GOTM 31 Pre-Game Discussion

Amen to that- I definitely floundered around for awhile trying to find the right combination of mod packs before I was prepped for my first GOTM earlier this month... Just a link from the GOTM page to a spot with all of the files to be installed by new players would be peachy.

The reference thread pinned up top has all the links you need. It gives links to the various files and tells you which ones you need for every game. :)

Thanks for the plug, Stone Wolf. If the Reference posts don't provide the information you need, please let me know. Either PM me or post >>HERE<<, but please don't spam the Reference thread.

Links to the Start Files are now available on the Features page. Please make sure you install the latest pediaIcons.txt file. It's linked in this thread and also comes in the .zip file.

Once you have opened the start file, please do NOT post details of your game or of the discoveries you make except in the Spoiler threads.
The first Spoiler thread will open around 5th May. If you have any technical problems please PM me any time, or Ainwood after the weekend.

Bon chance, et Vive la France!

Where I need to install pediaIcons.txt? To Gotm25 folder?
As you have a Gotm25 folder I assume you are playing PtW and the folder is in Civilization III\scenarios\? If so, then put pediaIcons.txt inside the Civilization III\scenarios\Gotm25\text\ folder.

awww... Joanie's pretty little mugshot is missing on the F4 screen. -sigh- Diplomacy's just not the same...

EDIT: oop, the zipped pediaicons file was the culprit- thanks AlanH!

Working just fine here. I'd be the first to complain if my favourite Civ pin-up wasn't on display

Have you installed the correct pediaicons.txt file? You played Civ 1.29 last month. Did you check out my post earlier today in the saves announcement thread, warning about the pediaicons.txt file that comes in the .zip?

I think you left out the PTW folder in the above path. It should be:
Civilization III\CivIIIPTW\scenarios\gotm25\text

Good catch Zagnut. Apologies. In the absence of the pros, I was using borrowed info, as I don't have any of this Windoze stuff myself. :(

Back to emperor, eh? Maybe we'll get some lux this time!

For our wonderful GOTM administrators:

The intro page for each game of the month gives good instructions on what we need to install. At the bottom it says:

"If you have not previously recently played and completed a GOTM game, then download the "Gotm21 Total Install" first and then add the Add-On packs for Gotm22, Gotm23, Gotm24 and then add on the Gotm25 game pack that matches your software. You can download the Game Packs from the game pages in the menu at the left hand side of this page. Please pay close attention to matching the game pack versions to the software version that you are playing as this will eliminate 95% of all the errors that have been observed in the past games."

However, I once installed to the wrong folder (the PTW sub folder instead of the main Civilization folder). I also noticed that in the GOTM FAQ this is a recurring problem. Perhaps there should be an added line that says something like "Please be sure to install the files to your Civilization folder and not to a PTW subfolder if it is present."

These are not the exact names for the folders as I don't have Civ installed on this computer.

On the GOTM 31 feature page there is also a teeny tiny error. It says "Predator class game details for GOTM 30" rather than GOTM 31.
