GOTM and CIV:Warlords

Cool down, guys, we will not start playing WOTMs on the day Warlords is released!

Just for starters, there are no systems in place today to handle submissions, process Warlords, saved games, work out the results, or present Rankings, Pantheons ......

The notice at the top of the pages I read says 10 days to release. Who's even seen it yet?

We wouldn't want logic to get in the way of a desire to play, would we?? :mischief:

sweet...I think Warlords might make me more warlike...I'm very interested in this vassal state thing. :)

That's one reason why I'm still agonizing over whether I do want to buy it when it's out. I like some of the features in it ... but ... to me, my biggest complaint about Civ is that it's already biased too heavily towards warmongering. And then they go and release a pack that - ummm - emphasizes warmongering more. (And despite the claims that you don't need to go to war to get a vassal state, does anyone believe you'll be able to pursuade an AI to be your vassal if you don't have a very big army, even if it's confined to barracks?)

I probably will end up buying it out of curiosity though :(

Being builder by soul I pretty much think the same and I will buy it besides curiosity also to be able to participate in WOTM :)

heh, three builders in a row buying warlords...I really doubt I'll be more warlike with it, but I'm definitely gonna enjoy the new civs, leaders, and playing more than one GOTM each month :)

Yeah, yeah, yeah

I can live without it, but I was just pointing out that it would be a bit harsh to make it compulsory for GOTMs only a month or two after Mac users make it to vanilla Civ4.

Oh, don't get me wrong -- I totally agree that GOTM shouldn't go all-Warlords (easy enough for me to say since I'm not on staff, so whether you guys run 1 game or 100 doesn't impact my workload  )

Serious question, though -- I thought that nowadays, Macs could emulate PCs. Can't you guys buy Civ4 for Wintel and run it in emulation mode?

The only software PC emulators available are incapable of supporting the level of 3D graphics hardware acceleration that's required for Civ4.

You can reboot the most recent Macs - Intel-based ones bought since January - into Windows. But you have to buy and run Windows  That's not what we bought Macs for! And any Mac older than 7 months doesn't even have that option.

It's a good idea to wait with the first "WOTM" until September, some people also can't get the game as easily.
I'll be buying it the very first day I can (being the day after tomorrow :o)

I already ordered (and paid), but here in Italy it will be avaible from 28th July

If this would be correct i'll get it about August 3rd or some, hopefully

Let's hope the engine is the same for Civ4 1.61

Does anyone know how we'll be able to play both WOTM & GOTM? Will a Warlords install have the option to play under the original (P1.61) CIV rules or will we need to have two separate installs?

Not that I'm going to have time to play two games in one month, but the ability to swap between different codes in different months would be nice.

I have it on good authority that the Warlords expansion adds a new .exe and separate directories, and will not in any way prevent you from playing your existing Civ4 1.61 installation.

Excellent. Time for a visit to Amazon :D

Any chance that one of the WOTMs would be based on one of the Warlords mods? Perhaps only the Barbarians scenario is applicable since it's the one that can be played on a randomly generated map... It might not work too many times, but I liked the change of pace playing barbarians and it would be fun to see how others tackled the experience.

I think the more traditional game would work better. Warlords is a lot of fun to play it the normal way.
