Done African Update!
African NPC Descriptions
I am doing this now because I was to lazy to do it in Update 14. I shall consider this post 8 of Update 15, for convenience.
Morocco
Morocco was just granted Independence from the USE, and the USE held democratic elections in this extremely poor, desert nation. Those who left Morocco when it was still a USE Colony are slowly returning, bringing life back into this nation. With the majority of its former population living in other places, this is very weak. It is democratic though, rare in Africa.
Western Sahara
The situation in Western Sahara is nearly identical to that of Morocco, but its poorer.
Mauritania
This nation is in the grips of a despotic dictator who uses the nation as his person playground, and his security forces regularly plunder the countryside, killing men, women, and children. This Dictator is mean, evil, and would probably be in a mental hospital anywhere else.
Algeria
Algeria is, in its Constitution, a Democracy, but a vicious Civil War which is ongoing caused that to be halted, as the Government battles well-armed and financed Communist Rebels. Elections have not been held for 13 years, simply because of the Civil War, and the Government, while actively promising elections if the rebels stop rebelling, seems to be in no hurry to give up power. The economy has been ground to a halt during the war.
Ethiopia
Ethiopia was a prosperous country, for Africa, at least, at the beginning of the 10 years, but a short and bloody Civil War by Eriterians and several Military Coups changed that. Ethiopia is slowly recovering from its troubles, but the Military remains fully in control, and seems more concerned about the size of its military then of its people. Ethiopia is also blamed by the Sudanese for causing the Christian Uprising that Sudan is facing.
Libya
Libya was also prosperous before the 10 years. But Moammar Ghadaffi changed that. After he gassed several villages of ethnic minorities after they attempted to declare independence, the world shunned him. He has sanctions from almost every country in the world on him, which drove his Oil-rich country to the ground. He is focussing on his Military right now, but bankruptcy might occur for this nation is something doesn happen, and quick.
Niger
Niger, recovering from a devastating drought, is undergoing ethnic tensions. Fighting between the 2 largest ethnic groups is tearing the country apart, and driving an already poor economy into the ground. The Hausa, winning the war, claim to be the Government, but other ethnic groups reject that, leaving it in the air who is truly the Leader.
Somalia
Not much changed in Somalia. The dictator in charge before the 10 years is still in charge. However, his power is slipping, as warring Warlords battle for control of some of the reaches of the country out of the Government's control. The situation seems to be deteriorating, unless something is done.
Sudan
Sudan faces an imminent split in its country, as the South of Sudan, Christian minority, threatens to secede. Sudan blames Ethiopia for supporting the rebels, and tensions between the 2 are increasing. The southern rebels have been well-armed, and are rumored to be close to separating from the Muslim north. A brief war with the UIR over border issues did not help the situation at all.
Uganda
Uganda remains, surprisingly enough, a Democracy. It is small, it is weak, it is poor, but it is democratic. Uganda faces the split-up of the AF as its biggest challenges, which could destabilize the region.
Mali
Mali is poor and at war with the PRA, to its south, over minor border issues. Not much has changed here, besides the war.
People's Republic of Africa
The PRA was formed by a union between Senegal, Guinea, Sierra Leone, and Liberia. Originally, Senegal and Guinea joined to try and revitalize their economy, and then they took over the other 2 nations. They are the only Communist nation in Africa, and they are fairly well-off, compared to their neighbours. They have an ongoing border war with Mali, and they look to the riches in the Ivory Coast with jealousy.
African Confederation
This was Ghana and Upper Volta agreeing to tag-team Togo and Benin. Well, it worked, until the Ghanaian Dictator backstabbed the Upper Voltan leader, and took over the nation. This nation is fairly big, fairly poor, and has been threatening their richer neighbour Ivory Coast as of late.
Chad
Chad has a weak Government, and is split by bickering ethnic groups. Nothing else of note here, other then the Government, which is on paper democratic, never really gets anything done because of the squabbling ethnic groups.
Central African Republic
AIDS and persistent drought has seriously affected this nation. The Government is a dictatorship, but is fairly popular among the people. Nothing else of consequence here.
Cameroon
Ever since it split from the African Federation, Cameroonians have been nervous of the AF. They live in a poor country, which tried reforms to bring back prosperity, but they failed. Many are in favour of joining Nigeria, and most agree that Nigeria is the answer to their woes.
Kenya
Kenya just officially split from the AF, and is trying, and somewhat succeeding to rebuilt itself. It is trying to write a suitable Constitution, and hold elections, and is rebuilding, slowly but surely. They are nervous about the AF, and will definitely try for a larger army in the future.
