GOTM 31 Pre-Game Discussion

Hmm, with the extra warrior and worker things change a little for me (since I'm going to do Conquest). I'm thinking one worker moves E, and then the warrior moving either N or NW, depending on what the first worker sees. The second worker could go S, join the first worker to mine the BG to the E, mine the starting tile.

I'm still not sure what tech I'll go for. I'll just check to see which civs are around when I start the game and then try to guess at which techs are nearest me. France has two good techs to trade, so I'm not too worried about not being able to afford other techs in trade.

Anyone want to tell me where I'm going wrong? ;)

IMPORTANT NOTE:

I needed to add France to the pediaicons.txt file. To avoid crashes, the appropriate pediaicons.txt file is included with each save file (when they are posted tomorrow).

However, for those of you wanting to do it now, do the following:

Right-click and choose 'save-as' on these links, to avoid them being 'opened' rather than downloaded.

Civ / Mac Users: Download the pediaicons.txt file from Here. Put it in your Civ3\Text directory.

PTW Players: Download the pediaicons.txt file from Here Put it in the civ3\civ3ptw\scenarios\gotm25\text\ folder.

:)

Well, we got almost everything, except start saves.

One more question from newbie: What victory conditions do we have? Cause, when i read Game Features at first time, i thought that Conquest Class means that only Conquest Victory is available, and Open Class means that ANY kind of Victory is available.

Can anyone explain to me what victory conditions do we have (for all classes) and is there any difference (may be bonus points) for certain type of victory?

The Conquest/Open/Predator classes are just difficulty levels. Check out the "Features" link above for the differences between them.

You can go for whatever victory condition you want to no matter what class you are in. As far as I know, there are no bonuses for different victory conditions, though the scoring is very complex. If you're playing Conquest, you do take a 15% penalty to your score so you won't be winning any medals, though I think a "fastest victory" award for your victory type is still possible.

No - Conquest-class players are ineligable for fastest-finish awards.

That makes sense. Heh, I think I'm going to stick with Conquests anyways, since I need the help on Emporer and the only way I could win an award on this one is if it suddenly started raining spaceship parts on me!

Wow, I'm playing on Open Class and we will not have a worker in order to starting to explore around to check the best starting position!
We have to play on emperor level without à worker just our settler! Wow... :(

Looking foward to have the saved games now! :)

Eh? I didn't see where it said that Open didn't get their worker. Heck, even Predator players don't lose their worker (unless I've gone totally brain dead).

Oh, and the screenshot shows two units on the starting square. Conquest players get more than that, so it isn't a screenshot from the Conquests version. Unless Predator players get a unit that Open players don't, it should be a worker.

If you are reading "Bonuses: none" as meaning no worker, I think you are mistaken. It simply means there are no extra starting units or benefits compared with a standard Emperor game.

Stone Wolf , it's on the features screens;

Conquest Class Starting Bonuses:
Total Starting Cash in Treasury: 100 units of gold
Extra Units: A warrior to defend your lands and press your borders.
Extra Units: A worker to speed development of your territories.

Open Class Starting Bonuses:
None

Predator Class Equalizing Obstacles:
AI Free unit support: increased to Deity Level
AI Starting Units: All AI begin with an additional settler and an additional worker

So for me, we only have a settler in the open class.

Just a quick question: Are there any new naval units for Player civs in the GotMs? I don't mean specific to this game, of course, just in general. I seem to recall something called a Tririme from an earlier GotM, and when looking at previous GotMs I saw "Junks" in there. Are either of these normally available for people to build?

Oh, I think that the worker mentioned for Conquests is a bonus worker, so people playing that will have two workers to start.

Trickster [RUS] and AlanH, I've check the previous annoucement games and I think you are right about the fact we have a worker as always in a standard emperor game level.

Ouf! Because without a worker in a standard map on emperor level.... :o

Thanks.

IIRC, There is a new naval unit available to Human players - the Galeass, which is an early and weeker Frigate. It is available after Gunpowder.

As for Junks, some of the "non-standard" PTW civs (ie modded civs) may be Seafaring and will then have junks (w/o transport capacity) after Alphabet.
