Goz8 - Silence is Golden

i wouldn't bother with republic if we all agree with commie. for commie, we'll need to build courts in those cities. otherwise, they could be set to wealth, irrigated, and excess citizens set to scientists.
 
I think the goals are all good. Commie should also work out well for us, I've had nothing but good experiences with it in Conquests. I've got it.
 
Commie would help I think. Greater production and cash for steals. We need to catch up in tech.
 
Preturn- Fire some scientists near our core and hire some in the boondocks to keep ToG still in three.

I decide to go settle the spot by the Vike/Ottoman border. It is far enough away that it won't cause war.

Not much.

IT- ToG comes in, set to Magnetism, due in 6.

T3 1265

I play with our cities and get us down to Magnetism in 5 turns. However, we run a large deficit because of this, so I then go through and hire enough tax collectors to handle it.

Not much.

IT- Hammurabi comes demanding our ivory. I send his envoy back to Babylon with an elephant tusk shoved where the sun doesn't shine. Apparently he has heard of our great crusade against the Ottomans, as he finds humor in the comment and backs down.

T5 1275

Nothing of much interest.

IT- zzz

T6 1280

Again nothing of interest.

IT- The Russian ships that had been fragging our coastal cities withdraw.

T7 1285

Nothing much. Magnetism due next turn. Time to pray for Nationalism. Hopefully I'll get a get a chance to go to the big picture screen and select it.

IT- Vikes try to offer us territory maps, but I decline. I do notice that have over 13,000g in the kitty :eek:

We go Industrial, and I do get to pick our tech. We can finally build units stronger than longbows :lol:

T8 1290

We start research on Communism at 40%. With scientistss I get it down to 10 turns.

IT- zzz

Not much.

IT- A bunch of Ottoman workers are moving through our lands.

T10 1300

Not much new.


Summary

Things still look a bit bleak, but actually being in the same age as the AI is a nice change. Once we have a few rifles, we should be able to cause some damage, as we have a large number of trbs, and a bunch of cats that can be upgraded. We're going to have to pound and steal our way to victory in this one. After espionage, I'm not sure if we'll ever be wanting to research again.

Pre-turn - Not much, swap a few scientists to taxmen and policemen, Commie still in 8t.

Early - Vikings are building Hoovers.
Russian galleon shows up.
Fiddle around with specialists.

Middle - Ottomans wants MPP, no trades possible and they would only pay 40g for our luxes.

Russia dare to land a reg cossack and LB kills him without breaking sweat. But I'm glad they only dropped off one unit.

5-6 russian frigates do their senseless bombardment. I retaliate by shooting off one hp of one of the ships, the people rejoice.

1340AD - We learn Communism and I revolt immediately, draw 8 turns. I will play through this anarchy and will alternate between rioting cities to avoid pop-loss. A few losses will happen though. We have plenty of taxmen hired.

1370AD - This game sucks, Korea contact us but we can't buy anything. Medicine was only close with everything we got.

Late - 1375AD - We finally become commies and Vikings starts SETI :lol:

We lost 3 pop and gained 3 by growth, so I call it a tie.

I turned off research for now, next player can choose what to do, and also play a few extra turns (or less) to even the dates. With no science we do 271gpt and have 488g in the kitty.

Not much for us to do here but wait for the fireworks to begin. Silly variant, it's way to hard on Deity, but I had to try it. With some better luck with resources, it could be a different story. But here we have nothing but ponies and some luxes noone wanted.

It was something that hadn't been tried, so we went for it. Let's play it out. Odder things have happened.
 
I actually played another golden silence game alone on demigod and I won. Played sumeria, but had more luck with resources, that's all that matters in my mind.
kept the AI's at war most of the times especially at the latter stage of the game. it's easier than AW since you can get peace at times, which is essential.
I looked at the save and we do have some democracies here, no wonder they run away, but we can't declare. I wonder how successful a steal would be with those governments?

Anyway, I would love to give this another try, maybe on demigod. maybe another Civ with an strong early UU. Anyone of you people game enough for this challenge?

great news, could we somehow send a unit to Ottoamn land to get them to talk to us and get them involved in the war or is this exploitative?
 
That may not be a bad idea. We're only in one war. Somewhere around 1455 or so Cathy offered us peace for 40G. I took it. I also bought Mil Tradition from her while we were talking.
 
Pre-flight – The Vikings have TOW infantry. We’re toast boys and girls. One turn from industrialization, then we can go for espionage. It looks like just the Vikings and the Babylonians are in the Modern age. Looks like most of Korea is learning to speak Russian.

Early - A Cossack is dropped off. Bombard and kill the Russian.
Industrialization=>Espionage (due in five.) I see we already have a pre-build going for the CIA HQ.
Ottomans build the Hoover Dam.

IBT – The Vikings start acting funny, and then I find out why.

Yes, boys and girls, that sound you hear is our death knell.
The Vikings also start the UN.
1445 – I start throwing units towards the northeast.
IBT – Since we now have a fearsome AC army in our far NE city, the Vikings bypass it and begin attacking Apisala. It holds. We get this notice.

Then our military plans were stolen.
1450 – Tutub looks to be in trouble. I throw an AC in the direct path to the city. Science down 20%.

IBT – Cathy comes calling and wants 40G from us for peace. Fine. I also purchase Mil Tradion for Ivory, Dyes, WM & 113G.
Tutub loses three defenders, but stands. Our lines are being infiltrated by Vikings.
Espionage=>Corp (Science to minimum)
We have a riot in Erech, probably loss of war happies. I change our pre-build over to the CIA.
Production of our CIA has been sabotaged.

1455 – Kill most of the red-lined cavs.

IBT – Kill four of five attackers at Susa, lose an AC. Get another riot, probably loss of an MP. I have to remember we’re in communism.

1460 – Trebs don’t make a dent on TOW.

1465 – Bombard then kill two TOW.

I’m going to stop here. These last four turns took a long time. You need to check F1 after every turn in commie. Something I keep forgetting. The Vikings are using the ountains to the north for cover.

before I play I want to know whether it is ok to send a unit to ottoman land to get them to talk so we can get them to ally against Vikings
