Going Viking (Conquests)

How funny, just last night I said to myself: "Self, this game really needs some Northern European Dark Ages Scenarios, better get to work." Behold, it seems I am not the only one with this thought.

Sorry there's been no updates but I'm on holiday (vacation). I have access to a PC but I don't have the scenario files with me. I am visiting Thurso in Scotland and I'm happy to report that I have not sighted any Vikings yet.

I have done some rework on the scenario already. I made it play faster by turning on accelerated production (things were moving just a bit too slowly). Also, enslavement to booty is removed from Raiders and only Viking leaders have that ability now -tempting you to use your King unit in combat. So I've got to ask you to bear with me again and I promise to make this a great scenario with your help of course. thanks King Arthur.

I had a game crash when someone built a curragh (missing PRTO entry) but that was an easy fix.

Have played a couple of games and so far I like. Have Modded mine a bit, but thats more for personal taste. Yep accelerated production is a good idea.

Now 2 requests.
1, leave raiders with enslave to booty. I do use my king for combat already and to be honest losing the game to an unlucky result with your king, after an hours play isn't as much fun as you'd think. People should use their kings for roleplaying reasons, not coz the game kinda makes them.

2, would you consider moving the Boneless Vikings start point to Waterford (Vadrefjord-"fair weather ford") as this was the first Viking settlement in Ireland. In fact a couple of weeks ago work was halted on the Waterford ring road because they came across the original, untill know unknown, original site of Waterford, which pushes back the first date of Viking settlement by 50 years. A cool find but now we have to find a new route for the road, and re-write history.

Thanks for the suggestions Tathlum. I guess I can bring the raiders back because the AI doesn't seem to use their leader units that often anyway. Not so sure about making Waterford the initial spot for the vikings in Ireland, they are led by Ivarr the Boneless after all and he is has more in connection with the Dublin site. I will make Vadrefjord second in the city list tho'. Still it's interesting to hear about these finds. You didn't get the building crash that other people experienced then?

First of all, love your mod. I decided to finally register on the site, because I wanted to comment on it and encourage you to keep working on it.

I wanted to second Tathlum's request to keep the raiders and to keep the enslavement to booty. That is a feature of your mod that I really liked, especially because early on in playing it, one's warriors are stretched pretty thin -- having the enslavement to booty made for some interesting strategical decisions because the AI would go after raiders that carried booty.

I can't remember which turn it would be, but after awhile (usually once the game got really interesting), the game would crash. I know that's not particularly helpful, but that was the only bug that I noticed, besides the curragh file (but that's easy to solve). I never had trouble with the "building" bug, but then again that might be what I'm talking about here.

Anyway, excellent mod, and I look forward to seeing the new version posted.

Yes, it's true, there is nothing, that makes sure the error has to do with some building or not. But to me this happens when I first time finished a building.

Agreed, is there any chance for geting a new version?

Ok thanks guys. Very annoying are those types of bugs. I never experienced the bug myself and have been able to build everything. It's one of the reasons why I haven't released an update yet. All being well, I'll post a new version around the middle of next week.

I bet that you already have the files you need on your computer in some other folder, that is why it works on your computer.

If I could recommend, do fresh install and and see if it works on another computer.

I erased the scenario, and I was waiting for the update. But I will download it again to see where the files that the scenario is looking for are.

I'm sure you have already done the above, but just incase I figured I would ask. :goodjob:

No, I haven't experienced the building bug.
Maybe like LuckyOrDead says it relies on other files that I might also have.(I pretty much download everything).

I keep coming here, looking to download this scenario, but the download is always removed to fix bugs.
Id love to play it bugs and all.

It works no crashes. :goodjob:

The only thing that I found that is not there is Hall of Champions.
Even after I build the Tech I was unable to build the wonder, or do I need something else to build it other than the tech.

You have done well .... the Scenario is still cool.

Cheers LuckyorDead. From memory I think you need to have a Drinking Hall before you can build the Hall of Champions - those champions are very thirsty you know. I'll check tonight and confirm that for you. I'm glad you enjoy the scenario.

Thank you. I will try it this weekend... if the weather is bad enough. ;)

LuckyOrDead, I checked the editor and as well as requiring a Drinking Hall for the Hall of Champions you also need to have had a victorious army. Champions aren't stupid and will only join up with the faction that looks like winning.

Thanks KingArthur, ive not been on the forum for a week or so.
I'm currently downloading. I'll give you some feedback once ive had a game.

With what little I've played of this mod, I have to say great job! Unfortunately, the reason why I haven't played all that much this mod is because by about the 3rd turn the waiting time takes about 1 minute. By the 10th it takes several minutes. My question is, is this normal, or am I the only person experiencing this problem?

Thanks for enjoying the scenario.
I have found it to be a bit slow on my PC which is why I have decided to create a slimline version with fewer starting cities for the local civs. It'll just be a simple download of a new download so look out for it in the next couple of days.
