I have played till 960 now. SETI and Hoover dam are built, Apollo will be in 990. Future Techs have already started. Launching before 1000 is obviously out of the question.

War with Romans is raging. They are down to a few cities and still active in stealing techs! Japanese are down to 1 city. They only ever built 3 and lost one to Romans and another to me! Persians never made more than 2. The others have 3-6 cities each.

"Production: 1071MT" Wow! You must have some big cities. I guess you can launch a pretty decent ship in 3-4 turns if you aren't too distracted by wars and scores and such.

I'm sorry I had some problem to send some message. . It's 2 complete messages it refused to send. I log in. After I submitted the message they say that I'm not logged and it doesn't send it.

The way I play I place most of my cities to have little if any overlap and develop them fully. I used to do that with all cities, but recently I have been trying to use some helper cities which do not get fully developed. In this game I had only one such city in the main part of the game. I obviously need improvement in that department!

With offshore platforms, factories, and Hoover dam things add up. But it takes a long time to get there.

I launched a full space ship in 1150. Earlier would have been possible but I would have had to sacrifice too many other things. Still, this is the earliest launch for me ever.

The war heated up near the end but my main preoccupation was, as you put it, score. I ended up destroying both Romans and Japanese. I also took Berlin and Athens.

I will write more messages this time. Firstly, I finished it Saturday with a 5 years spaceship with 10,000 people. It's not my first gotm I also played the gotm 60 and the gotm61 and I didn't complte gotm 62. I switched to Monarchy and a little bit later in Republic in appoximatively 200 BC.

I discovered gunpowder and Steam engine and I switched to Monarchy in approximatively 860 AD. I bribed many cities with ironclads and musketeers. In 1200, I had approximatively 35 cities and I switched to Republic and I had difficulty to make a 1 turn revolution. I began to concentrate more on economy and science. I didn't use luxuries especially because I had the Michelangelo's Chapel.

My science rate was generally up to 80 %. I built many temples and libraries. I switched to Democracy in approximatively 1460 AD and it resolved all my corruption problems with my far cities. My science was generally up to 90% and I found a technology each 3-4 turns. I also built Universities and Highways.

I finally built seti progam and discovered a technology each 1 or 2 turns with a science of 1500. In 1750, I began the spaceship and I discovered each spaceship technologies in 1760. I launched in 1780 and my population changed from 18 to 29 million people at the end with celebrations with 47 cities.

I just picked a pseudo-random thread to see what a recent GOTM was like, and it is very nice to read how a game developed. In 5 minutes, you can sort of do a "high speed" replay by reading it. The mind fills in the "blanks" drawing from experience. If I were the program manager for Civ 2 & it were redone today, I'd require a "replay" function, complete with running units tallies, fast foward/rewind, etc. so people could watch it. But a good log is very nice. In the future, I hope to eventually read all GOTM threads. :)

Nice game logs, Ali Ardavan.
Thank you. Praise is always delightful, from a master even more so.

I could not agree more. One of my biggest disappointments going from Civ1 to Civ2 was the discontiuation of the quick-replay-at-the-end feature.

One of the things I have been thinking about recently is to develop some standards for a log and present them to the community. If there is enough interest may be we can start a thread on that in general discussions.

That's a great idea! Maybe a standard Civ 2 notation, and format for readability, game turn number, periodic demographics/summary, units count, and key science mileposts (e.g., like Invention/Navigation, Sanitation, Corporation, Refrigeration, Flight, etc.).

Would you like to start the thread? I'll add to it when you do. :goodjob:

I agree. It's a great idea. This way we can even learn more of each others games.
