Oh well, what's done is done eh?

Edit: Make that Leafs 5, Sens 0

Matt... I didn't pick those ships out of a hat you know... I actually put thought behind each Pre-Dreadnought class I have asked you to make! With the exception of the Canopus, which was a remake... I probably would have picked Majestic class or something else for England.

Brandenburg, Iowa & Mikasa were all important ships to their navies!
