GOTM 8 *Spoiler* Talks

I found an earlier shot of my SSC before the Collosus expired.
Smash,
Can you give a brief explanation eg. a timeline of what you did, say 4000BC -> 2500BC? Do you try to build wonders other than in the SSC?
It's really something to get a city like this in 660BC.

Not in this game.1st wonder was Cope's.Then Collosus...then Sir Isaac..then Shakes. That was done early.
Nothing besides SSC.I played it OCC with all other cities having to manage on their own.Basically OCC with a bunch of helper cities. That is the fastest way to AC.But usually only maybe 6 or 7 helpers.I built way more than that cuz of gotm score system. That slows things down considerably.
After that I could have my pick but only really wanted Leo's for settler>engineer and trireme>>>transport.
I had a built in Mich's and JSB with warlord so they aren't needed till much later.
Earlier I said I had 38 cities and 1900 odd science at 1ad but that was the wrong save. That was 1000bc.At 1 ad I had 61 cities and 0 science.I held a revolt so I could bypass the stupid senate and attack a foe that had just screwed my peace bonus....

1 ad I had 61 cities
I knew I was going a little slowly. I think I concentrated too much on wonders. It's probably not a good idea with many coastal cities and not much else.

I'm in 960AD. I've just got robotics. Bought lots of offshore platforms, made factories and built Hoover Dam. Nearly finished the SETI program. I'm building lots of engineers at the moment, so my pop is still only 31,000,000 (it was 30,000,000 in 500AD).
I have 64 cities and I'm about to grow again, so I think I can get a SS built by 1200AD. If I'm still growing well, I might delay the launch.

my first science city i actually made produced 714 beakers, how are you guys getting so much?!!! is it all of the trade?

my pop is still only 31,000,000 (it was 30,000,000 in 500AD).
I have 64 cities.

you have 64 cities and such a small population!!?? what size are your cities????

Conquest!

What next??? Cheiftan?!?

Is that possible? I mean, isn't there a new Civ the next turn?

I've got a bit of a problem with the results of the GOTM VII. Or actually, some players have a problem: they thought they conquered the world, but when I press enter a new turn begins because a new Civ has started. I don't think I can put them in the results list. Other people did play on until they had the whole world.

Edit: this is weird: Of the GOTM VII, there's one guy who conquered the world, but has a new Civ the next turn and two guys who's game doesn't end while they conquered the world and there doesn't appear a new Civ. Could that last thing be because they possess all the squares where a new Civ might appear?

The game ended in my game. (GOTM8)
I just reloaded it 4 times and twice it ended, twice a new civ spawned...

Matrix, I think you should just award the victory in that case, restarting seems random, and people have probably had the game end in their game. Just reload it until it works.
Of course people could take advantage of this, but there are many ways to cheat and this would be just like regular save/reload cheating.

If a player saves the game AFTER they capture the last city, then , when reloading the game, it wont end the game. I believe this is a bug.
Again you should just gather the points and award the win by conquest.
Otherwise victory by conquest would be "dangerous" to attempt, if their game was scrapped because it acted differently when you loaded it.

I agree, LeBigMec. Thanks for this explanation. They'll be included.

Im done. I killed the 3 last AIs at 2 last turns. I thought the sioux would've restart,
but no! I was just starting to grow with a flash; much to improve.
And I THOUGHT I WAS 60 MINUTES TOO LATE

This was my first GOtM(I usually play prince) and probably the first time I lost on Warlord

I HATE USING THE FRENCH

Ok I'll get out of rage mode and I'll tell you what happened. I crammed 6 cities onto that really tiny island that you start on, and then tried to expand to teh notheast. The Sioux and English were at war. I created an alliance with the English and set war with the Sioux and didn't try(I only attacked them with two warriors overall. I got into war with the English which caused them to ally with the Sioux(I created oen city in teh Northwest corner of the continent. At that time the English only had one continent that I quickly took over. That city went between the Sioux and I many times until it eventually got destroyed. I started atacking the next closest city, right after the Sioux got gunpowder and I got Democracy. with musketeers and knights. Most of the attacks were with knights so it proved a waste of time. Then, out of nowhere the Japanese appeared on my island (the little one) and took all my cities because I was low on cash and didn't defend them in the beginning. I was down to one city and just gave up at that point.

wow tough luck, i could'nt get off the island but i had seven cities. i didn't do that well either, looking forward to gotm9

This is sort of what happened to me in Gotm6 (I got stuckon two northern islands and the huge celts stymied me) Don't be unhappy-you can learn more from a bad game than many good games. Gotm6 improved my playing greatly. Maybe you should play Gotm8 again (not to turn in of course ) and see how you could do differently. When on a small island getting off quickly is important for a momentum-type game such as I play; isolationism/OCC can work alone, but it can be a lot harder.

I finally got underway with GOTM 8, and I must admit things are not as much a romp as I had envisioned in my first warlord game. As usual, I got off to a slow start. I went Monarchy, Republic, and Democracy as soon as possible, and even managed two Oedo year research completions.

Since there are so many turns prior to 1 BC, I'll begin with how things are in 1200 BC this afternoon. Production has been very tight, and despite this being a Warlord game, I've had to skip lots of juicy wonders to concentrate on growth and science. At this point, even Isaac Newton is not built yet, though its under construction.

In general, expansion has been slow. Resources have been so tight that only Orleans is bigger than size 12, and no courthouses are built. I'm allied with the Sioux, and often gift them to keep the English at bay. I've been sneak-attacked several times, as usual. Barb trolling is fairly fruitful. I've had limited success with leapfrogging techs, but it has worked about 3 times.

In a recent thread about which civ to play i said i had played them all except the french. Now gotm8 has blown it, and it doesn't look as if i'm going to get hideously annilated.

Hm. I used to think i was good at this game...
No problems with gotm8 I just mean I'm staggered at the scores and massive civs you guys build so quickly. I'm off to read the strategy guides section to find out how you all do it.

Oh, 1650 AD or something, 80 odd cities, researching stealth. Crap huh? Going to try and totally rip up the terrain to get larger cities (new thing for me, I usually leave it alone)

Never had a city with more than 400 sci bottles - how the hell do you manage to run a Democracy with 0 luxuries is what i want to know... (or 0 tax for that matter - dont you need money or something?) plus a lot of other things.

/me boggles generally and shuffles off scratching his head

just noticed the new 'rate member' feature of this BB. What is this, HotorNot?

I'm in 700 bc. I've got about 50 cities only a few cities are bigger than size 12. I've got a few wonders but I don't have time for them,

Well.... Maybe lazy little me can finish on time this month...

I've never really played a game on warlord. I made a LOT of stupid mistakes, but at least I got off that island.
Those Japanese are a riot! I take one of their cities and their sending wave after wave after wave of dragoons and cannons only to be wiped out by one or two of my dragoons and cannons. Tsk tsk.

I'll admit it. I got a DESPICABLE score. People who were destroyed by other Civs got higher scores than me and I went to RETIREMENT!!! *wacks head on table repeatedly*
