Not really enough to qualify as a strat question; this is probably going to be a preference thing.

If you go for some kind of Renaissance warfare and do the typical stomp your neighbor or two thing on Pangea, will you bother with getting this after you get the needed military techs? Or just turn down the slider and keep smashing the rest of the people. How about something like continents?

Of course, it depends on the situation, but I'd assume a certain decision happens more than not in your average games. Assume the war on the first target went by easily, and the second target is putting up some resistance while everyone else is catching up.

The other bigger question is Democracy. I often completely ignore this and get annoyed when everyone is going hurr hurr We want Emancipation and I have to trade for it somehow. Honestly, I find this to be the most annoying thing ever!

After going through all these conquests I feel that I have a need to get State Property over anything else, and all these techs get expensive.

Please, no smart-ass responses such as I GET MY REP FROM MIDS WUT IS CONSTITUTION YOU NOOB or OMG THE GAME IZ OVER LOL DEMOCRACY. Take some time to humor a mere mortal if you will. :p

If you want a renaissance war, tech the renaissance military techs first. The improved research rate from picking up these technologies is not enough to overcome the time cost of researching them + probably extra anarchy (non-spi). If you want rifles, go straight to rifling (lib nationalism is OK, since you want that for drafting and/or as a pre-req for getting cuirasser/cavalry tech)...

If your empire is set up in such a way that you can't do that and mount an army in time, it's time to start thinking about a later era war, and hoping you've at least claimed enough land to get away with such a delay.

I've taken a liking to Lib nationalism especially with Marble as opposed to Lib---> Exotic tech since the Taj will finish when I need production and research the most. Though it does leave me things to think about, since my greatest problem post lib is getting the army out in a timely manner.

Later era war, as in Artilery, Infantry? That'd be a pretty interesting game to watch if someone had monster tech that let them reach the Industrial era fast and break out like that.

I've done it a few times on video, though i forget the precise games.

If you want a fast renaissance army, upgrade knights/cuir to cavalry and chain whip cavalry, or alternatively draft spam. Drafting 3 rifles/turn allows 40-50 rifles very very quickly. You should be plenty beyond 10 turns ahead of at least SOME AI if you beeline rifles.

I offer no comment on the rest of the questions but the easy way to deal with everyone else getting Emancipation is to turn up the culture slider. Your theaters will convert that to happiness with a nice multiplier and you won't need Democracy just to get Emancipation.

And a Colosseum or two (or five, six...) will help in this situation as well. :)

Chain whip... For some unknown reason, I get really timid about whipping Cuirs, so just utterly whip the crap out of that cities?

Well, all and all considering drafting and whipping, I think I need to think about getting Globe Theater.

Too much effort to gather up that much spy points to change multiple civs who will change back. If I had time for that, I'm just gonna go smash them and force them to change civics.

Aside from heroic epic and possibly capitol, yes. Any time you have at least some hammers invested to avoid a penalty, whip. If you want to be careful about micro you can probably keep them to mostly 2 pop whips, but that generally isn't necessary.

You will tank yourself for a bit and are gambling on the war succeeding or you're going to lose...but that's a worthy bet as those kinds of heavy #'s generally guarantee you mop through people.

Don't forget captured cities also become whip fodder if you're trying to end the game quickly :).

Spies, spies, spies!

TMIT is right in that to secure peace, you should prepare for war

The BEST way to research Democracy is to let the AI do that for you and then take it from them

UNLESS you are making serious bank and all your enemies (example: Mansa ) are vassaled or you conquered someone on another continent and created a colony and they're providing serious trade and or you have Shaka fighting all your wars for you, etc, etc.

sometimes I dont even research archery, I steal techs from the AIs. They're going to declare war on you at some point anyway, so while they're building chariots and axemen, have spearmen and swordsmen/praets but send your spies out to steal gold & tech... that way when someone you thought liked you suddenly says "I suppose you know, this means war." you can say, "so be it" instead of "WTH?" :king::goodjob:

"Don't forget captured cities also become whip fodder if you're trying to end the game quickly . "

resisting population starves themselves anyway, so fortify with lots of units to end resistance, but whip away before they can die off on their own...

If i haven't used a single golden age and build the Taj Mahal, will I require two great people for my next golden age?

theatres are cheap building to build against unhappiness from Emancipation, keep in mind that Emancipation is tied to number of AI's running it, for each vassal you get free +1 happy, there is ton of happiness from conquers (resources), you have for sure some multipliers in place (forges etc.) for this era I typically have happy cap around 20+ in each city and most of them don't reach the size

As for constitution aka Representation... actually getting it through Mids is much better then to tech the Tech and I usually ignore the line/back trade it from vassals and go directly Rifling->Steam Power->AL after cuirassiers attack.

no

only when you GA with a GP

I use my Priests and Artists since they're mostly useless in the late game:goodjob:

A land neighbor switching to emancipation is pretty much a declaration of war as far as I'm concerned
