GK2- The Training Day Experiment

It's 3W to the western city, and that's 1.5+1.5+1.5 = 4.5 (rounded down to 4). It's 2S and 1SE to the southern one, and that's 1.5+1.5+1 = 4.

I stand corrected - I must have been drinking some strong tea during lunch, either that or I had difficulty counting past 3. :D

I think the tech priorities may shift depending on what we can trade for... if we can't trade for Map Making, that should be the one to go for next.

IIRC, you don't have Alphabet or Writing so Map Making will be difficult.

1) if you wanted to have RCP, you missed. The Western city is at 4.5 and the southern city is at 3.5. You round down in both cases, so you have a 3 and a 4.

Quick and n00bish question, what does RCP stand for?
And also when your saying the westernt city is at 4.5,and the
southern city is at 3.5,what exactly do those numbers represent?

What does IIRC mean?

Thanks in advance.....

RCP = Ring City Placement There is a nice write up in the war academy HERE It is written by DaviddesJ, who invented the concept.

The numbers stand for how far a city is from the capitol. Tiles N,E,S, and W count 1.5. Tiles NE, SE, SW, and NW count 1.0. Then round down. The theory is that cities that are the same distance from the capitol have the same corruption level.

IIRC = If I recall correctly (something that I've been doing less of lately) A list of common acronyms can be found Here

RCP - Ring City Placement: Place your cities around your capitol at a equal distance to minimize corruption. The numbers are the distance where fields in the NW,NE,SW,SE direction are counted 1, while N,S,W,E are counted 1.5. There is a more detailed explanation one one of the pages in this thread.
Its a way to place cities. Another variant is to grab the best sites regardless of tile counting. RCP does not work anymore in Conquests, but is a strong concept in Civ3, PTW.

[edit] slighty to slow :crazyeye:

IIRC - If I Recall Correctly

RCP is a city placement strategy that will give you lower corruption for your cities.

Wow, I went to find the thread link and I'm third in line with the answer

wow,thanks guys...
i read the article on RCP and found it very helpful. You say it dosnt work in conquests anymore so thats a pity.anyway i have another question,I was reading posts from the beginning of this thread and it looked like everyone was going to have there own game and make there own decsions but now it looks like a normal SG with 10 turn passover type deal.Am i correct,if not someone please correct me.

Thanks...
-Nick-

We just played the first ten turns individually and the we started a SG from there. Gengis and I wanted to give everyone the experience of founding a city, initial builds, science, etc.

Later in the game it will probably go down to five turns per player, to maximize the experience.

should i do that,or should i just wait for my turn to do my 10?I know basically what to do in the begining.

Well... from personal experience.... before reading Crackers' Improving your Opening Play Skills and Bamspeedy's Babylon's Diety Setlers I thought I knew what to "basically do in the beginning"... Please don't take any of this as "talking down to you" ... I really don't mean it that way at all... matter of fact... it might be a little early for you to read those articles just yet...

Friendly advice: Play the first 10 turns. Crank up a ... Warlord or Regent level game, Play 20 turns. Read Cracker... crank up a new game, play 20 turns. Then read Bamspeedy... crank up another game...play 20 turns.... then drink a beer.... and maybe you'll start to see than there's not much "basic" about the first 10 moves...

...and just when you think I'm being arrogant, and talkin' down to you... bear in mind... it took me a year (no kiddin') to begin to get the grasp of the power of the opening moves...

...and then, when you've done those things... maybe you'll undertstand why I wanted you in this game! :D

no offense man,I think it helps me learn and to become a better player. As for those articles you mentioned,I'm going to read those asap and will practice practice practice.I love civ3 so it wont be a problem to log some major hours in-game and strategy on-line.Thanks for your help....

Woo hoo, finaly got my Civ3 disc. Here's my first hour.

Patch the disc with the 1.35f, patchdownloaded last week.

Download this threads day #1

Figure out I can't get from city view to world view.

Look at manual, it sucks.

Reread the keyboard helps downloaded from Civ Fan

Crash a few times during the begining thingie.

Finally play a little of the game. Replay early moves several times because I am a newb. Try the "tutorial", it sucks. Get to learn the basic moves, kewl.

I'm going to shadow this game. Thanks a lot to the instuctors and the instructees who are active in this thread.

:)

The Good News: I just landed a job that should help my career (and my wallet).
The Bad News: I turned in my two week notice and may not have the opportunity to surf the forums from my new job. (ControlFreak disappears, part two.:( )
The Good News: I have a lot of time to goof off for the next two weeks. So I put together this Cross-Reference of the thread to date. I catagorized it a little bit.

Nick - Sir Bugs posted this roster after adding you to the game. Infoman hasn't posted anything in a while... and I'm starting to hope the guy is still alive and doing okay...

At the moment, it looks like SK is up, then Infoman if he shows, me, you, then back to Shogun (who just played). It looks like you'll be settling a few cities for us... assuming Infoman doesn't show up, they'll probably be important ones in the "land grab against Japan" thing. Since we've seen a few barbarians, you'll probably get a tiny bit of combat in as well.

Sounds great.I hope that guy shows up though,it makes the game more interesting, more people, more fun.It may include more waiting time before its your turn again but I don't mind.I just wanted to know because I learn alot when people are doing thier turns and everyone is discussing the game it-self.:grad:

Im going to play my turns tonight or tomorrow, as i have another mountain of coursework to scale.

SolarKnight

will-do:goodjob:
i don't really remember a few pages back but im assuming u discussed with everyone what ur generaly going to do?or u guys discussed what needs to be done?
