Give me 18, but not on Earth - new PBEM

Did I understand right from comments made on the PBEM tracker page... someone founded Taoism? So that must mean chose religions is enabled as an option? No way anyone could get philosophy this early.

Or am I completely missing something?

Yes it is on, check the settings, there are several not default.

Yes choose religions is on, I did that so you have a little bit of variety in the game and to allow you to make your civ your own with religion. Also, it mixes things up so you don't really know which religious tech was founded first... Spices the game up a bit in my opinion!

Either that or it was a holdover from a previous game. I don't quite remember at this point :p

Could everyone please send me a test email, My Laptop crashed and this will help get reconnected

Please include your username :)

Thanks

Maybe the last turn has still to end Espiritio, else I have no clue.

I´m really sorry to disappoint my fan(s), but school is keeping me busy now, so don´t expect any uploads until the next weekend unless you are very optimistic. Though there is some good news too: I finally decided for a name for Gilgamesh´ daughter, thanks to the Random Name Generator in Eclipse´s sig.

Spoiler Also :
I plan on writing two story-lines parallel, one following Gilgamesh and his family and the other one covering current happenings in the game, so you not only get a history-drama about the Sumerians, but also a soap-opera for free!

Cheers.

I have it - playing in 5-7 hrs.

And we kick off another year, 40 years down the line...

GPS to Calanthian

this last one was a big one for the Native Americans! We begin work digging up those stones on the hill next to our capital...

@Imp. Knoedel
I just watched Conan the Barbarian (modern), its about the Sumerians :)

@All I have a PC up and purchased and installed Civ 4 Complete from Steam (it also came with Colonization)
Anyway that just leaves out the days i'm on the road, Monday ~ Wednesday

Well, it seems to not show the messages sent in the diploscreen, but I do see Nighthawks first message now. Maybe everyone could type something in the chat to see whether that works for everyone.

Also I just survived my first barbarian attack, but the now damaged warrior will get attacked again by another barb this turn and if he doesn´t make it my settler made the long voyage for nothing but a good story of barbarians massacring the Sumerian lost tribe.

And does someone know how long you can use parts of animals before they rot or get unusable? I mean things like bones and leather for tents and the like.

Ah, so that's why your settler is waiting on the hill. My scout did wonder what was going on.

Messages show up in the diplo screen but you have to propose something I believe for it to work. If you just want to send a message you have to hit [TAB] and speak (to everyone or individual). But there is no notification when someone speaks to you in this way.

Thats the absolute worst, sets you so far behind losing a settler this early... I popped a hut with barbs but my warrior managed to survive the onslaught. It was only 1 though.

I edited my post in the story thread with a table of contents. As you can see I already have the titles for my first four stories, but the last two would be kinda spoiling so I decided to not publish them until I have completely written the chapters to them. Maybe I will change the fourth title depending on how the next barbarian assault ends.
Nighthawk maybe you should check your posts in the story thread too, there is one that has exactly the same content as one of Eclipse´s posts.

On another note I think of giving names to rivers and hills and the like, for now that´s okay because every civ is on its own and therefore has its own names for everything but one day, maybe when most players have writing or alphabet or something like that, we should get used to agree on global (or continental depending on the map) names for important features.

Oh and Espirito or my other neighbors for that matter: Even if you see the outcome of my battle, do not tell it publicly because I want to keep it as secret as possible until I publish the story segment covering it. You don´t want to spoil my fan(s), don´t you?

Cheers.

As long as after you type the message you hit "Enter" it loads and is available, it is unknown whether you will see a message reporting you have a message. So we should use this for Entertainment rather than official Diplomatic subjects.

I'm not an expect here but leathers should last most of a characters life unless he is very rough. Bones could last forever unless they are being used in a dynamic way to hold something up, which I would think a short time.

I am hoping more will join in a write something, this just adds depth and strength to the game, from time to time we'll get busy, others will burn out on Civing temporarily or computers will crash. If you merely play your turns and send them off that is great!, but if you have added your own personality to the game, players tend to be more motivated to wards that particular game.

@Everyone

You do not have to write a book, or even short stories here, Just a silly overlook like "Wow we've come a long way since we started" will sometimes spur your own interest. I added this note here to Propose if a reader spots something like spelling, Grammar etc. It would be graat that person was told. An example, a Portuguese player from another game wrote something in his native language and translated it to English, the Portuguese version blew me away, the English version didn't come close. So don't translate please, we can do that, and if passages don't make sense we'll ask, sometimes that bit there adds another even more Character

This is a public service announcement from your friendly narrator/game leader.

First of all, I'd like to thank you all for your patience in playing this very slow moving game, and also thank you for your commitment to getting your turn in on schedule. We have been averaging anywhere from 1-3 full rounds (all 18 of us!) a week with minimal stoppages, generally no more than 24 hours. This is about what the schedule says... and yes the schedule is generally working! Thanks to the more experienced PBEM guys for the suggestion!

If you are like me, one of my favorite parts about civving with a random map is the world exploration and finding out your place in the world and what challenges the map is bringing you. Throughout history, mankind has strived to map out the world, and early maps were WAY OFF course, but useful in their own way.

What I'd like to do is attempt to sketch out a crude map of the world we are playing in to send to the group. Any of us might have been able to deduce certain things by the lines dropped by certain players about their neighbors. However I'd like to formalize this with a guess at what we might be dealing with. The results may surprise you, and at the very least its entertaining for us as we wait for our turn to show up again. Also it has the added bonus of raising the excitement level for the game just a bit!

If you don't mind please send me a message in some form (PM, email, whatever) with some info about your surroundings. I'm not looking for any state secrets or anything earth shattering here. Just super high level generalities about your neighbors (or lack thereof) and generally what is in each of the major directions from you.

An example is my own: East is Egypt. North, South and West are ocean. Thats it! If you give me some general info like that (or even something like South - Unexplored) I can hopefully put together an early sketch of the world as it might be.

And lastly - if you don't want to share any information, that is completely understandable and I will work around it. Only give the information you are ok with your competition knowing. The results of this study will be shared publicly within the next couple days.

This message will be posted on the civfanatics thread about the game, send via email and sent via PM.

Thanks for your time and for keeping this game running!

Your fearless leader,
Night Hawk
