Give me 18, but not on Earth - new PBEM

To my south-west are the vast and rich lands of Ma Kebeli Eve.
To the east is the ocean.
And to the north west are the rich mountains of Fo Ols Gold and I Amr Ich.
Far to the south is Fant Asyl And.

This is why we firmly believe in the gods of Nom Aptra Dingbe Forepa Per.
(no maping trading before paper).

I understand the no map trading before paper concept... think of this more as ancient peoples sharing some info amongst themselves and then drawing crude pictures on cave walls.

I promise there is absolutely no strategic thought to this and its simply to give us all a little fun in the game. true map trading gives specific of the lay of the land. This is simply ocean/no ocean/ this civ is next to me and thats it. "This civ is next to me" means nothing, it could be 3 squares or it could be 50. "Ocean on my left" means nothing other than you are somewhere near the western coast on what could be an island, a continent, whatever.

Believe me, when you see the drawing I will post, it will have absolutely minimal strategic value other than "this is generally what could be" and will clearly be of no use to anyone in a game context. There have been enough hints dropped as it is, its just taking the assumptions everyone is making anyway and putting it crudly to paper. Some of you might have already been doing this.

And again - this is why I said to only give information you are comfortable making public. And I completely understand not giving any info at all and I'm totally fine with that.

This is the equivalent of an ancient form of whisper down the lane. The results of this study will surely be incredibly off vs the actual world. It's only for the purposes of fun, not for ruining any strategery. Remember, this is a game :)

Little question: Do we actually understand the concept of orientations such as West or North yet? I figured I wouldn´t mention it in my story until the advent of the Compass-tech and just gave generic directions in my first chapter.

Here is my description, make of it whatever you want: If you look outside the front-window of the dining hall in the Sumerian Palace, you can see a large bay full of various kinds of seafood, most notably crabs, that leads to the open sea. Turn left and behind wide plains and some forests lies the unforgiving tundra to which the Shafepche demons were banned generations ago by our great hero and leader Gilgamesh. Turn left again and pass the forbidden hills to spot another sea that is too far away for our people to fish in. Lastly there is one direction left, but it holds nothing more than plains and supposedly two more peoples like us called the Indians and the Ethiopians respectively, if you want to believe the old myths.

Huh I have to integrate this description somewhere in my story, it´s certainly gonna fit somewhere. Speaking of which, due to having an English test tomorrow I figured I could combine doing something for school and having fun by finally continuing to write "The Epic of Gilgamesh and the history of Sumer".
Paradigm Shifter would you mind if in far future (let´s say in the Renaissance) I conquer one or several of your cities for story-writing purposes? I thought of leaving an important artifact by Gilgamesh´s family in your empire and have it being found later to disprove the main ideology of Sumer and therefore causing chaos and revolts and stuff.

Anyway, working out the final details of the Gilgamesh Plot, from which every shocking surprise my reader(s) will experience is already planned, in opposite to the History of Sumer which is improvised as the game gives me something to write about.

Cheers.

Ah, I think I probably gave away a bit too much about my location to Nighthawk. Hopefully he wont use it against me.

Don't worry your descriptions were more than generic and of no use to me. I believe I may be cut off from everyone (although not positive) so by the time I can sail the seas and actualyl find you we will all have traded maps long ago...

I promise you all there was absolutely no ill intent and it was merely meant as a "pass the time between turns" fun little exercise for entertainment of the masses and nothing more. Apparently it broke a PBEm game law so I will publish what I've received in crude drawings later tonight and leave it at that.

You don't need a compass to know that the sun always rises in the same(ish) direction.

Indeed, you got a point there. Of course the details may vary depending on how close you are to the equator, as two directions would suffice in that case.

I started my crude drawings but then got super busy at work and left it on my desk and i have no scanner at home. When I am back in the office monday I will sketch it out based on any emails and PMs I do have and scan and send it to everyone... apologies for the delay.

Because I am off to Switzerland until Thursday (it´s a school trip) I authorize Nighthawk to play my next turn. I´ll now spend the next two hours writing on my story before I have to leave. If you are lucky I am able to upload it today, else you have to wait until next weekend.

Cheers.

Anyone know if eclipse is having a problem with the save, or something of that nature?

I just want to make sure I didn't upload a bad save again since I was the last to go before him.

I'm sure the file is ok, I'm traveling without my laptop this week, it's in for a fan

Should be able to play it tonight (tomorrow at worst)

How accurate are the location of the continents on the "rough" map Nighthawk send out?

Whoever has Stonehenge will have a good idea of the location of their tribe in the overall map.
After that it's all relative.

No-one will have any idea of relative position of other islands, unless the channels are very narrow,
or unless they are a lot quicker to galleys or suicide fishing boats than I would have guessed (and the channels are still pretty narrow)

The map is 100% NOT to scale. The only things that are even remotely close to accurate are the people who are closest to the poles because they have mentioned ice or tundra. Otherwise the scaling means absolutely nothing and I guess at most of it haha. It would have been more interesting/fun if we had gotten more than a 60% response rate, but NO MAP TRADING BEFORE PAPER!

I knew this delay was coming when Eclipse told me about his computer issues. We should be moving again hopefully tonight or at the latest tomorrow...
