Goz8 - Silence is Golden

@grahamiam
go for it, you can raze them easily :)

Preflight check: aw, crap. Not the handoff, but the situation. Why are we building banks if we are tactless? Shouldn’t they be uni’s? And why aren’t we doing any of our own research? Can’t trade and everyone’s been quite, so we gotta pull ourselves up.
Switch the banks in Ur and Lagash and Ur to Uni’s.
Leave research off so we have cash when we make peace in a turn or 2.
Move the army up to support.

IBT: Ottomans come at us, even dropping off a marine Sip; Babylon building Shakespears, and Smith’s.

T1: 960AD Kill a Sip near Eulbar.
@ Kutilla: Bombard surrounding Sips and rifles. AC Army kills Sip (12/15); AC Army kills Sip (8/15); elite horse kills Sip after it’s redlined by various arty (5/5)
Kill another Sip near Nagsu with the Other AC Army; Use same army to kill a rifle outside Susa (10/17)

IBT: lose an elite horse to a Sip and a galley to a privateer.

T2: 970AD Other AC Army kills another Sip that landed near Susa. Kill another near Kutilla with an elite AC but no luck.

IBT: Lose a LB but kill a Sip in defense.

T3: 980AD Lose 1 LB in killing a redlined Sip near Eulbar. 1st AC Army heads N on a pillaging mission.

IBT: due to a brain fart, I left a bunch of workers exposed. However, thanks to the AI’s brainfart (it moved them into neutral territory, next to one of our EW’s) we’ll get them back.
LB defends against redlined Sip.

T4: 990AD Well, here’s a cheery sight
Goz6-990AD.jpg

Near Nagsu: Other AC army kills ¾ rifle (8/17); Other AC Army kills Sip (5/17)

IBT: Russia demands TM and 62g, tell her to eat more fried chicken, she declares. Defend against 2 Sips.

T5: 1000AD Kill a redlined rifle near Susa. Rush walls in Katulla as the Sips like to come over the mountain range now that the roads are pillaged.

IBT: Korean come to us and offer PP for 500g. I renegociate for Astronomy, paying 763g and 15gpt
Lose an AC at Katulla to a Sip
Vikings complete Shake’s
Russians are building US.

T6: 1010AD This is getting ridiculous, with the Otto’s never wanting to talk and infantry on the way. So I read the thread and noticed that they contacted theRat on his turn (year 690AD), so I dial them up and get Chemistry and Navigation and 30g.
Rush a Library in Susa for 44g.
Set research for Physics (+12gpt, 15turns)

IBT: Ottomans building US

T7: 1020AD Moving to cover our coasts from Russian landings.

IBT: on cue, Russia lands a Cossack near an undefended East Coast town.

T8: 1030AD Other AC army kills the Cossack (14/17)

T9: 1040AD Found Anshan.

Vikings building ToE.

T10: 1050AD Move stuff around.

Maybe we should revolt to Republic or something, hoping that the rest of the world becomes Facist and we eventually catch up. Otherwise, we are severely limited in our options atm.

So I read the thread and noticed that they contacted theRat on his turn (year 690AD), so I dial them up and get Chemistry and Navigation and 30g.
you mean that is allowed? they have infantry, oh my

Hey? We can't dial up anyone and TheRat declined the peaceoffer (which I also would've done at that stage) , so we have to wait until they are willing to speak to us again. It simply takes time to get to the second talk and obviously it takes longer than I ever seen before.

Shouldn’t they be uni’s?

No, banks first, then unis. Economy is more important than self-research and banks in our best cities will improve both.

Korean come to us and offer PP for 500g. I renegociate for Astronomy, paying 763g and 15gpt

:D "pats self on the head" That answers your question:

And why aren’t we doing any of our own research?

This should be replayed from 1010AD, infantries or not.

Sorry grahamiam :banana:

@gozpel
absolutely agree that we should replay from the peace deal onwards. this is pretty different from Sir Bugs 1st dial up, where we were about to get dialled up.
This time, when they asked us for peace, we were about 5 turns into war and I was pretty certain we could achieve much more (which we initially did). It all changed once they got sipahis, but that does not chnage the fact we are silent guys.

ok, i replay tonight from 1010AD :ar15: :banana: :lol:

it took, what, 150 turns for the 1st offer? buying techs in a tactless game seems contridictory :crazyeye: once we have the ability to steal, then yes, i agree, save the money, but right now, we need to get to the IA asap, at least before someone finishes Hoovers or Seti . if we research chems, maybe we can get astro and physics when the ottomans finally come to the table. then we're only ToG & mag from the IA and our free tech (pray for steam :D ). beeline for espionage via industrialization and we might have a chance. commie for vetern spies will help as well (my teamates in 3grams showed me the value in that ;) )
maybe i'm all wet as usual, but saving all our money seems pointless. we'll probably have enough cash on hand to temp the AI every 15 to 20 turns while we can probably research the same techs in less time.

Ok, try the research then, too bad I already wasted half of my turns to gather money. Well, not totally wasted as we managed to buy a tech.

Yes, we need to get to the IA before someone completes SETI! :lol:

T6: 1010AD Starting over.
Army pillages towards Istanbul.
Research on, Chems in 9 @ -30gpt.

IBT: defend against 1 healthy and 1 redlined sip, lose an EW to a Sip. All this at Katulla

Babylon is building Smiths,

T7: 1020AD Pillage some more, kill a Sip near Eulbar. Other Army Kills a redlined sip on the marsh.

IBT: Sip kills elite AC @ Katulla.

T8: 1030AD @ Katulla: cats and trebs go 1 for 11 on an infantry on the open grass.
Pillaging army ends up on the Ottoman salt.

IBT: AC @ Katulla defends against ¾ infantry.
In their delirium, the people build 4 phallic symbols in front of the palace.

T9: 1040AD Bombard Sip near Eulbar to 2/4, then kill it with a LB (2/4). A galleon + escort entered Mugla on the IBT so more units will come out of there in drips.
LB kills redlined Sip on mountain next to Katulla. There’s 3 Sips on the opposing mountains.
Pillaging army removes the salt and is 2 tiles from isolating the Ottoman capitol.

IBT: @ Katulla: Lose a LB on Mountain, AC and EW in town, kill 1 sip.
Vikings building ToE.

T10: 1050AD Redline 3 Sip’s near Katulla. Army kills 1 (17/17) and jumps into town; Horseman from Susa kills one on the mountain (3/4)
Finish pillaging around the Ottoman Capitol, so her rep is ruined (hopefully).

trying an end around?
Goz8-1050AD-1.jpg

I'm up. I have it. Shall we press on this war until the Ottos are history?

Shall we press on this war until the Ottos are history?
:lol: that's what I like to hear, optimistic.
btw I checked the save and with proper MM and scientists we can really cut down research time. we need to have nationalism to finally give us some proper defense, we still rely on our 2defense EW :crazyeye:

I'll need the full 72 for this. We had more snow and I spent way too much time shoveling today. How long until spring?

Edit - I'm having trouble with the save.

Pre-flight – switch a clown to an IRS agent.

IBT – They are not going to believe this, so I take a picture.
Goz8_-_1050_Peace1.jpg

I get Navigation, Chemistry, the city of Mugla, and 1G out of Osman.
Sweet Salmon: LB=>bank
Erech: bank=>settler
Alesund: court=>market

Early – Found Anshan aggressively. Fire most of the IRS agents and hire beakerheads.
Promised Land: Market =>settler
Susa: library => barracks
Bad-tib, Agade: Bank=>settler
Lagash: univ=>HE
Umma: LB=>bank
Ottos start ToE

Middle – Spend 148G rushing Anshan’s library. Chopping jungle.
Ur: bank=>horse=>horse
Bad-Tib, Agade: settler=>univ.
Kutallu: Endiku=>library
Eulbar: Endiku=>barracks
Odense, Isin, Der: bank=>univ
Anshan: library=>barracks
Promised Land: settler=>univ.
Kissura: harbor=>court

Late – Metallurgy=>Physics
Nagsu: Endiku=>aqueduct
Ur: horse=>LB
Tutub: library=>court
Babs complete US, Vikings complete Smith’s.

After Action – By using beakerheads we can take five turns off of Physics. Recommend settling in the northeast as shown. Hurry the libraries as soon as possible to expand our lands. There is a settler to the northwest that should settle in place. Congratulations to everyone on the team (except me) for a very nicely executed war.

got it, will settle the way it is proposed.

a few questions though. what do we do next? are we going after another Civ? how do we catch and keep up with AI, we can't even railroad since we have no iron. we are still stuck with those lousy units. I wonder how long it will take for them to demand things again.
are we still at war with Russia?

save

Pre-Turn MM and get research to 7 turns

IT Babs finish ToE :cry:

1 found Babil and Abisala

4 rush library in Kutallu

6-7 Physics comes in

7 ToG in 6 turns

A pretty boring set of turns. I think once we have nationalism and at least some usful defence, we should try and attack Ottoman again and get salt and iron. this lack of resources has killed us here. I did not settle the aggressive spot next to Vikings, no need to get them to fight us with weak defence we have.

these are good questions and we should discuss.
1. war: grabbing the iron should be the priority. every unit we build should be aimed at that. atm, we don't produce anything useful for attacking other than LB's, and only our armies could dent the otto's. we probably need to max out on treb's for the time being, then switch over to rifles once nationalism comes in. other than that, we need to stack and secure our new holdings in the north so we don't crumble quickly if sip's get antsy.

2. research: imho, we need to beeline for espionage and communism. with vet spies, we should be fairly successful at stealing and we should be able to get to infantry and arty(there's got to be a rubber source in all those jungle tiles we took over). in order to get there, we need steam, industrialization, nationalism, espionage, and communism. if we can grab the iron, we should prebuild factories.

those are near to mid-term goals. as far as how we're going to pull this out, i haven't a clue. but we gotta be like Ali, and play a little rope-a-dope till we get our opportunity. hell, we've survived this long with AA units, i think that's an accomplishment in of itself :)

@grahamiam

your plan sounds good, if only we get there. we are stuck in monarchy and I don't know whether we could afford republic with the amount of units we have. In 3 turns we get ToG and once magnetism is in, let's just hope we draw nationalism.
the AI is so so quiet all times, deals are impossible. I was thinking of an exploit, but thought of it as too cheesy (send army into viking or Ottoman territory, then start to deal once they demand us to leave) since that's not in the spirit of the game, I did not do it.
I also really discourage to settle aggressive against others than Ottoman. I was building EW, and LB's. quite a few cities got nothing useful to build at the moment.
