I don't think I have played as Korea before but this strikes me as being more than a bit naff. If I'm using some sort of artillery stack in a game - I'm pretty much guaranteed to have a brain fart that will lead to my stack being captured at some point - seeing 20-30 Hwachas go up in smoke would be more than a little annoying

I'm not crazy enough to play a OCC on emperor. Or am I? It would be much faster... Must think about it. Although it's total suicide, as I've never played a winning OCC...
And I've only tried on Warlord... Maybe I'm crazy enough. Maybe I shouldn't. I'll be shot into pieces anyway. Emperor! I must be mad... Even on conquest its total suicide...

That quick settler factory looks interesting, but I don't know if I'll have the time to finish the game if I take that long to micromanage. After a few months out of the GOTM, I'll probably get squashed by a Predator Emperor game, but I will finish this month.
I probably won't do RCP, as I haven't played since the 'good old days' of the QSC pre-RCP and I'd probably botch it... after looking at the games played in the past few months, I agree with the 'challenging terrain' prediction.

Small error for mac players ? The Mac text file refers to ...GOTM23_open_v129.zip etc not GOTM24.
No problems, just change 3 to 4 in text and paste into your browser
The Mac.1 file also included a .dat & .exe file neither of which are relevant to the mac I think.

The announcement on the CFC home page lists the preset rivals as 11 but the home page for Gotm 24 lists the preset rivals as 10. What is the correct number of preset rivals? Once I load and start the game I can check the F10 key to find out who my rivals are but not every player will do that.

There is a link to look at spaceship progress. You need a spy to actually see any progress but that link will tell you who your rivals are.

Even though you are having a problem and need my help you should not feel comfortable just totally ignoring my requests to handle these issues in a way that lets us solve the problem without disrupting the overall game progress.
I know that you understand what I mean when I say that You may not participate in THIS discussion thread in any way after you have opened the game and begun to play.
Is this a clear enough instruction and do you have the ability to PM me as requested?

I've just been playing GOTM 24 up till around 1000BC and for those players who may be daunted by the the add-ons you need to download - don't be 
. An impressive amount of work has went into this particular GOTM and you'll have a lot of fun not only playing but checking out all the new stuff as well.

Thanks for making the effort to play the game and thanks for acknowledging the effort that goes into buiding games of this scale on a monthly basis.
I do want to discourage all of us for making any posts in this pregame discussion thread once you have opened the game and begun to play. Just on general prinicples, post here after you begin to play violates the rules and invites problems that could be taking away precious resources from other things you would really rather have us doing, like working on the Game 6-2 Persia or prepaparing Gotm25-Mongols for you.

I'm new here, and I would like to try this GOTM24. Reading the game announcement, I decided I should have the total package. But whenever I try to download it (and I have tried at many different hours), I always get:
The requested URL /games/saves/gotm24_v129_full_setup.exe was not found on this server.
I know it says that "The Web Servers may not this file available to you during peak traffic times." So maybe my question is, if the link is indeed valid, when are "not peak traffic times"?

The link appears broken to me too.
I suggest that you try to:
1. Wait a bit -Cracker is normally so efficient that you'll find it fixed before you have the chance to do anything else
2. If you can't resist, try to PM him (again, he might have already fixed the problem -if any- before he reads your message)
3. If you *really* can't resist, try downloading the add-on package for 24, 23 and backwards until you get a "full" one.
Have fun playing!

The full download pack is still getting bungled by the server. What is happening is that our file server is sometimes truncating or chopping of the end of the download pack during the upload cycle.
Because they are precompiled in the autoinstaller I have not yet succeeded in breaking them up into pieces and the putting them back together into one package for your convenience (still working on it)
Hopefully I will have it fixed shortly.
(just a side note for those of focus on the issue of downloads, try uploading and then re-downloading an 18MB file 15 or 20 times just to make sure you can fix a problem, now that's fun, yeehaw!!)

handy900@ If you are in the latest patch of PTW you can irrigate through hills. But Cracker has change the map so it doesn't matter (a new river now exists to supply instant irrigateability to the SW plains.

Yes, simulation runs and indeed it is possible to get the 4-turn settler fac up by 2950BC, with the first settler coming out by 2800BC. This includes the changing of wool to a cattle according to the new map by cracker and without touching the wheat.And the shields generated thru this period are enough to build at least 3 warriors still. Now it is time to really play it and enjoy the surprises cracker has put into this game.
Where do you get the pottery from? In all my test games on a different map with cattle substituded for wool I have to get pottery from a rival and sometimes that takes a while. In my test games I get the Mongols, Indians, Japanese and Chinese most of the time. The Mongols start with pottery but you have to find them first.
