Ghandhi (EC) Emperor Cookbook! Let the fun begin.

Played a quick shadow to 1500 BC.

Spoiler :

The whole epic speed part makes this a bit too easy to wreck the AI...

Settled in place, settled the horse city after finding horses. I then spotted Monty's border to the north and made a quick strike at his cities. Took Teotihuacan with 1 chariot  Although in hindsight I should have razed that junk city... I then nabbed some free workers (and settler) and mounted a stack of 10 chariots. I assaulted a Tenochtitlan that had 3 archers and took it with 5 chariots left. I had a few turns to 1500 BC so I just set the slider to 0%. A settler is almost ready in Delhi to go grab something - probably the jungle to the south since barb cities popped up to the east and west.

I saw that Toku had gems and Monty had silver - perhaps all the AI got the bonus of precious metals in their capitals? :mischief:

Yeah, got the -1 ding from everyone for taking out Monty.

Are there any minimum player requirements for playing along? Noble is about as high as I play regularly. I've dabbled with Prince, but Monarch? <.<...oh boy...the pain...

No player requirements, you can try this at whatever level you want... it's for learning purpose.

@Shyuhe
Spoiler :
Epic really makes it a dungload easier... if I put the AI too far, there's too much room to expand. If they're too close, they're too easy to rush unless I take away every metal, which doesn't make grounds for comparison with most normal games.

Anyhow, I think the save selected should be a peaceful one to see what will happen onwards. That'd be fun, wouldn't it? :D

Looking forward to this. Warrior move looks pretty obvious but after Kossins tricksy ways last map I might have to try a gamble instead. Settler move looks to be tempting depending on what turns up when Warrior is moved.

Probably just shadowing as I've got my immortal win badge, 1280AD AP win (stupid AP, feels like a really cheap win) which would have been earlier if I hadn't started a war just after I'd won the leadership, was miles ahead anyway though. It's the Immortal starts I have trouble with at the moment, the AI come flying out of the blocks and if I can't block or rush it's a nightmare (and sometimes rushing causes even bigger problems if it leaves loads of space for one AI to expand). Sure I'll get there though, should probably turn off events and huts to make it a bit easier while I learn.

Hi all! :D

I had to abort the previous EC game, but now I've a new laptop all for it! :king::goodjob:

(by the way: it's a Intel Core 2 Duo T6600, 4 GB RAM DD3, HD 7200 rpm, ATI radeon HD4570 with 512 dedicated, Windows 7 HP 64 bit.... it's just a PLEASURE play with high resolution and extremely quick!!!).

I'll play the round soon :)

No worries on language. i am English and I struggle at times. Theres a lil paperclip symbol above where you write your messages on here. You should be able to upload the saves from your PC. Just remember to rename it with your name.

Welcome to the forum. This lot dont bite.

Hi guys,

This is my first Cookbook game, i am a comfortable monarch level and just starting emperor player myself.

I think my game went pretty good so far, see what you think.

Spoiler :

Moved Settler 1 west to settle on the plains hill.

early tech went

Hunting => AH => BW => Wheel => pottery => writing

Delhi built a worker, then a warrior and a few more hammers into another warrior whilst waiting for it to grow to size 3.

Started first Settler at 3025 BC when delhi grew to size 3

Got BW a few turns before the settler finished, seeing no copper around decided to settle bombay on the horses/sheep/marble site to the north at2675 BC.

Built a couple more warriors whilst delhi grew to size 4, then started on a second worker followed by a second settler

I found the copper site near the mongols and settled my 3rd city on the copper/pigs/cow site.

At 1500BC I have 3 cities that all look like pretty strong production cities, i am planning an invasion, probably on tokugawa as my cities mostly block off the land from the civs to the north.

All cities now have barracks and i am pumping out some axemen after building a few chariots for pillaging purposes.

i have just started teching mathematics as i am planning to beeline currency, building wealth looks like it will be very useful for my hammer rich cities to keep the economy afloat.

The series has helped me immensely.

My 1500 attempt, haven't looked at the others but I can't actually see me losing from here so should probably be a shadow although I'm including the save.

Spoiler :
Started 1 W, gamble seems to have paid off as closing off the Southern part of the continent seems easy. As soon as I met Toku I knew an early rush was likely (Did you give him a jungle trim Kossin or is that part of the map generator?). Grabbed SH with only one chop, had nothing else important to build and it came in earlier than building the monument in my second city :crazyeye: Production is massive where we are.
Second city site was to grab horses for chariot rush, Toku has copper so I'm expecting to face archers and axemen mostly (Civ AI tends to ignore spears I find). Flanking 2 and bonus against Axemen should make the war easy. Second city also has the bonus of securing a little more land. Toku has kindly gifted some city ruins on our border although could conquer for the block since events are off. Toku is already in War mode so taking himout is inevitable anyway, just got in there before he did.
Once his capital is gone the Gems should ensure easy early teching and a comfortable win unless Kossin has hidden some funny tricks or I've misjudged AI locations (even is there are one or two more in the South I haven't seen their borders down there so should easily be able to secure plenty of land.
Failure gold from GW to finance War and teching (wasn't really after it, close neighbours should significantly reduce Barb issues). Little Great Prophet for settling probably (Toku hasn't grabbed a religion I think) although with marble there may be an outside chance at the Oracle (looking back that would have been a better shout than teching Iron Working, good old hindsight. Think it is because I never consider it as a reasonable gamble when I'm trying to beat immortal).
Watch out for the Barb near the capital, chariot will be built soon so won't be a problem unless you miss him wandering in.

Not sure what you are spoilering here :p

Epic speed throws me off on my builds but definitely makes everything easier.
Some major saves have been posted it appears. Think one of the peaceful ones would be best since it looks pretty clear cut from here if a rush has succeeded. Shyuhe's save looks like a domination victory by about 1000 AD if there is a way to get to HC easily :p

Spoiler :
Though my rush speed was decent (although had to wait for the border pop) but can't believe how far some people have already got. Personally think that Toku has to go, I have a small grudge against him but he is a warmonger and we are going to be the only target whatever strategy is applied.

Shyuhe is a well versed immortal/Deity player. I suspect thats why he is only shadowing. The rules of the cookbook invite higher level player to play to show us how its done but to shadow only. Comfortable immortal players should be shadowing. As players improve I see many leaving the cookbook and new players entering. its like a school. Once you are qualified you leave.

We may well conisder a weaker save after first round. A game that is won by 1000ad is not going to teach us anything. I would like to see us play from a peaceful save.

Here is my save. pushed enter one more time but did not play the turn. I think i overplayed this especially since science is at 10% and writing not merely completed.
i went Hunt-AH-BW-Road-Agri-pot-wri. i decided to settle on the hill cause i learn from this forum that this give a extra hammer which according to my calculation his almost always good. because i lost a turn i decided not to go poly. very good decision considering the close AI. So i went BW and claim the copper site next. Then i got unlucky. altough i had a warrior on the hill north where i intended to put my 3rd city a black city appeared between me and the perfect site. So i settle my third city to block GK. then when my 2 first axemen arrived to capture the black city. it was destroyed by toku. so i built a settler for the marble-horse site but monte beat me by a couple of turn. i decided to settle for the marble anyway to realize he had only one archer guarding is city. copper was connected to my capital so i decided to swicth in axemen rush and take monte city. i have 7 axeman and 6 warrior but i feel it will take at least 15 turn to finish monte. What do you all think?

This is my first time posting on these forums, but i am currently learning emperor (winning with fin/org leaders), and though ghandhi would be a good leader to try out. I have always read the emperor cookbook, trying to learn from others.

Spoiler :

Settled first city on the hill 1W of start for the extra hammer, building order was: worker -> warrior -> warrior -> cant remember but changed to settler when i reached 3 in delhi. research order: hunting -> AH -> BW -> wheel -> Agr -> pottery -> writing

settled second city around 2800 close to pig and copper.

built a couple of workes in delhi + barracks. barracks in bombay. started pumping axes.

in 1900bc i attacked mongol:

status 1500:
forgot to take more screenies, but i managed to kill khan, capturing 2 cities razing 1, loosing like 3 axes in the process, currently up to 9 axes, so might be enough to kill monty, at least take out that bab city by delhi. just finished researching writing, and have started masonary, maybe a late call for mids? library on the way in some of the cities.

Indeed, I only posted my game as a shadow for comparison. Although I'm still trying to figure out how Soirana managed to do what he did in his game, namely:

Spoiler :

chariot rush a protective AI on a hill??? I wonder how many chariots it took...

Which makes me think there should be a series focused only on 4000BC->1AD since it tends to make or break most games...

Its an idea as a seperate series maybe. I would hate to see lots of uncompleted games each week/month. It would seem you are moving towards Soirana IC idea of having reporting date. By this you also assume that people who play Monarch or lower need no help late game.

The question is why do people play the cookbook? For me its great to see how everyone plays each stage of the game. If you restrict the game to 1ad you lose this as everyone will simply complete their own save. For instance you wont seehow player prioritise national wonders and how they place them. Also how people prepare for rifle wars. How to use great people. How to prepare for wars late on. So many things som pleayers struggle on or miss out on things.

The cookbook voting process makes you look at the other saves and this is good for helping play and learning how others play. How many times do you take time to look at other saves on other threads?

I would agree there is a point where the learning point recedes and perhaps at this stage the game could be played to completion. Like we did on the last cookbook around 1500ad. If we have a challenging game we could play more later rounds. I have a few ideas on maps for this. ;)

Soirana is a god. So anything is possible.:lol::lol:
