Goz7 - The Squeeze Rematch

Gozpel is on indefinite skip. He can't even get to the forums.
Please read part of the PM I got below:

I have serious problems with my computer and can't play civ. I start a game and after 2-3 minutes it starts to get slow and after 5 it almost comes to a standstill.

Can you please go to my games (the goz ones) and notify the teams of my absence until I can get this fixed? And also mention it in your games where I participate, so players can spread the word to other games where I play.

I got it, but have several games on my plate. I will post if things look too much. My hope is to play this Friday night.

Would a swap help?

Keeping this from Page 2.

Bugsy seems to be missing. Perhaps he is busy. Should I play? The only problem would be is if Bugsy has already played some turns. I wouldn't want to play over things he has done.

Well I am tired tonight anyway. Tell me if you all want me to take it tomorrow night. [Edit: unless of course he posts. I didn't try a PM. ]

Sorry, gents. I was very busy. I did play the first three turns, but the log is now deleted and only Greebley's game will stand.

Preturn: Move some of the troops back from the Saltpeter isle (armies and artillery/cannon).

IBT: Some Egyptian boats show up.

1655 AD: Bombard and kill a stack of 5 Tanks without loss. Partially bombard a second stack. In attacking 2 of the tanks of our armies are red-lined (vs a 2 hp and 3 hp tank) - one survives with a single hp.

This leaves 2 unattacked and one just bombarded. Behind it is a stack of 4 infantry, 3 Mechs, and 15 Tanks. We have lots of artillery type units so I have some hope we can hold of the hordes. Not going to be able to advance yet of course.

---------------------------

Looking over our empire, it doesn't look like we have switched to war mode yet. We are still building Cathedrals for example. We are going to need military to handle Egypt. I will be very lucky if I don't lose some towns.

Also the towns builds have not been updated after we get RP. We have towns with one shield that can support 3 civil engineers and get 7 shields instead of 1. Finally, we seem to have a great shortage of Courthouses even in cities where it would help.

So all builds are switched to military builds for higher shield towns.

Towns with only 1 shield are building courthouses or harbors where I think it will do any good ( totally useless towns I left on Settlers or Artillery in 80 turns that can be rushed at some point if we choose.).

Also I wake up the workers since we are using unmined mountains. These towns are corrupt, but with lots of mountains and a courthouse they will actually be able to produce some shields.

A very few towns do stay on temples, but that is the only culture. Unfortunately, we are too far behind to handle this via building culture.

---------------------------------

Rush the Harbor to get the Salt so we can build Cavalry (which can attack and get away again).

IBT: Our infantry actually win 2 out of 3 times.

1660 AD: Decide to make peace with Netherlands. I take their 218 gold.
I trade Oil for Dyes. They are not at war with anyone so this seems relatively safe.
I don't like doing it, but I upgrade some Muskets to Infantry. I hate to slow science, but they are likely to be necessary.
Kill 6 tanks.

IBT: Well that was a tense turn. A large number of bombers bombed our city first so the infantry were no longer on top. All the tanks in the area attacked them. We had Pikes winning against injured tanks A good bit of our Artillery was in the city too.
We had a 4 hp MDI army, 2 1 hp pikes, and a 1 hp Cav survive (all which won vs an attacking tanks - killed 6 or 7 total).

1665 AD: Most of the Tanks and Mechs are injured and this turn I can bring them down to 1 hp (10 Tanks + 2 Mech Inf). 4 Infantry have 1 or 2 hp after bombardment.
Ist army kills 3 tanks, Elite Cavalry wins and gets a Leader = Infantry Army, 4 more tanks with a Cav army, kill 1 tank with the Infantry Army.

IBT: Ouch the Bombers can reach our Capitol. We get bombed a lot by both boats and Bombers. A Volcano goes off - Ebla built next to it survives.

1670 AD: Kill 3 Mech Inf and 6 Tanks without loss. Two 2-hp tanks can reach our cities.
Egypt has dropped from 43 to 21 tanks. The big rush seems to be slowing down.

IBT: Bombardment knocks 2 Infantry to 2 hp. We lose both infantry to the 2-hp tanks. We now see 9 Mech inf, 3 Tanks and a TOW coming at us.

1675 AD: We kill 1 Mech Inf and 4 tanks that are in range.
We steal Combustion successfully
I trade Combustion for Scientific Method from the Mayans.
I think I will stop after 5 turns. They can be long turns.

Notes:
We have survived the initial rush of troops. The next step is to take out the cities near our core to destroy the Bombers and Boats. It still may be some turns as the Mech Inf charge us.

I feel we should stay at war. The biggest advantage is that if they are mobilized then they can't build Apollo. Also I would like to do real damage to them before we quit. We have level 1 war weariness which we can handle with only a few towns needing specialists at 0% tax.

UN is a risk. They are at peace with the other civs. Do we want to do anything about this? Problem is that allying will probably kill the other civ. Also if they are not at war with other civs and we don't make peace, they cannot start Apollo. Maybe we should give the small civs gifts?

Only Egypt has Atomic Theory right now so all other civs are at least 2 techs from the Modern Era.

Bombers will bomb your healing armies That is why they are healing in Izibia. It is out of reach of the bombers. The capitol is within reach. Nearly lost an army that way.

I made no progress and Egypt made no progress so no pic.

Edit:
Almost forgot. There is a Mech on the Saltpeter Isle. We can get units onto the island and attack next turn.

Bugsy is looking really busy. He had to be skipped in the game he mentions above. I think we should move on to the next player. I wish he would warn us that he needed a skip, but it looks that is the case. Maybe he didn't have computer access? Ah well. In any case, I would go ahead and play Lee.

I have gotten to 1685 AD. The incense was bombed out and ww is no longer manageable. The question is to go Communism or Monarchy to fight this war. I can get Commie from the Maya by including iron. I will wait until tomorrow for comments. My gut feeling says Commie for the better spies. We really have no use for cash rush at this point.

I put in my vote for Communism two pages ago. And I think the three of us constitute a majority, if not the whole team. I haven't seen Kaiser_Berger around for the last couple of days.
